me and my friend went through a phase of watching really bad films, and this was by far our favourite! Good old Rumpy...he has some great one-liners. We also loved how whenever the mother told the baby to stop crying, it was actually laughing and when they were told to "get into the car!", they were already in it! Fabulous...I'm just mad it's only available to watch in America...you lucky people!!!

Not as good as Leprechaun.......2007-03-01

As a fan of the Leprechaun series of goofy horror films, I was pleased to discover that original Leprechaun writer/director Mark Jones had made another foray into the world of under-sized monsters with this film. Instead of pillaging from Irish mythology, this time he's stealing from the classic German folk tale Rumpelstiltskin.

The film follows inveterate baby stealer Rumpelstiltskin as he chases down a woman and her young child in modern day Los Angeles. Rumpelstiltskin has a funny way of speaking, switching between a kind of Shakespearean eloquence and modern-day wisecracks, but he's a more malevolent figure than the Leprechaun. Also, he's a baby stealer, which is really not cool, so your sympathies will definitely fall in favour of the good guys in this one.

This isn't a bad film, but it lacks the demented energy of the Leprechaun series and is, ultimately, less entertaining.

worst/best horror movie ever!.......2004-07-22

Rumpelstiltskin is one of those horrible, trashy, straight to video horror movies that sits on the bottom shelf of rental stores everywhere. Yet somehow, it defies all expectations and delivers a solidly crap hour and a half of terrible movie enjoyment. The performances are on the whole, abysmal( With the exception of Max Grodenchik in the title role!) the story is as predictable and hackneyed as they come and of course it has the inevitable suggestion of a sequel stapled onto the end. My advice is: take it all with a pinch of salt and watch it with some friends, preferably when inebriated. The only real recomendation is its high production values- explosions/stunts are impressive and the make up effects surpsisingly good but with actors this bad its easy to see where the money went! Warning: has little or no reference to the fairy tale character with the exception of the gloriously inept opening sequence.

Oh dear.......2007-08-20

You know how it is: you watch remakes and then you see the original, and the original is usually 10 times better than the remake? With Gamera this isn't the case.
Imagine a typically 60s Godzilla movie. Now reduce the budget by about half...That's what these are like.
However, I like Japanese monster movies, so even awful ones are fun.

The only bad aspect is the quality of the image. It's like a 2nd Generation VHS copy. How the publishers have the nerve to release product with such an awful picture is beyond me. All I cans say is I'm glad I didn't pay more.
