The Worst of Tom Baker.......2007-05-25
I recently saw this complete series for the first time since I was a kid in 1978. This is pretty bad, the stories are poor. Unlike those of the Philip Hinchcliffe Producer era (1974-77), that were chilling, brilliantly scripted and acted. They hold up very well with time, but this set of stories are vapid and pathetic. The acting is not much better. Baker really seemed to have lost his edge here. The only good thing about the forthcoming release on Region 2 DVD will be the interview extras.
Avoid this
keys to time.......2005-01-05
This was the fifth Tom Baker season and out of the seven he did this is the second worst.
However there are two decent stories:-
Pirate planet
armageddon factor
Two fair stories:-
stones of blood
power of Kroll
And two abysmal, soul destroying pices of tat:-
Ribos operation
Androids of Tara
The reason that the complete season was too long is that at least one third of it is awful. Meaning that viewers would drop out along the way.
It's such a shame as the previous four seasons were fantastic. K9 is the star in these shows, so if you like plastic doggies then get this now.
Average at best and very over-rated!.......2004-12-20
If you just like to see Tom Baker (or Mary Tamm, for that matter,) then this set has just what you want, but if you want to see him before he got so obviously fed up with what he was doing, before he became a caricature, before all the talented backroom boys that helped him make his name deserted him, and before everything that used to make the show so wonderful was eliminated from it, then you should most definitely look elsewhere. "The Ark In Space" and "The Robots Of Death" are both outstanding, and far, far better than anything from the "Key To Time" season, though aside from uninspiring commentaries they have virtually no features; the best all-round packages available featuring Tom Baker released so far are undoubtedly "Pyramids Of Mars" and "Talons Of Weng-Chiang", though there is a lot to be said for "The Leisure Hive", a stand out story from his last season. Unfortunately, many of the best Tom Baker Stories have yet to debut on DVD, but for anyone with a phenomenal memory, watch out for the following, which I count among my personal all-time favourites from the 26 seasons of show: "Genesis Of The Daleks" (even if you HATE the Daleks, trust me, that one really is worth seeing!), "The Seeds Of Doom", "The Face Of Evil" (very under-rated, and not to be confused with "Planet Of Evil", which also takes place in an alien jungle"), "City Of Death" and "Warriors Gate" (this is a real oddball and it clearly suffered from a lack of cash, but its great nonetheless). Oh yeah, the next DVD release, out in the first week of 2005, is a real gem, especially if you like stories with a historical setting that dont depend too much on bug-eyed monsters - its called "The Horror Of Fang Rock", and if it has features as good as the most recent releases (and there is no reason why it should not,) then it will make a great addition to your collection, even if you are not usually an SF fan. Oh yeah, while I am still here, for those that can see beyond Tom Baker, the subsequent two releases, "The Mind Robber" and "The Claws Of Axos", though very, very different, are equally good, though the first of those is [SHOCK! HORROR!] in black and white.
AMAZING.......2004-01-13
What more can i say than just utterly amazing, Tom Baker, in my opinion, the best doctor, doing what he does best.
This is truly a dvd worth purchasing especially if you are fan of Tom Baker like me
Fantastic
This is how they should release Dr Who on DVD !!!!.......2004-01-09
Each DVD (6 in total) contains the complete story and commentary, with Tom Baker, Mary Tamm and some the Directors.
This was the first and last time that Dr. Who streched a story across an entire season, although each story holds up on its own, it was felt a little too much for us viewers to keep track of !
By now Tom Baker was in his stride, getting the right amount of humor and suspense...which is why he became the best ever Doctor !
Just get it............
