Although this is quite a small production on a small stage, the staging, sets and musical performances cannot be faulted. It is a joy from beginning to end. The singers although young blend together beautifully. Juan Diego Florez not only sings Fenton like a dream but looks and acts with the desired impetuosity - and he's handsome to boot!! All in all, not to be missed.

A performance which encapsulates the music of Verdi and his desire to project the feeling of Shakespeare. This "reduced" version provides us with a swift moving and clear idea of what Verdi was after. One can well understand why Toscanini was so moved by his chance to play this, the last of Verdi's operas, in Verdi's birthplace as a tribute to the composer he so much adored. Brilliantly conducted by Muti in a manner which I am sure would have pleased not only Toscanini but Verdi himself. The cast, the production and the performance produce a rounded and very satisfactory version of this work. It sits well alongside those of Toscanaini himself from Salzburg and the NBC.

Don't be put off by the sing-along tag.......2007-02-03

In case you're wondering, this collection does include the three films in their entirety. And the sing-along subtitles are optional.

I've only watched Summer Holiday so far. It's widescreen, so the subtitles (if selected) do not obscure the picture. In sing-along mode, songs are individually selectable.

My one gripe is that, if you do want to sing along, you don't get time to read the subtitle for each line before the first word is sung. The words consistently appear just that fraction of a second too late.
