This was made way before my time,but "Big Hearted Arthur" Askey was certainly still a big star when I was a kid.This dvd represents reasonable value for money. Although there are no extras, the picture is mostly very good,but for one or two patches of scratches,and the sound is clear,far better than, for example, the Bob Hope film The Cat And The Canary,against which it otherwise suffers by comparison.

The thing is, unless you are an AA fan it's not very funny , and it's definitely not scary, but it nevertheless does have its charms, principally Askey and Moore Marriot, borrowed, along with Graham Moffat, from Will Hay.Askey puts in a decent performance, certainly better than his turn in The Ghost Train, and it's easy to see why he was once so popular.

As a so called "haunted house" movie it's okay,but people disappear far too quickly and frequently and there is never even the slighest hint of menace.This is an out and out comedy in the Will Hay mould, which relies almost entirely on its star's pulling power. I remember Arthur Askey with fondness and so I quite enjoyed this,but if you don't, you probably won't.
