THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY. 2.5 STARS........2008-03-14
Im a big fan of any Zombie movies & even a bigger fan of George Romeros, & so I had to watch this Film. Firstly I must state that Romero had nothing to do with this movie other than it was supposed to have been inspired by his original 'Day of the Dead'. Unfortunately you can tell this is a low budget movie with its B class actors & weak script, however I cant find myself disliking this movie. It sells itself as a prequel & a sequel to 'Day of the Dead', however I witnessed little to back this up. The Story seems to stand on its own with differences to the original. For example the Zombies in this movie can talk & I find that the most negative thing I can say about this movie. I like the fact that in most Zombie movies there is no communications & so you cant reason with them not to kill you. This film was trying to give us an explanation to the outbreak (as in Resident evil) with a secret, deadly virus. The story evolves with some small pockets of good acting but nothing of any award quality. This story tries hard in many places & if you give it a chance you will see plenty of gore by its end.Talking of the end, this Film seems to end as if they had run out of ideas on what to do next. On the whole Ive seen much worse. Fans of Zombie movies will probably like this, look out for the name plate on the outside wall. Its early on in the Film it says 'Romero Ward'. An average score of 2.5 stars for an average film. See 'Land of the Dead' or 'Dawn of the Dead' if you want a really 5 star Zombie movie.
Day of the Dead 2 - Horsemanure!.......2008-01-17
Absolute rubbish! Don't bother wasting you're time to watch this garbage as it's not gory as the original Day of the Dead (5 stars for Romero's classic btw for gore and storyline!) and the acting is awful. The director and the actors should be eaten alive for their pointless effort into making something that doesn't follow on at all to Romero's classic!
Dreadful and frustating..........2007-07-24
I bought this film having never heard of it and, being a big fan of the Romero zombie films, had medium expectations. The cover art has the same zombie profiles repeatedly imposed on it which lead me think it must be rather dubious if they couldn't even get more than 3 silouettes, but nothing could prepare me for how shoddy and embarassing the film is.
First of all the set-up and theory as to how the zombie 'virus' came into existence is completely different from the explantions (or the creepy lack thereof) in the Romero films, which is annoying and audacious of the writers.
The direction of the film is pretty dreadful, basic mistakes and errors run throughout the film which makes it difficult to get through. The pacing is slow at best and the script often laughably bad. The attempts at characterisation are ham fisted and the whole 'mental asylum' plot set-up is silly and not really convincing. The beginning of the film could have been much more exciting but for the lack of special effects (the guns don't even seem to fire!) and more questionable directing decisions.
If there is one positive thing to say about Day of the Dead 2: Contagium (note that 'Contagium' is not even a real word) it's the lead actors. The two leads who play mental patients who are in love really do try as does the actor playing their doctor. The dialogue is poor but they are trying and it shows in some scenes.
As a huge fan of the genre I can say this is one of the worst modern entries next to 'The Zombie Chronicles'. I suppose it might be worth owning for the sheer novelty, and if you're a collector of zombie films you may find yourself buying it just so you can say that you own it. It is however a very, very badly made film that steals the title of a very good zombie film. Keep this in mind and you won't be dissapointed while watching it.
Last thoughts: A woeful mish-mash.
not anything to do with the of the dead films.......2006-07-22
george a remero should not have agreed to this it is explained in night of the living dead the orignal that radation cources the dead to rise up so for a start the whole virus bit is wrong
2nd this is a prequel that is nothing to do with the orignal idea it is also the worst load of toss i have seen and i would like to see ever singal evidence of it buired in a hole tell the end of time
my advice to all involved in making this film is to retire and hid from the outside world and NEVER MAKE A FILM EVER AGAIN
