3 out of 5 stars squirm is a forgotten classic.......2008-03-03

This is a low budget frightfest. I originally read the book of the novel first before i even knew there was a movie based on it. It was a while until it was finally aired on Bravo and i saw it for the first time. Not quite as chilling as the book but still very creepy and a little bit scary.I was surprised to know that Sylvester Stallone wanted the part as Roger. Can you imagine Sly doing this film? He must have really loved the book. Squirm is one of those platinum classics. Not brilliant but still eeriely watchable. The attack scenes were too few to set up the tension of the film which is a shame. If there had been more focus on the attacks and less on the characters then this might have actually creeped everybody out and become a reel for reel cult classic like Jaws. When one of the attacks does happen, it is done very well. i was shocked to see that a young Rick Baker (An American werewolf in London, Thriller, Nutty Professor) actually did the effects for that scene. A few of the characters were either too strange for the story or just seemed out of place and the accents were appalling. The saving grace of the movie are the worms. Most of them real and towards the end some rubber, but it doesn't kill the tension which is good. Squirm could have been so much better than it is, maybe if a remake is on the cards (which nowadays seems likely) then they will focus on the worms more than the people and deliver a film that will truely make you SQUIRM in your seat.

2 out of 5 stars A movie for everyone.......2004-07-18

This film polarizes people's opinions. It is either so awful that you like it or so awful that you don't like it. I personal found it difficult to complete. You could easily mistake this for a Lucas film. It has family interaction, a down to earth challenge, and an electrifying effect on the landscape. There are several "stay in the car scenes" and plenty of opportunities to say, "don't do that".

So reiterating, for some people it will worm its way into their harts; for their people it is a gross opportunity. That is why I could not give it a one or five stat rating.

4 out of 5 stars gross near classic.......2004-03-15

This is one of the biggest surprises(or a SU-price as is said in the movie) I have seen all year. As the cover says its got lots of worms and if you've still got nightmares about the time your big brother made you eat worms this is NOT the movie for you. Imagine closeups of the worms screaming and you've got the picture. I fancy myself a man who can take the worst but after seeing this I have not looked at pasta in the same way. Apart from the worms you get some early, good(albeit too little) fx from master Rick Baker. And if you're a little disapointed after watching it, you should see the audio commentary by the director. Apparently it could have been an epic with Kim Basinger, Martin Sheen and Sylvester Stallone!

5 out of 5 stars Finaly on dvd the greatest late night tv show........2008-02-19

Weird science the tv show is to me the holy grail of dvd's because i've been waiting for this to come out since i first saw an episode on later night tv over here in England,to let you know how long ago this was i was still at school at the time of getting hooked on the show and i'm now 25 so i've been waiting for about ten years now.
The show is about two nerd's called wyatt and gary who create there ideal perfect woman lisa(a very sexy vanessa angel) who can grant them their wishes and so the boys and lisa go about having crazy and funny adventures. I'd also like to tell you that one of the boys brother is called chett and is a real hardass to the two boys, Watch out for chett because he's the funniest person in the show and always has the best lines.
Included in this boxset is all 26 episodes from season one and two, and extras include audio commentaries with actors vanessa angel and john mallory asher and these are great because they give a great insight into what went into creating the show's and john mallory asher is still very funny.
So in closing if you like comedy with a hint of sci-fi buy weird science the programme it's well worth the money and you wont be sorry.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible film that's become a cult phenomenon.......2008-01-24

I picked this up in a charity shop, suspecting that it might be some sort of 1980's horror curio. While I'm familiar with 'so bad they're good' films such as 'Central Park Drifter' and 'Zombie Flesh Eaters', nothing could have prepared me for the quality of this film, which takes mediocre to a new dimension. Inevitably, perhaps, it has become a cult phenomenon, and interested readers can log on to an internet movie database to find out more. Apparently, Troll 2 has been voted the 'best worst movie' of all time. This seems appropriate; the only way to understand how bad this film is would be to imagine a GCSE (UK age 16 high school diploma) drama group being given cameras, access to the props bin, and being told to improvise. I have given this film 1 star because cult phenomenon or not, watching this film is not a productive or healthy way to spend 90 minutes. You have been warned.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest movie i have ever, ever seen!.......2007-03-17

This movie has changed my life! Before watching it i had enjoyed funny movies, (e.g. Tommy Boy, The King Of Comedy, Spinal Tap). I had also enjoyed so-crap-it's-funny movies, (e.g. Plughead Rewired: Circuitry Man II, Jingle All The Way, Granny). This movie is definitely both the crappest and funniest thing i have ever seen in my life.
What can i say poorly written, directed, acted, lit, edited, etc. If you are a fan of Darth Marenghi's Dark Place you can throw it away. Go for the real thing! This movie will have you and your friends passing back and forth quotes, playing drinking games, and generally just adoring the greatest picture ever! Buy it now!

1 out of 5 stars Are people insane?? Worst Film EVER!!!!!!!.......2006-08-11

I think anyone else that watched this film and reviewed it was high wen they watched it...I honestly cant see how they gave it 5 stars!! This is without a doubt the worst film I have EVER seen, and no it's not so bad it's good-its just plain crap. I feel depressed I wasted an hour and a half of my life watching it. The story is pants, the acting is appauling to the point its actually really irritating and the trolls are so unscary and pants looking me and my mates actually had to check if the film were for real. I will never watch this film again and wish it hjad never been made. How do people get a budget to make these films??!! The goblin witch woman is the worst character ever and her acting is really bad, if i ever meet her she will be given a swift backhander.
Troll 1 is a qualiy film, one of my favourite films, this 'sequel' has none of its charm or wonder. I'm really annoyed that my DVD has both these films on it cos I feel it brings down the Troll film. I want to forget this film exists but I'm constantly reminded of it cs its on the same disc. This film has nothing to do with the first so don't even consideer it as a sequel or being it the same league. It is crap and I really wouldn't waste your time watching it! You have been warned!

5 out of 5 stars a wonderful exposition in postmodern art........2005-05-15

well where do I start. This fine artifact of white trash culture has to be one of the most profound and life-changing film realisms of the modern age with its gritty and challenging sub-text being both provocative and invoking of the more erstwhile qualities of the human spirit.

This fable of courage, faith and love is lovingly brought to your screen through myth, adventure and chilling screenplay. It's a testament to tenacity in the face of mounting obstacles and determination to do what is right in the eyes of th world thus giving the audience an ineffable sesne of charm and awareness of true justice. Authentic and genuine tomfoolery and cheap mummery make this a real ode to the heart of the truest hero in this society of cowards!

To be commended.

5 out of 5 stars The Horror Flick That Challenges GRANNY.......2004-08-20

Absolutely, staggeringly, mind blowingly, shockingly poor. With so much crappy acting, special effects editing, fake gore, blood and shat story points that it challenges Granny as the worst film of all time. Yet the film is sooo bad that it is possibly the funniest thing since Baseketball, Ace Ventura and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Absolutely, positively the greatest horror crap of all time. Miss it at your absolute peril, although seeing it will probably kill too!

3 out of 5 stars crazy jap horror madness.......2007-11-30

I decided to write a review because I thought that the other review was extremely harsh. A lot of what it says is kind of correct but should be seen as possitive aspects of the film, which is a little bit tongue in cheek anyway. Also it does have some great cinematogrophy, humour and alot of originality. There are also some excellent extras. I would say this is a good package.

1 out of 5 stars Hammy Horror.......2007-11-17

Supposedly one of Japanese cinemas most notorious films (banned for more than 30 years!, Horror of Malformed Men suffers from a severe case of the Emperor's New Clothes. It's absolute tosh - the plot is too ridiculous and convoluted to even attempt to relate here but it involves lots of gratuitous female nudity, some terrible 'creature' effects (okay, this was made in the late 60's)and two laughable lead performances - particularly from the Dr Moreau like leader of the 'malformed men' who makes the Bela Lugosi stand-in in Plan 9 From Outer Space look like Laurence Olivier. Cultural differences notwithstanding, this is rubbish in any language.
