Deceptive? Trap.......2006-03-16
Lawson Russell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) lawyer and aspiring writer is critiquing book for an aged man who dies. There he comes in position of a manuscript for a novel about several lawyers being murdered. He published it as his own. His novel is a great success.
There is only one catch; these were real deaths and only the writer of the novel could have known the details. So the writer must be the murderer.
To further complicate things there is no record of the dead novelist.
We have seen this primes several times but very few are this well acted.

Awesome film, a little gem, i have no idea why it is not more famous. Cuba gooding is excellent as the naughty lawyer-turned-writer who pinches a murder mystery manuscript from a recently deceased friend. After claiming all the glory aswell as all the money for the book, it transpires the book may have been autobiographical after all! Cuba is suspected of real-life murders which are outlined in careful detail in the book. What is he to do? And how did this happen?! I don't want to ruin it for you! Once you've seen it i guarantee you'll be recommmending it to all your friends. Such a simple story line, yet such satisfying twists. I love this film.
Great stuff.......2004-01-30
What a clever film! A naughty Cuba Gooding Jnr pinches an unpublished murder mystery novel from his recently deceased acquaintance only to find that the novel's contents were more fact than fiction, and he is the accused! After weaving himself into a web of lies, which saw him become filthy rich almost overnight, he must now extricate himself in order to avoid certain imprisonment. I won't spoil the rest for you, as this is a little gem of a film. Why is it not more famous? Who knows, just get a copy. Cuba Gooding and Tom Berenger are both great in it and it's a miracle that its simple premise hasn't been done before. Excellent for Saturday night viewing.
