O Andromeda.......2007-07-29
There's only one reason I watch this film (or portions of it) again and again.
It's not the special effects of Harryhausen which are pretty variable in quality (my favorite is Medusa, my least favorite is that damn owl).
It's not the story which flows well enuf except for the tendency to draw out the special effects scenes (as with all Harryhausen films).
It's not the major British stars (eg, Olivier typecast as Zeus) languishing on Mt Olympus, drawing paychecks.
It's not the Americans Hamlin or Burgess, altho they do very well.
It's the heartbreakingly beautiful and talented Judi Bowker (as Andromeda) in one of her few film roles. She has a reasonable amount of screen time. And she was gorgeous in that ancient Greek costuming.
I give the movie 3 stars and add a 4th for Judi, but, really, there aren't enuf stars in the heavens...
ITS MULTI REGION!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-04-07
Ive seen folks on UK ebay selling region 2 (UK) dvds of clash of the titans for HIGH sums in auctions and when I asked them HOW as its never been officially released over here as region 2 they wouldnt answer or told me a pack of lies. The reason being that this USA release, although it says region 1 here AND on the packaging is in fact multiregion. I bought one and it plays fine on my region 2 player, thats probably why theres no mention of regions on the disk itself. So all you UK fans buy this bargain priced dvd until the UK one comes out in the distant future, put the ebay profiteers out of business, they dont want you knowing its multiregion!!! as is the monty python flying circus USA complete box
set!!!
EDIT: This film is now OFFICIALLY released over in the UK on region 2, so no need to buy the American one now, WHOOPPEE!!!
"Find and fulfill your destiny.".......2005-02-26
You can not go wrong with this movie. Of course the first thing that is of notice is the great Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion effects the Kraken and Medusa are unique. I have several other movies with his work.
Better actors could not be cast in the various roles; I have to mention a few, however this does not detract from the other performers. Maggie Smith is recognized from many BBC productions and fits the part of Thetis. Judi Bowker as Andromeda has to play a range of emotions and is beautiful enough to be a princess. Of course everyone recognizes Burgess Merideth; I remember him best as Commander Egan Powell, Intelligence Officer, in
"In Harm's Way" (1965). Who could show the authority that Zeus wields better than Laurence Olivier does.
Titans were around before Zeus's crowd so many people are not aware of their story.
This basic story is that the only daughter of Acrisius has given birth to a child out of wedlock and for this she must die. Danae and her young son, Perseus are placed in a wooden coffin and set adrift with the intent that the Sea will do the deed. Naturally as with all Greek plays this is spotted in time by Zeus who sets them safely on a foreign shore. This is the start of a cat and mouse power struggle among the gods and involves mankind with a beautiful Princess Andromeda, an amiable playwright Ammon, and many mythical creatures from the classics.
Clash Of The Titans.......2004-07-16
This is an old film, but has been one of my favirots for as long as I can remember. Its insiring and put learning about Greece Acient Greece in my mind since I watched this film. Truly an epic for its time, one which I can watch over and over again. Fantastic !!!!
Wondeful Story.......2004-07-14
Clash of the Titans is simply a classic. From the moment the Witches first mention the word 'Medusa', the atmosphere slowly turns sinister; a fantastic build up of tension to her petrifying introduction, the pivotal point of the film in my opinion. From then, the scene is flawless and the remainder leads onto a heroic ending. Whatever you do....... DON'T look her in the eye....

Utterly Utterly Brilliant.......2006-10-25
These animated dvds are educational without being at all boring. The fundamental principles of physics are taught in a way that even very little children find absorbing and understandable. My 3 and 5 year old boys can be monkeying around and being very hyper one minute, and then sit awestruck and very engrossed watching one of these DVD's.
My five year old really does absorb the scientific principles The Way Things Work aims to teach - I know this because he will apply some of them in his play with lego, traintrack building, and so on and also he will astound me by relaying a principle he has learnt in our casual conversations.
The DVD's are superbly animated, and not at all americanized or patronizing, I would say this double DVD set has appeal for all ages - even my wife and I like watching them. We also have the book, which is a really useful reference book for schooled or home-educated kids alike, and indeed for the whole family!
