Veggie Tastic!.......2005-12-30
Veggie Tales are a first class animated series explaining Bible Truths in a fun, easy to understand and engaging way. Humour is enjoyed by both Children and adults, and they are such fun to watch. We work with teenagers, who absolutely love it and sing along to Silly Songs with great Gusto.
The Entire series is a must for any video shelf.
only minus is the fact that they are (at the moment) only available in region 1 - so in the UK you need a multi-region DVD player to watch them - but well worth the cost!
The Hope of Easter Fully Explained.......2004-07-15
Ebenezer Nezzer has finally figured out his life's work. Misinterpreting his grandmother's last words, he decides to destroy the church and build an Easter theme park full of egg hunts and chocolate bunnies in its place to keep Easter, and Grandma's memory, alive all year long. Beside, church is just something that keeps people from buying his eggs on Easter morning.
But the night before Easter, he has a vision. A music box angel named Hope (voiced by Rebecca St. James) shows him Easter past, present, and future. Will it be enough to show him what his grandmother already knew?
This is a companion entry to THE STAR OF CHRISTMAS, using the same characters in the same rolls as before. I've been looking forward to this episode ever since it was announced, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. The story is fun and entertaining. While we see little of Bob and Larry, their sub-plot is hilarious. I especially love the scene with the seesaw. The story goes beyond the true meaning of Easter to touch on what that means in the lives of Christians, something I truly appreciated. At 49 minutes, this is longer then your average episode, but it never drags until after it's reached its explosive climax. Several new songs add greatly to the enjoyment. I especially loved their tribute to "The Music Man" and Rebecca St. James' song.
The DVD is exactly what we've come to expect from Big Idea. The main feature is presented in full frame, with audio in your choice of stereo or full surround. There's an audio commentary, behind the scenes features, and fun games and activities for the kids. They even have a featurette on how real stained glass is made since stained glass windows play such an important part of the film.
Easter specials are not nearly as plentiful as Christmas specials are. This is one that parents will snap up and kids will love. I know I'll be watching it every Easter for a long time to come.

treasure.......2007-11-22
i love this film, i found it in my dad's partner's movie stash a couple of years ago and it's always brought out around about christmas time along with 'it's a wonderful life'. the story is lovely, about an angel sent down to help david niven sort his life out, cary grant is as always charming, suave and sophisticated and everytime i watch any film of his i realise why i love him so and how much i wish i'd been alive seventy years ago to meet him.
Touched by an Angel - A Heart Warming Story .......2007-06-08
If you are looking for a movie to watch on Christmas day with your family, you must include this heart warming story about an angel who intervene the busy lives of an Episcopalian bishop, named Henry Brougham (David Niven) and his wife Julia (Loretta Young). This movie set in Yuletide sprit with bells ringing, choir singing, Christmas wreaths decorating the walls of churches, homes, shops and buildings, and streets and neighborhoods covered with fresh snow. During this time, an angel named Dudley (Cary Grant) enters the lives of the bishop and his wife as an office assistant. At the Victorian home of Bishop Henry not everything is going well. Years of neglect about his own family left Julia on her own while the bishop is busy raising funds for a new cathedral. Dudley's attentiveness, charm, and sheer magical powers drives Julia to him, but Dudley is only interested in helping Henry to get back with Julia. The writers have cleverly crafted many moments between Dudley and Julia that would be purely romantic, but writers did not forget to remind us that Dudley is an angel and he is not romancing Julia. Several instances of walking down the street, driving in the country and having lunch at local cafeteria, makes her feel that she is appreciated as a woman. The magical ice-skating scene where Dudley charms everyone with his skating ability, and helps Julia to glide on ice is a memorable scene of the movie that the viewers will never forget.
Dudley's "angelic" effect is felt by many people: He touches the lives of people he comes in contact with. As the friendship between Julia and Dudley becomes strong Henry begins to feel Dudley is a devil trying to steal his wife, but all ends well when Dudley finishes his job by helping Henry to raise money for the cathedral. Cary Grant is spectacular and charms not only Julia but many viewers. I was most impressed by the performance of Julia who is attracted to Dudley; she is tender, a romantic and vulnerable woman who also knows that she is a wife, and a mother.
Wonderful film, terrible DVD.......2007-01-08
I agree with all of the superlatives in all of the reviews....it's one of the true great films. You can't get casts or direction like that any more.
However, I've boght two copies from Amazon now and neither of them will play on a particular DVD player. The player will handle every other DVD I've tried in it but not that one. The picture breaks up as soon as the DVD starts, never getting into the film itself. if anyone picks this up, any ideas about what might cause it? My initial thought was that it's not a Region 2 DVD but that's not the case according to both Amazon and the case. A mystery...
Sent by Angels.......2006-08-05
I never tire of this film - I have watched it hundreds of times amd it still makes me laugh and cry. Oh what a wonderful thought that angels could look like Cary Grant. His comic timing was amazing as Dudley, the mischevious angel sent to help David Nivens' uptight and overworked bishop. Priceless.
The Bishop's Wife (1947 B&W.......2004-12-21
When you've been running round the shops and your head is in a whirl with all the hustle and bustle leading up to Xmas, STOP... sit down and watch this film with a warm glass of mulled wine in front of the Xmas tree. At the end you will feel warm all over.
I have watched this film for years. I just love it. I adore Cary Grant anyway but him and David Niven are beautifully paired together. The wonder The Angel brings to everyone is magical. The scenes in the professor's house, the skating in the park, they just don't make films like this these days.
I would recommend everyone to watch this film leading up to Xmas, lose yourself in it and get back that Xmas feeling. WATCH IT!!
