      This is a good DVD if you want to learn to play the E9 pedal steel guitar.

      However the presentation is frequently very poor - lots of 'umm', 'aah', and 'er' between sentences and in the middle of sentences, and it is obvious that he has been making up what he is saying as he goes along rather than working to a well honed script. As a result the topics seem to bounce about all over the place, with bits of one topic dropped into the middle of another topic as the subject matter occurs to him.

      In some places Bruce actually gives the wrong string numbers and pedal names when giving out methods for the user to practice, although he does of course correct himself, and you can actually see him working out the string numbers in his head...

      Bruce can certainly play very well, and he demonstrates the physical actions of playing the instrument with awsome skill.

      He has a friendly, chatty style, which is quite endearing and I found that I warmed to him from the start. He is very clear that it takes time to master the instrument, and tries hard to help viewers avoid the pitfalls that slow many new learners down and prevent them from learning quickly.

      There is an awful lot of good material on this DVD, and if you discount the amateur presentation there is a lot that can help beginning to intermediate steel players to improve their game - just the tips on vibrato and harmony scales are well worth the price of the DVD.

      Bruce mentions the possibility of a further DVD with more advanced material on it, but I can find no evidence of one having been released - or at least not on Amazon! If such a DVD were available I would certainly buy it...

        I first saw this on VHS about 9 years ago and it was mind blowing to see Eric effortlessly switch between any style as he takes you on a journey through some of the influences that he has adapted to his unique style of playing!

        If you are a "serous" guitar player or even just starting out this DVD is an essential guide as to what and how you can develop as a guitarist in a format that is intimate and personable as if Eric is just sitting at your place.

        One of the best Guitar DVD's I have ever seen and I always feel inspired to keep going and get better as a player - so will you!
