The Best Oral Storytelling Teaching Resource I have seen..........2007-12-20
If you are a teacher of older primary school children get this...It is fantastic. We have been using this with year 5 children. The quality and richness of the language is ideal for this age and in class it provides a fantastic model of Oral Story Telling - I have not seen a better example than Michael Gambon in this role. The presentation of the stories is gripping and children soak up so many details. The episode of Theseus and the Minotaur ends with Gambon using the labyrinth as a metaphor for the history of myths and legends. Perfect. Make sure you know your copyrite rights as a teacher (UK Patent office gives good guidance), get a multi-region DVD player and then let your class be thrilled and inspired.
Perfect for kids and adults.......2006-01-24
It is good these series are finally out on DVD. they are simple yet interesting... perfect for both adults (will seem childish for some though!) and kids!
dissapointing.......2006-01-23
An eagerly awaited dvd which in my opinion was a let down.I love Jim Henson and adore the UK storyteller but this just wasn't the same with Michael Gambon as a Greek storyteller,Bring back john Hurt he was the best storyteller. The stories themselves were ok but some seemed a bit drawn out and definately foran older audience e.g my 3 yr old watches labyrinth and uk storyteller, but i wouldn't let her see this she'd have nightmares for a week! also its a usa region dvd so u need a region free dvd player or a pc to play it on.The best point of the dVd was the Dog, he was great funny witty amusing shame about the actors!
for your inner child!.......2004-11-27
Why do more people not remeber these series! They're fantastic! If you remember them from when you were a kid, watch them again, you wont be disapointed!
madginny.......2004-09-17

Rather daft indeed........2004-07-04
For all its nostalgic charm, Superted is quite dire. The gags are less than laughable and Superted is usually already in his "superhero" guise when he says "I'll say my secret magic word."
Most amusing of all is Superted's miraculously accurate foresight. No matter what the situation, Superted can't help but feel that something just isn't quite right. Perhaps he should see a doctor about his paranoia. What's more, no matter what kind of evil Superted and Spotty encounter, it's always assumed that Texas Pete is responsible. Sadly, he makes for a rather incompetent supervillain.
If you grew up in the 1980s, this is worth the price just to wallow in obsessive nostagia. Otherwise, give it a miss and check out much more amusing shows from the same era such as Rainbow and Button Moon.
not quite how I remembered it.......2004-05-10
I think that Superted had a winning formular for small kids, and I was one when this was on tele. So I loved it. The formular basically revolves around these simple things - 'Cosmic Dust', 'My Secret Special Word', 'Special Powers', 'Rocket Boots', and 'An Ordinary Teddy Bear'.
I mean, how could this fail? It's a kids fantasy!
The truth is that really this is a load of rubbish, with the thhinest of story lines ever. But if you are like me, it's still a great laugh. And you will enjoy it for totally the opposite reasons you liked it as a kid. It really is one of those things that is imbedded into your heart, it doesn't matter that it's actually rubbish.
So go on buy this, and have a laugh at yourself as I kid.
Nostalgia from the eighties........2004-03-16
You always seem to remember programmes from your childhood as something brilliant. Although in reality, you discover that they were actually really rubbish.
A pleasant surprise here then, because SuperTed is very good. Admittedly, it isn't as good as I remember, but there are memories to be had. That is all that is here, though. Children of the current generation may find the voice acting and unlikely stories to be a little tedious. But for those of you with fond memories, you'll find a few gems here.
Whilst it's nice to go through the episodes again, some things are immediately noticeable. There's only 7 episodes which accumulates to around an hour of viewing. It would have been nice to have all the episodes made on one disc rather than a best of. The price is cheap, but I would be willing to pay more if there was an increase in the number of episodes. No extras, promos or nostalgic documentaries, but you can't expect too much. Subtitles would have been nice, though.
To conclude; it's a good DVD, and at the price if you like the show then you should make the purchase. But it would have been much improved with a couple of extra episodes.

The Chuck Jones era of Tom & Jerry cartoons.......2007-08-05
The Tom And Jerry Classic Collection continues in chronological order; Volumes 1-4 had the Hanna-Barbera cartoons commissioned by Fred Quimby, while Volume 5 had the remains of the Hanna-Barbera era on Side 1, and the Gene Deitch era on Side 2.
Volume 6 contains all 34 Tom & Jerry cartoons from the Chuck Jones era. Censorship isn't an issue on this volume; if any cuts were made to these cartoons I didn't notice them. These are different to the Hanna-Barbera episodes of the '40s and '50s, with more of a Looney Tunes/Roadrunner feel to them. In general this volume isn't up to the standards of Volumes 1-4, but Chuck Jones's style will appeal to some and I think some of the cartoons are quite funny.
At any rate, I think these cartoons will appeal to most people more than those of the Gene Deitch era, which were the main cause of the low review scores Vol 5 received.
If you're a Tom and Jerry fan and you own the first four or five volumes, or you've seen Chuck's T & J efforts in the past and liked them, I consider Vol 6 a recommended purchase. Otherwise, you're probably better off sticking with the Hanna-Barbera episodes, which were the original and best.
