Amazon.co.uk Review
If you don't mind a heavy dose of schmaltz and sentiment, this romantic comedy has a gentle way of seducing you with its charms. While You Were Sleeping was the first starring role for Sandra Bullock after her blockbuster success in Speed. In a role that nicely emphasises her easygoing appeal, Bullock is the reason the movie works at all. She plays Lucy Eleanor Moderatz, a Chicago Transit tollbooth clerk who's hopelessly smitten with a daily commuter, Peter Callaghan (Peter Gallagher). She saves the object of her affection from certain death after he's mugged and falls onto the train tracks. While Peter is in a coma, she lets his family believe that she is his fiancée, and surprisingly finds herself drawn to his brother (Bill Pullman), for whom the attraction is definitely mutual. How Lucy gets out of this amorous predicament is what makes this pleasant movie less predictable than its familiar ingredients would initially indicate. It's feel-good fluff, with characters and performances that keep you smiling through the drippy plot mechanics. --Jeff ShannonCustomer Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Simple Men opens with small-time hood Bill (Robert Burke from RoboCop 3) asking a bound and blindfolded security guard if he can have the guard's Virgin Mary medallion; "Be good to her and she'll be good to you", says the guard. Immediately after, Bill is double-crossed by his girlfriend and his partner. From there, the plot goes off in a completely different direction: Bill and his younger brother Dennis (William Sage, High Art), a philosophy student, go off in search of their father, a former star shortstop who may have committed a bombing many years ago. Their only clue is a phone number on Long Island; they end up at a cafe run by Kate (Karen Sillas, Female Perversions), which is also the hang-out for Elina Loewensohn (Nadja) and Martin Donovan (Hollow Reed, The Opposite of Sex). Plot is never the point in Hal Hartley movies (Trust, Amateur, Henry Fool); it's just a clothesline on which to hang odd, quirky scenes--moments like Donovan and Sage trying to imitate Loewensohn's dance movements to a Sonic Youth song or a half-drunken conversation about pop music and self-exploitation. Hartley's deliberately stilted dialogue and stylised performances actually play better on video; the movie feels more intimate, making the humour more relaxed and fluid. Hartley is the kind of idiosyncratic filmmaker who provokes love-him-or-hate-him responses, but there's a deep sincerity to his artifices that goes beyond mere posing. Against all commercial wisdom, he's struggling to find his own cinematic poetry. Such an uncommon aspiration is worth checking out. --Bret FetzerCustomer Reviews:

Makes Your Flesh Creep!.......2005-07-11
Peter Cushing stars as Emmanuel Hilden, a scientist who thinks he has found the key to unlock the mysteries of evolution. This 'key' is an ancient skeleton that he found in some rock, which although looks human, is far bigger in every way. While washing the skeleton with water to clean it up, Hildren notices that on one of the fingers, skin and flesh have started to grow. Through tests, he reveals that this skeleton is basically pure evil, and also manages to make an inoculation against it.
Who better to test his new serum on than his daughter who he worries might develop some kind of mental disorder just like her mother. However, the serum has the opposite effect, making her go on a mad rampage, where she slits a guys throat with a broken bottle, and pushes another off a building. After being captured by the police, she is taken to the local asylum run by Hilden's half brother James, who recognises her immediately and brings her back home to try and blackmail Hilden into letting him in on his work.
Hilden refuses to be blackmailed however, and so James returns that same night to steal the skeleton. On the way home with it, James is caught in a thunderstorm that drenches the skeleton, and starts it producing flesh and skin, and basically brings it to life.
With Peter Cushing playing the role of Emmanuel Hilden the scientist studying human evolution, and Christopher Lee playing the role of James Hilden, his jealous half brother, this film really is a winner. Although Cushing is credited below Lee, he has a much more involved role in the film and should have been above really. Lorna Heilbron also does a good job in her role as Penelope Hildern, Emmanuel's daughter who he turns insane with his supposed cure for evil.
Overall, 'The Creeping Flesh' really is a good movie, starring the two legends of the Hammer Horror movies that were so poular during the 1970's. If you are a fan of either of them, Hammer Horror films, or just horror films in general, then this is the film for you.
