A cult classic.......2007-01-06
I was originally introduced to this film by my sister and was fairly wary of it at first but now I think it is quite simply excellent. The film is based on the stage play of the same name written by Richard O'Brien, who also plays the butler Riff Raff, and the film is just as fun and anarchic. The music is brilliant and although some of the acting isn't all that great, it is appropriate for the type of film this is. Although I would say this film isn't for the faint hearted, it is definitely brilliantly fun.
I'm just a sweet transvestite..........2006-10-30
...from transexual Transilvania! A brilliant movie, I challenge anyone to watch this and not like it. The music is catchy, fast paced, and enjoyable even if it's not to your taste. The characters are all completely unique and zany. I wouldn't say there is much of a plot, but that just makes the movie seem more enjoyable in my opinion!
Anyways, I give it 5 stars and order anyone who hasn't seen it yet to go out and rent it now!
The most 'Interesting film' i've ever seen.......2006-06-13
the film is fantastic great unbelivable best ever blah blah blah blah blah - BUT everyone I have ever known to watch this film (not excluding yours truly) has always said the same thing the first few times they have watched it - what a load of garbage BUT having watched it no fewer than half a dozen times, they (and I) suddenly have a whole new unimginable appreciation for it. This i cant even explain but there are two things i'm sure of:- 1) if you were to buy this film just down to the reviews, make sure you grab a couple of beers and watch this film every night for one week, you will be a changed (converted even) person. 2) I do not belive there is anyone in the world that does/would/couldNOT uterly enjoy this film. This is more than a must have, you havent lived until you have been hooked on this madness rating - infinate / infinitecimal
Get the newspapers ready!.......2006-03-22
Well if you haven't seen this then there is a part of your brain that must be very frustrated this is the most weird and wonderful musical ever made.
I know that if you are an older person you might think it is too strange for you but let me tell you my 63 year old grandmother loved this when I showed it to her. Its for all ages and every different kind of person.
This is just fun, fun, fun. It will make you want to dig out your fishnets and show the kids how to really do the time warp.
Who would have thought that the bald bloke presenting 'The Crystal Maze' was sooo talented.
If you have never seen it then you should definitely buy it, it will pick you up whenever your down, and its great when you get your mates round. Have fun.
"It's just a jump to the left...,".......2005-08-23
It was a cold and rainy night Brad and Janet, had a flat and needed to find shelter and a phone. There was a light. Unknown to them was the particular caste was a meeting place of a unique other worldly crowd. Soon they will have realized their mistake; but will it bee too late?
And where have all the actors gone?
Susan Sarandon from Janet Weiss to Jackie Harrison in "Stepmom" (1998).
She took her screen daughter to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Tim Curry (who likes to play doctor) from Doctor Frank-N-Furter to Dr. Thornton Poole in "Oscar" (1991).
Oscar is still available from amazon.co.uk
Barry Bostwick from Brad Majors to Det. Tucker Pendleton to himself in "Hollywood Squares" (1998) [TV-Series]
Meatloaf from Eddie to himself in "Meat Loaf - Bat Out of Hell" (1999)
Richard Milhouse Nixon from Himself (archive audio: resignation speech) to "Speeches of Richard Nixon, The (1995) (V)" (archive footage) he will always be with us.
And where is Denton now?
Do your homework and be sure to get these movies first:
Day the Earth Stood Still, The (1951)
Flash Gordon (1936)
Invisible Man, The (1933)
King Kong (1933)
It Came From Outer Space (1953)
Doctor X (1932)
Forbidden Planet (1956)
Tarantula (1955)
Day of the Triffids, The (1962)
Night of the Demon (1957)
When Worlds Collide (1951)
House in Nightmare Park, The (1973)
Reptile, The (1966)
Brides of Dracula, The (1960)
Man in Black, The (1949)
Night of the Demon (1957)
Forbidden Planet (1956)

Amazon.co.uk Review
If a musical sci-fi satire about an alien transvestite named Frank-n-Furter, who is building the perfect man while playing sexual games with his virginal visitors, sounds like an intriguing premise for a movie, then you're in for a treat. Not only is The Rocky Horror Picture Show all this and more, but it stars the surprising cast of Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick (as the demure Janet and uptight Brad, who get lost in a storm and find themselves stranded at Frank-n-Furter's mansion), Meat Loaf (as the rebel Eddie), Charles Gray (as our criminologist and narrator) and, of course, the inimitable Tim Curry as our "sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania".
Upon its release in 1975, the film was an astounding flop. But a few devotees persuaded a New York cinema to show it at midnight, and thus was born one of the ultimate cult films of all time. The songs are addictive (just try getting "The Time Warp" or "Toucha Toucha Touch Me" out of your head), the raunchiness amusing and the plot line utterly ridiculous--in other words, this film is simply tremendous good fun. The downfall, however, is that much of the amusement is found in the audience participation that is obviously missing from a video version (viewers in cinemas shout lines at the screen and use props--such as holding up newspapers and shooting water guns during the storm and throwing rice during a wedding scene). Watched alone as a straight movie, Rocky Horror loses a tremendous amount of its charm. Yet, for those who wish to perfect their lip-synching techniques for movie cinema performances or for those who want to gather a crowd around the TV at home for some good, old-fashioned, rowdy fun, this film can't be beat. --Jenny Brown

Love it!!.......2007-08-26
Is it wrong that I remember watching Rocky Horror as a child and not finding anything at all strange about it?
How can you describe Rocky Horror? Ingenuis songs and music? Hugely likeable and amusing characters? Brilliant acting? I think it's a combination of them all.
I think Rocky Horror is a bit like marmite and I'm firmly in the 'love it' category. For those who aren't sure if they'd enjoy it, the plot is this.
Brad and Janet, two ordinary healthy kids, left Denton to visit a Dr Everett Scott. Along the way they have a blown tyre. They wander along the road looking for help and stumble upon an old castle. Janet, terrified, doesn't want to go any further. Brad, being the tought bloke insists they need to get to a phone and call for help.
The castle's inhabitants aren't what they expect and they are dragged into a world they would never have thought existed...
What can be said about the acting that hasn't been said. Tim Curry is fantastic in this part (and curiously attractive..and that's from a straight female!). His voice is superb, his facial expressions are hilarious and the sheer perfection of his lipstick application is something to behold. It's a shame he now distances himself from Rocky Horror as he feels he's been typecast as this is probably his best ever performance. Tim Curry is a true showman, and it's shown in Rocky.
The music in this film is not only ingenuis, but massively catchy. I love how it's got a rock undertone and unlike Grease (dare I say it!) it's not cheesy. While the sets aren't stunning, that doesn't matter. Rocky captures something else. I guess that's what makes it so special, it's impossible to know what makes grown men dress in drag to go to the theatre to see this 25 year on, but Rocky manages it effortlessly.
I guess a lot of people are freaked out by the notion of transvestytes and the bi-sexuality of Frank-n-Furter. I don't feel freaked out at all. In fact, Rocky makes me feel the same way Priscilla Queen of the Desert makes me feel. You just want to shed your inhibitions and say 'to hell with it!'
This film is just something else. I've been brought up on it's music, themes and general outragousness. Rocky also creates an open minded view about a lot of aspects in our society that we shun, or try and distance ourselves from. Despite Frank-n-Furter's actions, I felt sorry for him in the end. The thing is, we never actually know if he's good or bad. He just seems lost, and in a way it's tragic.
A fantastic film, which will very probably make you sing along.
(Also, keep an eye out for the Crystal Dome when they do the castle shot. No doubt Richard O'Brien's inspiration for his other classic idea!)
CHICKEN CURRY OR TIM CURRY.......2007-07-28
A brilliantly funny and very different film. Love it or hate it, it cannot be denied that Tim Currys` acting is superb and what a lot of bottle to play such a controversial part. 10 out of 10 Tim 4 out of 5 for the movie. Judge for yourself but you must watch this film without prejudice or preconceptions, its` subject matter is not to be a factor in your decision.
Let's do the Time Warp again!.......2007-07-16
This is a great film, it has transvestites, ace dance moves, a Frankenstien sort of creation, it has lasers and everything. I strongly recommend that you buy this!!
A '70s classic.......2007-06-29
I saw Rocky Horror at Leicester Square the day after it opened in 1974 and it's remained a favourite. Sure it's dated, but that's exactly why it's so brilliant.
And I've been to enough fancy dress parties to know no man will ever look as good as Tim Curry in make-up and stockings!
So what if you're a sexually repressed accountant?.......2006-12-29
And yet, "Red Rob", in Shaun of the Dead (from the Spaced team) there is a discussion about dressing up as Frank (it's particularly in the out-takes). Don't let your opinions be formed by others, that is one of the themes in Rocky Horror. Although Spaced is pure class and I can't believe it's now so old. It's ok to have your own opinions and mine is that Rocky Horror is true entertainment.

Rocky Horror ...yes/ Shock Treatment...no.......2007-12-24
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a classic, briliantly done & very entertaining.
I was therefore so disappointed with Shock Treatment...felt like turning it off after 20 minutes & wished I had by the end of the film!
Be warned............2006-06-12
Of course, we all know and love Rocky Horror, but what of Shock Treatment? Its new to DVD here but I have to warn you, the first time you watch it, you may not like it. It is disappointing after the brilliance of Rocky Horror but after watching Shock Treatment for the first time, there is a little voice lodged in your head saying "why not try again?" I did and I found I enjoyed it a lot more the second time around. Although Jessica Harper's performance cannot and never will match Susan Sarandon's as Janet, this film is still worth a watch. Just don't give up on it.

Fantastic.......2008-01-05
This is an amazing boxset and a must-have for any Rocky Horror fan! It contains both the two disc DVD of the film as well as the sequel Shock Treatment. There are also lots of different and interesting collectables which complete the set. Fabulous!
Lets NNNOOOT do the time warp again!.......2007-06-26
while it may look great on paper and in pictures, this boxset is cheap and nasty in real life. its not worth it ..badly made ...and the extras arent that great compared to other boxsets for RHPS in the past.
Is way overpriced too! Usually 70P!
GOTTA HAVE IT!.......2006-05-18
A true Rocky Horror Fan must have this amazing boxset!
Shock Treatment have been unavailble for many years, this is a dream come true for me personally...
The Ultimate Rocky Horror Collection!.......2006-05-16
For every Rocky Horror Fan this is the ultimate collection! There's loads of extras in here like postcards and stills and the lip box packaging looks totally amazing.
There's also the inclusion of Shock Treatment which is the Rocky Horror Sequel and has never been on DVD before.
The film is as great as ever but looks even better on the DVD shelf in this fabulous package. Ten out of Ten all round.

It's ok to have your own opinions and mine is that Rocky Horror is true entertainment.

Bizarrely excellent.......2005-10-23
On first watching this I was surprised, amused and a little horrified to be honest. Since watching it that first time it has risen in my estimations rapidly, and now when I think of it I start smiling.
It is one of the strangest films you will come across, no doubt; but the bizarre, weird, transexual and wonderful world of the rocky horror show win you over I'm sure, sooner or later!
Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon have major roles in this film, originally slated by critics. They both put in good performances and are supported wildly from all directions.
The songs take up a good part of this, and are fantastic. 'Time Warp', 'Sweet Transvestite' and 'Hot Patootie' now feature on my own music collection (under bizarre rock!), and the appearance of Meatloaf for 'Hot Patootie' is another treat.
I suggest that buying this straight off before seeing it might not always be suitable considering the strange and, perhaps for some, worrying nature of this film, but it is definately a classic - in what genre though I have no idea!
One of my favourites, and I'm sure it will become a favourite of many to come.
