Wheres the box-set?.......2007-03-07
X-men cartoons made in the 90's were superb in animation, sound & plot compared to the woefully inept x-men evolution series that followed it some years later. This particular 5-part story in Series 3 is one of the best story arcs of the 6 or so series they made.
However one of the reasons why x-men is so good is the continuing stories of character development that involve all of the x-men and their differing interactions. Therefore only having the opportunity to buy this one story arc on dvd just makes this a pointless buy. If a boxset was released, then you will begin to appreciate as I do how good this cartoon series is.
The Phoenix Saga.......2003-04-30
This is a brilliant DVD. It has on it the four episodes that show Jean Grey, a powerful mutant, being chosen as the host for the creature known as the phoenix. Cyclops is going out with Jean so this causes tension in the group. Brilliant.

"The Phoenix Saga" is the first DVD of the animated series...and what a great choice they've made! This DVD is a collection of the five-part series which tells the tragic story of the legendary Phoenix saving the universe from the evil Shi'ar emperor D'Ken. Unfortunately, the X-Men member Jean Grey is the Phoenix's host, which causes confusion among everyone, including her. In addition to this, Charles Xavier (Professor X) is psychically linked to D'Ken's sister, Llandra, bringing the battle to the planet earth. All this results into a war against good and evil that may cost the life of one of the X-Men. All that being said, the DVD looks great, of course. Since this was produced before Dolby Digital was commonplace, it is presented in two channel mode (stereo), but it does ok for Dolby Pro-Logic mode. The animation is a bit choppy in some places, but considering how fast they have to pump out cartoons, it's forgivable. One noticable difference is the changing of the voice-overs for some of the characters. The original cast seems to be intact, but the most obvious was that of Gladiator, the Defender of the Shi'ar throne. For those with copies of the original series on VHS, listen to the difference and you'll see what I mean. Otherwise, this is a must-have for the fans of the original animated series. Now if they'll only release, "The Dark Phoenix Saga"......

Phoenix Saga.......2006-05-01
Fans of the X-Men will be well aware that this storyline is the bases of the new film, X3-The Last Stand.
Undoubtedly the most popular and best storylines Marvel put together, this DVD is spread across 4 episodes telling the story of the Phoenix, guardian of the Emcron crystal and protector of planet earth.
With Jean Grey's battle to cope with the strains of being possesed by the Phoenix, can she contain it's dark side or will the Dark Phoenix be released to destroy the planet?
A must watch for any X-Men fan and comic book fans alike, even if you've never seen the cartoon it's a great one to watch as it bares huge relevance to the the 3rd film in the series and will give you a good insight into what the story is based upon.
Excellent!

Entertainment-a-rooney.......2000-11-24
My daughter, who I'm sure is the fifth Tweenie, loves it nearly as much as me! There are the usual loads of fun, singing and dancing, and lots of party games to be played by everyone. It's great value as you get 2 titles on one disc, where as you would only get one per video. Even though my daughter had already seen some of it on television, she was glued to it and I got to watch it too.
