I've got both Joe Pass' Hot Licks DVDs (the other one is 'Solo Jazz Guitar') and I think this one is the best. Joe takes you through some variations on a 12 bar blues in G, giving out some useful concepts that enable you to take the ideas and run with them.

There's a sizable booklet of transcriptions, but, as mentioned by the other reviewer, there are mistakes in them. As well as notes placed on the wrong strings, there's at least one example where the transcription gets the notes right, but uses different fingerings than Joe does in the video. However, this really isn't worth worrying about too much, because if you've got your eyes and ears open you'll be able to sort out the mistakes easily.

Overall, this is a treat for jazz guitarists and is well worth picking up.

I just got this through the post this morning and have started looking through it. The DVD is of a great quality (in both audio and video), with of course Joe Pass making everything look much easier than it is! Fantastic playing and teaching on his part.

The only reason I didn't give this a 5 is because of the stupid mistakes on the transcription! You'd think they would have checked it before sending it to print, but apparently not.

For example. FIRST PAGE. 2 bars of stupid mistakes!

(the first is how it is printed, and the latter how it is CLEARLY played)

I know this is only a silly mistake, but its disappointing to find it on the first page, so it looks like I'll have to keep looking out for silly mistakes throughout!

BUT, all this aside. It IS still Joe Pass, doing what he does best - playing, and imparting his wisdom! I couldn't recommend this highly enough!
