Amazon.co.uk Review
Frivolous Lola is a spirited adult production that keeps very much to Italian director Tinto Brass' modus operandi of making light-hearted sex films with a European art house sensibility. The Lola of the title (played with gusto by Serena Grandi) is a flighty young woman, frustrated by her relationship with local baker's son Masetto. Her constant attempts to seduce him meet with little success, resulting in a passionate affair with her mother's lover, André. As with all of Brass' work, Frivolous Lola is an odd combination of European erotica and Carry On film--not helped by the clumsy English language dubbing and the somewhat bizarre appearance of Britain's own Patrick Mower. Aficionados of the director will also spot his primary fascination with a certain part of the female anatomy as Grandi's bottom dominates the shot at every possible opportunity.
On the DVD: Frivolous Lola on disc is digitally remastered, and the picture shows off the lushness of the Italian countryside, even though that was probably the last thing on the director's mind. Extras include an erotic photogallery and an interview with Tinto Brass himself, which does nothing to divert from the image of this man as something of an enigma in his chosen field. --Phil Udell

Old fashioned soft porn.......2007-03-30
I rented this video out of curiosity. Tha porn film industry seems to have developed a much harder edge since the eighties and has become increasingly tasteless. However, this film is much more in the tradition of the soft porn cinema of the seventies, with it's threadbare plot and inconsequential scenes designed to show off as much naked flesh as possible. There are clear comparisons to be drawn between Tinto Brass and the 70's doyen of this art form, Russ Meyer. The essential difference being Meyer's fascination with implausibly gi-normous bosoms while Brass's preoccupation is with le derrier! This film is every bit as frivolous as it's title and is likely to appeal only to he more voyeuristic enthusiast. But I have to acknowledge that the leading lady certainly gave it her best shot and could not be faulted on enthusiasm.
art meets porn.......2007-02-13
Tito Bass makes the most beautiful adult films, this is exceptional. The young lady has an exquisit body and she comfortable showing it off.
I wouldn't consider this film porn but simply genuine admiration for sex and the femail form. Show your girl freind or wife and have an enjoyable time.
Very sexy movie.......2006-02-19
Tinto Brass makes the kind of movies I would make if I was an erotic film-maker and Frivolous Lola is no exception. Very sexy & naughty (of course - otherwise what would be the point?) but also classy, humourous, silly, old fashioned, easy going, quite tasteful, etc.
And top marks for having, of all people, Target/Emmerdale/Carry On England actor Patrick Mower in it as well - I certainly wasn't expecting that! I applaud him for making such an artistic decision to appear in a movie of this nature. (Actually that probably sounded pretty sarcastic but wasn't intended!)
I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who considers themselves to be a connoisseur of erotica.
Safe Sex.......2003-02-25
Frivolous Lola is a seventies soft porn movie that was made in the late nineties. I enjoy it's naevity. It is charming and has a kind of innocence. Tinto Brass appears to have an obsession with bottoms and the sexual scenes are voyeurish in a school boy fashion. Because of this, though there are scenes that are not politically correct, I find it hard to be offended by this film. It is very soft core pornography for those who appreciate such things. It has more in common with Emmanuelle than Debbie Does Dallas. A worthy addition to the collection and I, personally, will be checking out more Tinto Brass.
Frivolous but Fun.......2002-09-27
This is an entertaining film from Tinto Brass and probably the best one I've seen so far. It is my experience that Brass normally has an attention span of about 10 to 15 minutes. In that he works with short episodes in a film rather than carrying a strong theme throughout. 'Lola' is an exception, for me anyway and I will happily accept correction for more avid Brass fans.
It follows the exploits of a girl before she settles down. It seems the thought of marriage and such like spurs her into a series of mild adventures with just about any male in the near vicinity. She also has a beau who is somewhat preturbed by her fun loving nature and this, as you may imagine, causes friction between the pair.
However, there is a slightly more serious element in the film when it comes to her relationship with her step-father or indeed he may be her father! Her mother is non too pleased about this. I'll say no more in this regard and let story unwind itself for the viewer.
Overall and enjoyable and mainly light hearted film, probably worth a look.

Excellent Bio!.......2006-05-03
A fantastically well-written T.V mini series that explores the troubled lives of each of The Temptations and their rise and fall on the music scene. The Temptations were one of Motowns hottest and most versatile acts with their carefully prepared chorography on stage and their diverse range of shimmering harmonies on record.
An interesting aspect of the series early sequences are when they are first introduced to Motown Records. It's fun to see portrayals of the great Motown legends such as Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Martha Reeves.
Interestingly enough Diana Ross' daughter, Rhonda Ross makes an apperance in the film, playing the wife of the troubled Paul Williams (Paul Williams had actually recommended to Florence Ballard in 1959 that Diana Ross become a member of The Primettes who were the "sister" group to The Primes - who of course went on to be The Temptations and The Primetes became The Supremes).
The emotionally moving sequences where the group are seen up on stage performing the classic, Papa Was A Rolling Stone and Paul Williams is about to shoot himself are sure to get a lump in your throat and you'll be reaching for the hankies at the funeral scene, where incidentally Smokey Robinson himself appears.
The series also carefully chronicles David Ruffins fall from grace as he steadily declined into cocaine addiction and also continually mentally and physically tortured his wife, Tammi Terrell.
The ending sees the group re-united when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in the late 80's.
The performances are all excellent, the 60's ambience such as the nightclubs and drug culture are superbly evoked and the stage performances are mastered to perfection. Impressive!
GREAT BIO PIC..........2006-03-06
This is a lengthy, made for television, feature film that runs nearly three hours. The time will zoom by, as this is an engaging, well-acted production about one of Motown's earliest successes, "The Temptations". The story of this group is told primarily through the eyes of Otis Williams, one of its founding fathers and the true linchpin of the group, as well as its last surviving member. The film details the group's struggle for success from its down and out early days to the pinnacle of success and its induction eventual into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The songs that propelled "The Temptations" to stardom are capably lip-synched by its talented cast. The viewer sees the beginning of the group in the nineteen fifties and its subsequent rise to fame and fortune. After being signed up by Motown, the future of "The Temptations" was almost assured, given the resources that Motown's music mogul, Barry Gordy, allotted to their development. Once they were a success, crossover was inevitable for such a talented group, and "The Temptations" became a huge hit in mainstream America.
The film details the personal highs and lows of the individual members of the group. Alcoholism, drug use, egotism, and other personal travails would plague its members and, consequently, the group. At times, the group would appear to be on the verge of a total split, especially when its cocaine craving, lead singer, David Ruffin, began making ego fueled demands. Still, the temptations endured, because no one member was bigger than the group. They began as a group, and it is the group that would endure. Though individual members would come and go, the group itself always remained "The Temptations".
This is an excellent bio pic with great music. It is a film that is worthy of being in one's personal collection.
the not so true story.......2004-08-20
billed as a true story from "otis williams" point of view a true motown fan will spot the error's in this dvd ,but dont let that put you off it is an exellent film with a great soundtrack that you should all know if not where have you been!,also at this price a bargin ...
The Temptations [2000].......2004-03-15
There are very few biopic films that leave you with a feeling of understanding and appreciation of what it was really like to have been there but this film certainly gives you that feeling. An insight of what really made the temptations the biggest soul group of all time, the experience of the early days at Motown and what it meant to be a Temptation. Buy this and watch it over and over again, a piece of pure music histoey
Brilliant Reconstruction of the Temps Legacy.......2002-11-07
If you're a Temptations fan then you're going to find this DVD an essential addition to your collection. The singing is amazing and on covers of early tracks such as 'Paradise,' actually sounds better than the original version, the choreography is so good that you almost start to believe that the spirits of the original members have replaced the souls of the actors for added realism.
Although it would be impossible to chart every significant step in the life of a group that has been in existence since the fifties, (for example sometimes band members disappear and are replaced with no real explanation) the entertainment value is great and we have Otis' book for a more in depth examination of band events.
Motown fans get your money ready, after viewing this DVD you'll fall in love with the Temps all over again
