Even Max is dull in this........2007-06-02

This is a dull swashbuckler featuring a bland performance from leading man Ken Scott. The fights are poorly staged and the best bits are stockfootage from other films. The one star is for the excellent print and for an appearance by British film's forgotten hero Maxwell Reed who,unfortunately, fails to lift this out of the rut.

Product Description

This glorious sequel to 'Whisky Galore!' sees the islanders of Todday once more at odds with the authorities from the mainland! The very future of the idyllic Hebridean Island is threatened when the government decides that Todday would be the ideal place to build a giant missile base! Hugh Mander is sent from the mainland to compile a secret report on the island and its inhabitants. While there, he falls in love with Janet, the local schoolmistress, but he is soon exposed as a government spy! Hurt and humiliated, Janet now personally leads the islanders in a campaign to stop the missile base being built. If you enjoyed"Whisky Galore", then the odds are that you'll enjoy this pleasant little sequel. Based on another of Compton Mackenzie's books, it has the islanders resisting the Government's plans to build a rocket range on Todday.It's not in the same class as the original, but it's not bad, and it benefits from quite a few of the original cast reprising their roles (Gordon Jackson and Jean Cadell among them), and even an early appearance by a very young Ronnie Corbett! So, as long as you don't set your expectations too high,you'll probably find it good fun.
