Norah Jones Live in New Orleans provides further reasons why many are claiming that she is the new Nina Simone. In the space of a few months her critically acclaimed debut album Come Away with Me sold millions of copies worldwide, spurred on by her phenomenal success at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards and word-of-mouth recommendations.Recorded in August 2002 at the House of Blues in New Orleans, the concert provides an intimate, if somewhat brief showcase of a performer on the verge of the big time. Accompanied by "Her Very Handsome Band" Norah swiftly performs the favourites from the album ("Don't Know Why" and "Lonestar") as well as other material such as "Something is Calling You" and "Bessie Smith".
While many may associate Jones's music with either leisurely moments slumbering in coffee lounges, or as the soundtrack to suburban dinner parties, as the catcalls and screams between songs suggest, her music (and sex appeal) is stimulating the middle classes in previously unimaginable ways. As she moves into stadium concert performer league, perhaps this DVD will be the only opportunity for many to witness the "queen of easy-listening" in a truly intimate and live setting.
On The DVD: Norah Jones Live in New Orleans includes a rich Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround soundtrack, which successfully reproduces Jones's stunning vocals. While the picture quality is glossy and colourful, the visual material is limited due to the handful of cameras recording the show. Also included is the promo for the track "Come Away with Me". --John Galilee

terrific singing, great atmosphere and brilliant musicians.......2006-08-01
good concert DVD - lesser known songs make it a buy !!.......2004-03-11
I disagree with some of the other reviewers that the video production is boring. I personally prefer to watch how the musicians are playing their instruments rather than watch a blinding laser show and a load of strange camera angles and colours. This concert is simply 4 musicians on a small stage and the video production reflects the honesty of the performance.
Some of the performances of songs off Come Away With Me are pretty average in my opinion, but the real gems on this DVD are the songs that some fans who discovered Norah through her last album might not have, in particular her version of Bessie Smith, the bluesy Comes Love and the final song, Tennessee Waltz.
A good buy.

A mesmerising, subtle performance.........2004-02-05
In terms of her music I find this performance even better than the album, with some other great songs thrown in for good measure. Her rendition of Joni Mitchell's 'Nothing can be done' is fantastic! In my opinion, dare I say it, better than the original..
If you like Norah's music and want to see her in a live performance, you will not be disappointed by this DVD.

Norah Jones's growth as a performing artist since she burst on the scene in 2002 is apparent on Norah Jones and the Handsome Band: Live in 2004, her second concert DVD following Live in New Orleans, released in 2003. The gifted singer-pianist-songwriter is still something of a reluctant headliner; personable if not exactly effusive (and seemingly bemused by the adulation), she's self-effacing and winningly unpretentious onstage. That goes for the music as well, as Jones and her empathetic band (now including guitarist Robbie McIntosh, formerly of the Pretenders and Paul McCartney's band) put on a tasteful, understated show at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. Songs from her second CD, Feels Like Home, are favored, along with a version of the Grammy-winning "Don't Know Why" that's received with near-reverence by the audience. Jones's choice of cover material, including tunes by John Prine ("That's the Way the World Goes 'Round"), Tom Waits ("The Long Way Home"), and Gram Parsons ("She," which is among the several bonus tracks; other extras include two videos and three "mini-documentaries"), is also admirable, but it's when her various guests show up that the show approaches genuine transcendence. Among them are Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, who harmonize beautifully with Jones on Townes Van Zandt's "Loretta", and the indefatigable Dolly Parton, whose duet with Jones on bassist Lee Alexander's bluegrass-flavored "Creepin' In" is the undisputed highlight of the show. Radiant, ebullient, and in great voice, Parton is a star, and Norah defers to her accordingly. The only problem comes when Jones and company have to pick up where Parton left off, and in truth, it takes them a while to recover. --Sam GrahamCustomer Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
This 1930 drama was an early field day for Alfred Hitchcock and his evolving ideas about the blurring of opposites: reality and illusion, guilt and innocence, observing and doing, men and women. A rare whodunit in the director's canon, the story of Murder finds a stage actress (Norah Baring) convicted of murdering a female friend. Herbert Marshall stars as a veteran theatre actor and, coincidentally, member of the jury who has grave doubts about the verdict and decides to investigate the crime on his own. His efforts lead him through a world with which he is sufficiently familiar--that of backstage intrigues--and toward what some critics have charged is an unfortunate link between villainy and a gay stereotype. But that limited critique completely misses the playful overlapping of faulty perceptions invited by this movie, in which Hitchcock deliberately confuses us at times about whether the action we're seeing is real or occurring on a stage. Even when the distinction is obvious, thematic echoes bounce wildly between the two, such as an early scene in which policemen observing a play don't realise the solution to the real murder is weirdly foretold in what they're watching. --Tom KeoghCustomer Reviews:
