5 out of 5 stars Excellent:)).......2008-03-05

This set is great value for many, as buying every DVD separately is just so expensive. And my son just loves watching it. Very usefull when you need a coffe brake or have some house work to do and don't want to be disturbed. Even my friends kids that are much older love to watch them.

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny!.......2008-02-05

The lady who created these dvds deserves to be made an honorary dame! They are fantastic. My wee boy loves them and if he's a bit fractious they really help to distract him and he will sit and happily watch at least one at a time. They are ideal for the slot in the late afternoon when you need to make tea! When my husband and I first watched them we wondered what the big deal was, as there just seemed to be a lot of footage of toys and colours. However, now we are mesmerized by them too. We actually prefer the ones that are less educational, probably because we know our colours and numbers, and would rather be soothed by beautiful music and fascinating toys (some of which I'm tempted to buy for myself!). Our son gets excited when he hears the opening music and it makes him smile when he sees other children on the screen. Unlike so many children's dvds, these are not irritating in any way- I even like the very sweet American accent of the lady who does the voiceover! Definitely worthwhile buying the boxset, as you get 24 dvds for a fraction of the cost of buying several individually.

3 out of 5 stars Only American commentry.......2008-01-22

I ws a litle disappointed to find printed on the box that this collection is only meant to be sold in the USA and therefore you are unable to select a language, so the commentry and language is very American and not always good!! Great value but a little confusing for those just learning language. Think this should be made clear before purchase

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Gift - See Ages below.......2007-12-16

I ordered this for my 3 month old daughter and strongly suspect it will turn out to be the best £33 I've spent so far (and I've spent plenty). The way these are packaged is basic but also space saving. The visuals are wonderful, clear and bright with a soothing classical soundtrack. The only downside of this set is is does not state on each individual dvd the appropriate viewing age. So as it is the season of giving....... I have listed them for all of you parents, I have checked each individual dvd on amazon.com so it comes straight from baby einsteins mouth (so to speak :-). I have used a permament marker and written direct onto each dvd for ease.
3+ months - Language Nursery, baby mozart, baby bach, baby beethoven, lullaby time, babys 1st moves, baby monet.
6+ months - World animals, baby neptune, baby van gogh, baby's 1st signs, baby da vinci, neighbourhood animals, baby shakespeare, santa's music box.
9+ months - discovering shapes, baby macdonald, baby wordsworth, baby noah, baby gallileo, on the go.
12+ months - numbers nursery, favourite places, meet the orchestra, baby newton.

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended.......2007-09-22

This boxset is excellent value for money as it contains 24 DVD's all about half an hour long. About five of the DVD's are suitable from birth and the rest from about 9 months old. My son has watched these DVD's since he was about 3 months old and he is 10 months old now and still loves watching them. I would recommend this boxset as the DVD's are educational and will leave your little one mesmerised for half an hour which is great if you need to get on with some housework. I would imagine that my son will carry on enjoying these DVD's until he is about 2 or maybe a little bit older.

5 out of 5 stars The Spy Who Loved Me - A Review.......2007-11-21

Pretty much an epic greatest hits pack for Bond featuring everything you would expect in the Bond films. Roger Moore returns once again to cement his role as Bond who has to stop evil maniac, Karl Stromberg from destroying the world. Featuring the ever famous Jaws and one of the best Bond girls, pre-creds sequence, henchmen and finale in a Bond film. If you are to watch any one Bond film in your life, make it this one.

4 out of 5 stars Moore finds his groove as Bond.......2007-10-02

By this 1977 movie, the Roger Moore era of movies had found their direction and formula. The same as Goldfinger represented the coming together of ingredients for Connery, here Moore is at his most relaxed in the role, but still young enough to get away with it, and the sets, the villain, the set pieces, all create the mood for the definitive Moore Bond movie.
Alas, the definitive Bond movie has aged badly, unless you are able to relish the campness of the massive (and still impressive) sets and the script apparently written by a three year old (GIRL: `James, I need you!'... BOND: `..so does England!'). It's a miracle that medical attention was not required to remove tongues from cheeks...
Clearly, the mood of the times was for escapism and fantasy - and this movie fit the mould well. Barbara Bach is one of the most beautiful Bond girls, and actually plays quite a strong role, even though her acting lessons seem to have been taken at a carpentry school instead of a drama school. The signature stunt at the beginning of the movie, where Bond skis off a cliff and after a few heartstopping moments the parachute bursts open to reveal the Union Jack, is sublime lunacy that raised cheers in the cinema in 1977. Curt Jurgens is inspired casting to lend a degree of gravitas to the megalomaniac Stromberg. An additional bonus is the first appearance of Jaws, played by Richard Kiel - you can't help feeling that the scenes where he keeps trying and failing to get 007 leave you rooting for Jaws more than Bond. It's obvious why they brought him back in the next movie. The music has shifted in tone from John Barry's classic riffs and stringy feel, to an electronic mood, which again exaggerates the 70's feel of the movie... and let's not start on the ladies hairstyles... And the character of Bond is changing. More one liners than ever to be sure.. but compare Connery in the very similar action scene at the end of You Only Live Twice (same director) - there, Connery moves gracefully throught the milieu almost like a dancer, dealing with the enemy only as and when he needs to to achieve his goal, leaving the fighting and blowing up to others. Here, Moore has to be at the centre of everything, and lead all the action scenes. It's a trend which takes the character into fantasy more than ever before.
The Ultimate Edition has the crystal clear picture and sound we have come to expect, and all the extras from the Special Edition, including the essential documentary Inside The Spy Who Loved Me, and the commentary of the movie - all excellent value. New features include a brand new commentary by Moore, and an abundance of minor period featurettes, such as the 007 sound stage dedication, opened by Harold Wilson, the ex -PM.
This is a movie much parodied, and obviously camp and dated, and yet that is its whole appeal - it was at the time entirely original (well, except the plot elements stolen from other Bond movies) and full of iconic items and moments - the Lotus Esprit, the Pyramids light show, the first movie appearance of a jetski, Jaws... It is a movie which in no way tries to be timeless - it is very much of the time, and as such it's a small treasure.... as long as you know what you are letting yourself in for.

5 out of 5 stars the BEST of the BONDS.......2007-08-28

i bloody love this film, the extras on the DVD are alright but lets talk about the film itself. the restoration work on this edition to the series for the late seventies is quite impressive. the newly recorded commentary from Sir Roger Moore was also entertaining, listening to the stories from his career and of course filming The Spy Who Loved Me, which was his favourite of the Bond he did. can you blame him? even after thirty years, this film is the definitive Bond film and is on my list of all-time favourite films. if you only buy one Bond, get this one! JAWS ROCKS!

5 out of 5 stars Vintage James!.......2007-07-28

This is Roger's tour-de-force as 007: a white submersible Lotus Esprit, Barbara Bach, Egypt, Richard Kiel as Jaws, the incredible opening sequence, Carly Simon's fabulous theme tune...this re-released version has some nice extras, and I would watch it on as big a TV as you can find because I still cannot beat the experience I had watching this as a ten year old in 1977 on the big screen: when the Bond music kicked in after the opening chase everyone in the cinema cheered, and rightly so!

Nice one Roger...

5 out of 5 stars The best of Moore's 'FX show' Bonds.......2007-02-20

The Spy Who Loved Me holds up, along with You Only Live Twice, as the best of the special effects show Bond movies (like Lewis Gilbert's other Bond, the dire Moonraker, it more or less shares the same plot and even identical camera set-ups in places). Planned to turn the Bonds back into blockbusters after the somewhat more down to Earth Harry Saltzman left the series, Cubby Broccoli plays safe with a virtual `greatest hits' compilation album of all your favorite Bond setpieces (the train fight from From Russia With Love, a gadget-filled car a la Goldfinger, a ski chase a la OHMSS, etc), but its put together with skill, panache and a sense of the epic that carries you along. Moore's Bond still has a bit of steel in him and the script is so good you find yourself wondering if it really is the same Christopher Wood responsible for the British soft-porn Confessions series credited as co-writer.

As with others in the series, the upgrade to 2-disc `Ultimate Edition' at times feels more cosmetic than actual in terms of extras (as usual, there are plenty of other potential supplements, such as Movietone newsreel footage of the shoot, that have not been included), although alongside brief archive footage of the massive purpose-built 007 Stage being dedicated, a vintage Roger Moore and a 1977 promo featurette covering the shoot in Egypt there are production designer Ken Adams' home movies of the shoot and a storyboard sequence. But, alongside Moore's new commentary, perhaps the most enjoyable extras are the TV spots and the teaser trailer introduced by Moore in character carried over from the previous issue.

Thunderbolt And Lightfoot [1974]

Amazon.co.uk Review

Jeff Bridges actually corralled an Oscar nomination for his spirited, oddball performance in the genre-crime story Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, directed by first-timer Michael Cimino who (a short two films later) would bring down a studio with Heaven's Gate. Clint Eastwood plays a bank robber par excellence with a flair for explosives who is being hunted by his former partners, who think he has their loot from their last job. Bridges is his eager apprentice and sidekick, who helps him escape; when Eastwood finally makes peace with his hunters, Bridges convinces them to try a daring robbery--but things inevitably go awry. The relationship between Eastwood and Bridges is both funny and touching in this, one of Eastwood's better post-Dirty Harry efforts. --Marshall Fine

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Non-anamorphic.......2008-02-21

This 2003 DVD edition is letterbox/non-anamorphic. That means if you watch it on a widescreen TV, you get thick black bars left, right, top and bottom. Or use your TV remote to zoom in, but then you get a picture quality that's worse than VHS.

It's about time publishers took letterbox/non-anamorphic DVDs out of circulation.

3 out of 5 stars "You stick with me kid. You're gonna live forever.".......2007-12-15

This 1974 caper movie manages the neat trick of both delivering what the audience wants and subverting their expectations at the same time. Clint Eastwood plays a crook on the run from ex-partners in crime George Kennedy and Geoffrey Lewis (often hysterically funny here) who teams up with Jeff Bridges' extrovert drifter to retrieve the loot from a previous robbery only to find his old accomplices tagging along and things - naturally - not going at all to plan. It's an almost perfectly judged mixture of comedy and action with both feet firmly on the ground in a way that would be almost unthinkable today. There's a real rapport between the outstanding cast and an affection for the characters that adds to the impact of the very Seventies ending. Writer-director Michael Cimino handles the mood swings adeptly and even injects a subtle undercurrent of sexual ambiguity that never gets in the way of the entertainment: this was a terrific movie in 1974, and if anything it's an even better one today. The transfer isn't great, but it is in the original 2.35:1 widescreen ratio.

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps a little too 'buddy-buddy'!!!.......2006-11-21

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is an excellent film and certainly a classic from Eastwood's acting career (the film was written and directed by Michael Cimino).

The basic story is a fairly standard crime, heist, road movie, and on the face of it, not bad at that. However, and I'm surprised nobody has commented on this in previous reviews, the quality of this movie as story-telling and film-making is in the less than subtle sub-text: they're all gay!

I'll leave it to you to discover the references to the sexuality of all four of the crooks but they are there for you to see. Taking this aspect of the story on board elevates the movie to another level of fascination and really exemplifies the qualities of the cast and direction.

One very important feature to observe is the handling of the different relationships of the two pairs of crooks: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot and Leary and Goody ('Goody' being a Puritan term for 'Wife').

This film is an interesting mix of genre and theme and some fine, if slightly over the top, performances. Michael Cimino has done very little better (see The Deer Hunter) and has certainly done a lot worse (don't see Heaven's Gate!).

The DVD itself is completely devoid of extras (I don't include the Theatrical trailer as an extra), however, the film alone is a gem.

4 out of 5 stars Clint and Jeff at their best.......2004-11-05

Great, great movie. Has all the ingredients one expects of a Clint Eastwood movie. Jeff Bridges almost steals the show with his portrayal of the young drifter "Lightfoot" who meets up with an older drifter the "Thunderbolt" (name given him by a newspaper after a robbery where the money had never been recovered). Lots of action some amusing scenes - especially when Jeff dresses up as a sexy female and another where a family have all been bound and gagged, the parents manage to get to their daughters bedroom door and find her gagged and tied to a boy, both naked, there without their knowledge! Makes you chuckle at their predicament. Has a few quite violent interludes as well.
All I can say is buy it and enjoy repeated viewings.

3 out of 5 stars Rather nasty, truth be told.......2004-07-14

A bit blurred. Needs a remastering job like 'The Good, The Bad and the Ugly'. Colours look a bit flat, too, or maybe that's how it originally looked.

This film has something missing I can't quite put my finger on. It's funny and unpredictable, but maybe lacks excitement overall. Or maybe amoral thugs are understandably difficult to empathise with. Bridges laugh will irritate you, too. The best dialogue is Lightfoot's hilarious final monologue, in which he doesn't see himself as a criminal anymore, but as someone whose done something to be proud of. Well, it made me laugh.

At the time, it seemed like it would always be the 70's, that there couldn't possibly be any years to come. Well, they did come and perhaps these films have finally dated, but the price is right, as they say, so there's very little downside in picking up this DVD. Recommended.

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Dukes of Hazzard was part of America's redneck fetish in the mid-to-late 1970s, otherwise evident in popular songs, movies, and television shows highlighting fast cars, truckers, citizens' band radio, moonshine, irreverent hicks, and clueless lawmen. Created by writer-producer Gy Waldron and inspired by his own 1975 bootlegging comedy, Moonrunners, Dukes milked seven seasons of material from the tale of a Deep South family of reformed whiskey-makers and their running feud with a greedy impresario and his chief lackey, a buffoonish, venal sheriff.

This three-disc set includes all 13 initial episodes of Dukes from 1979, a period fans fondly recall because some of the programs were shot on location in Covington, Georgia, rather than a Burbank backlot. Also noteworthy is that a couple of key characters, particularly Hazzard County's corrupt lawman, Roscoe P. Coltrane (James Best), hadn't gelled yet into permanent hayseed stereotypes and were arguably more interesting at the beginning. At the center of the action are Sheriff Coltrane's nemeses, cousins Bo Duke (John Schneider) and Luke Duke (Tom Wopat), a couple of wild boys buzzing through the backwoods in the "General Lee," a souped-up Dodge Charger. Bo and Luke are good at heart but have to behave themselves while on indefinite probation, complicating but not halting their efforts to vex Roscoe and his patron, diminutive bigwig Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke). The enmity runs both ways: Roscoe and Boss Hogg, with the aid of witless Deputy Enos Strate (Sonny Shroyer), dream up ways of eliminating the Dukes--including their wise old Uncle Jesse (Denver Pyle)--but their efforts always backfire.

While every episode is a variation on the previous one, predictability is a virtue in Dukes. The series pilot, "One Armed Bandits," finds Luke and Bo, with help from their sexy cousin, Daisy (Catherine Bach), diverting slot machines (smuggled into Hazzard County by Roscoe and Boss Hogg) to sundry watering holes where they can raise money for Bo's girlfriend's charity. In "Money to Burn," Boss Hogg tries to frame Bo and Luke for robbing an armored truck, while in "Deputy Dukes," the unarmed guys are forced by Roscoe to escort a deadly prisoner from one town to another. The Dukes hit back in "Daisy's Song," investigating a scam that took Daisy for $50 and implicates, of course, Boss Hogg and Roscoe.

Yes, it's a show about rubes, car stunts, and a legacy of moonshine, but there's something comforting about it, in a tongue-in-cheek way. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

this folks, is the very first season of the dukes of Hazzard. Containing all the episodes from season 1 this sure to please. Get to know Uncle Jesse, Bo, Luke, cousin Daisy and Hazzards mechanic Cooter. There are high jinks a plenty as Boss Hogg and roscoe plan and plot against 'them dukes' And while Roscoe is always chasing the boys there is a warm welcome at the duke farmhouse.

this is the role that made a star out of wopat and Schneider and you can easily see why. Get to know the dukes over and over again. The pilot episode 'one armed bandit' is a gem. bo and Luke accept a drivng job for a pretty lady. Only, said lady is running an illegal gambling operation in the truck bo and luke are driving. Cue a little 'shuck and jive' duke style.

5 out of 5 stars oooo them dukes! them dukes!.......2005-11-07

I almost forgot all about the dukes of hazzard until it FINALLY came to DVD, What a classic now you are not gunna get indepth story lines and deep dramatics like late starsky and hutch seasons, because this is the duke of hazzard and its all about having fun with the good ole' boys there are some dramatic moments but there is always a happy ending which is whats missing i tv these days.

Rosco P. Coltrane and Boss J.D Hogg steele the show but the rest of the charectors are not far behind, all in all this is a great value for money home entertainment, i garuntee if you hav'nt wet your self laughing you will be left with a smile on your face and a feeling of warmth after watching the dukes of hazzard. as for season 2 and 3 as Rosco would say 'am a gona get em now!kew kew am gone'.

5 out of 5 stars so glad this series has been released on DVD.......2005-11-01

with Season one of The Dukes Of Hazzard there are so many good episodes. the episodes i do like are High Octane, The Big Heist and Limo One Is Missing. I also like the first episode One Armed Bandits. I watched that one with the commentary by John Schenider and Catherine Bach. Very entertaining commentary. The extras on disc five are top notch. i like the dukes of hazzard 20th anniversary barbecue. it was so good to see the members of the surviving cast talk about their memories of working on the show. My verdict about this boxset Brilliant.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun! Yeeeeee Haaaaaaaa.......2005-09-10

Remember when you were a kid? Not exactly doing homework because Dukes was on? Well if you don't just wait till the shows opening starts, with the guitar scene and the awfully familiar song. It will all come back...

5 out of 5 stars The best Bond films.......2007-08-20

At last! A Roger Moore boxset! They are my favourite Bond films and this will sure save a bit of time and money collecting them individually. Before this collection, I considered buying the complete Bond collection but in all honesty, I don't think other Bonds have been as good. In my opinion, Sean Connery's have dated a lot since they were made in the 60s, Timothy Dalton was dull, and Pierce Brosnan's became too scientific and OTT. Roger Moore Bond films were everything that the Bond films should be - fast cars, beautiful women, good stunts, action and effects (even by today's standards), and good humour thrown in for light relief. Who can forget the deadly yet comical henchman Jaws! I also think Rog had the best music and the best musical scores, especially from John Barry in Moonraker. I really don't understand why Roger Moore Bond is often overlooked and criticised for being too humourous. As well as all the action and drama that these films certainly deliver, Bond films need a bit of humour to lighten things up. I think Daniel Craig's tough and brutal Bond should've taken note of this. Highly recommended boxset. I hope this review has been helpful.

4 out of 5 stars About time too!.......2007-05-24

For years I have complained about VHS and DVD box sets professing to be 'complete' James Bond. As they are continuing to make 007 films, these expensive boxed sets are only going to be 'complete' until the next one comes out. I have been praying for Sean Connery and Roger Moore 007 DVD boxed sets for some time, not being a fan of Dalton or Brosnan, so this latest release suits me down to the ground - my favourite Bonds in boxed sets that won't be obselete in twelve months' time. One thing though - even when you have all the boxed sets, you still won't have all the films, you'd still have to buy George Lazenby's On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Sean Connery's 'unofficial' Never Say Never Again separately. Here's hoping they release a Daniel Craig boxed set to match the collection when he eventually retires from the role.

    5 out of 5 stars 5 Stars - No Question.......2007-05-16

I am a big James Bond fan, in particular the movies starring Roger Moore. I was slightly miffed after shelling out on the original DVDs to find these 'new, improved' versions arrive last year. That said, the remastering has been done meticulously on both the image and audio fronts (although the commentaries from Rog all seem to be very self depracating and charming, but after 10 minutes or so become tiresome).
I would also like to point out that all the criticism Rog receives for the so-called over the top humour etc. is very much misplaced. Real fans of the series will realise that the overt humour actually began in Connery's last outing as Bond, the disappointing Diamonds Are Forever. In fact, Moore's charisma managed to sustain the series for two decades.

    Buy with assuredness.

    4 out of 5 stars Fun escapism!.......2007-02-27

After the seriousness of the Sean Connery BONDS, along came Roger Moore. Still the oldest actor to have portrayed BOND, Moore was a rather mature 46 when he appeared in his first Bond film LIVE AND LET DIE in 1973 and 58 in his last outing, A VIEW TO A KILL in 1985. Age was never a factor however. While Moores BONDS are these days considered to be the worst of all, this had more to do with the scripts and the belief that Moore was simply not right for the part, too "suave". MOONRAKER was fun but silly, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, boring and OCTOPUSSY, weak scripted. That said his first 3 efforts and last 1, despite not being classics were huge fun. I would say, buy these individually.
