Best Music DVD I Have Heard So Far.......2007-02-27

I echo all the other reviews of this DVD. In DTS sound it is superb. It is a pity their other DVD,s have not been recorded like this one. Dancing cowgirls a bit naff but you can put up with that.

I wrote the title of this review and then suddenly found myself at a loss to elaborate.

Ok, I've recovered now :-). This band should play "unplugged" all the time! It clearly gives them the ability to concentrate on the sound production to a degree that other bands would be wise to emulate. It used to be that Queen were slagged off for perfectionism (who were these philistines?). But like another reviewer here says: successful Rock Bands get paid a lot, so they really have no excuse for anything less than perfection. However, in Acoustica, the Scorpions make Live Queen sound "rough-and-ready" and set a new standard. I suspect that even the band would agree that a large part of the credit for this should actually go to the production team: excellent clear sound; well balanced mix and superb image quality all work together to make watching the DVD a repeatable pleasure. I've seen this band on another live DVD and absolutely hated it - musically and visually. This production, however, is almost like watching a different band. If you were uncertain about the Scorpions before and haven't seen this DVD, then at least rent it before you rule them out. Incidentally, the best way to play this is in "continuous music" mode, which neatly puts all the songs close together like on a CD, skipping the boring audience-only bits: a clever use of the DVD playback option-technology that this superb production team have used. Like I said: sheer professionalism in every aspect.

I have every c/d also dvd`s, this I think is the best, don`t be fooled it is all accoustic but at the same time it is excellent. The concert is filmed in portugal in an fab arena.....

never heard of this group till somebody gave dvd to me for xmas
last year, I must have watch this 25 times or more since,this is
music @ it very best they are brilliant.

When I bougt the cd "acoustica" i cudn't believe how awesome it was. I consider myself a medium Scorpion fan, having 13 of their albums and having seen them play live. So the cd struck me cos the band clearly had evolved to being a more complete band in every aspect. And the album was just amazing. TILL...I discovered this dvd. (U wudn't believe how I've gotten hold of it). I watched it. And...the dvd is even better. Of course the cd has the same songs (not all of them) on it as the dvd. But having heard the cd first and then the dvd i can honestly say: the dvd is even better. Watching them play. Putting their heart and soul into this performance (only Rudolf seems at time a lil worn out), great venue, great song selection, great lights, great musicians joining the band,....just a perfect 10 all the way. The songs they cover ain't just trying to play other one's songs: they're giving them that little extra. Only downside to it is the visual performance of the dancers they're adding to it. e.g. tease me please me. (if i'm not mistaken). This is not only a must have for every Scorpions fan, this is a great piece of art for any music lover.

fantastic comedy collection.......2007-03-04

after watching it and it had me in fits of laughter, the only disappointment is that there is no rising damp christmas special where did it go and will it be release at a later date. hopefully?

Sitcom was never ITV's strong point, and I only enjoyed about a third of these programmes. But then again, never mind the quality, feel the width. You do get an awful lot (but with absolutely no extras), and so if you can get it cheap enough, it's worth it. I enjoyed The Rag Trade and Watching, and I was surprised to find myself enjoying Billy Liar and even Two's Company (and I could never stand Elaine Stritch). Some of the low points on this collection are All this and Christmas Too, My Husband and I, and, sad to say, the Stanley Baxter Christmas Collection. The humour is often laboured and can make you cringe, so it's best to watch it on your own without the kids sneering at it because they're used to stuff like Catherine Tate. The black and white episodes are Please Sir, On the Buses, the Army Game and George and the Dragon. All the programmes have their ad bumpers and idents, which is nice if you remember channels like LWT or Yorkshire.

How anyone could not settle down to this in the run-up to Christmas and feel full of festive joy is beyond me. It is funny, nostalgic, cosy and just what your dad needs in his stocking.

Unless you really need to have footage of your favourite show's Christmas edition, think twice before buying this DVD. A very poor selection of festive programmes that rarely raised a laugh. Only "On the Buses" was remotely humorous I am sure there are far better programmes and episodes available in the ITV vaults.

If you put together all of celine dion's best songs and performances of them on one cd then you would have the best song collection in existence.
This dvd set has many of the best songs - the concert from Paris is very impressive and you will hear fans raving about how unbelievably good it was (the power of her voice,the variety of ballads in french and english, even Celine's ability to copy musical instruments with ther voice)- but the concert from Paris,good as it was,was already at a point in celine's career where she had sung most of her best pieces.Celine Dion didn't speak english until she was 21 years old and it was when she was bathed entirely in French-Canadian culture in the years leading up to this time,that she was singing her best material on albums such as Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi,The French Love Album and Des Mots Qui Sonnent.No concert performance can convey to you the sheer beauty and drama of these three albums but the concert from Paris does feature one of her finest performances "Quand on n'a que l'amour".You can't argue with the value for money of this dvd set because of the number and quality of the songs on offer.But to appreciate Celine Dion fully you have to hear her singing in French without interruption from her english language songs.Because Celine like so many singers sounds best in her own language and mixing the languages creates an atmosphere that is neither one thing nor the other.
