5 out of 5 stars Old School Cool.......2007-09-25

I can't add much in detail to the other review. I have to say, what a great purchase...its rare that I will describe hairy old hippies as having beautiful voices, but these 3 are top notch. If you are into the CSN albums as I am, get this box set, you won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars "Long Time Comin'" indeed.......2005-02-02

Daylight Again:-
This is a recording of a concert they gave at the Universal Ampitheatre in Los Angeles in 1983, and if you're concerned that the performance won't be up to the standard of their late 60's/early 70's heyday then you have no need to worry.
The concert is a good mix of old material (Wooden Ships, Suite:Judy Blue Eyes, You Don't Have To Cry, etc.) and, at the time, fairly recent stuff (Dark Star, Tree Top Flyer, Wasted On The Way, etc.). CSN's vocal harmonies are excellent with some surprisingly good guitar work from Stills (didn't realise he was that good!) & ably assisted by a tight & well rehearsed backing band.
The only slight blot on the landscape is that it's quite evident that Crosby had been sampling some rather fine Jamaican vegetation before the show, so consequently he's rather 'dazed'. Although, he pulls off a nice version of 'Delta' on the piano & doesn't 'nod off' as he once famously did while in court one time.(He's bright eyed & bushy tailed on the 'Acoustic Concert' DVD if you're wondering).
As a previous reviewer stated, sound(5.1) & picture quality is excellent throughout (don't forget this is 22 years old) & you'll be pleased to learn that the disc is 105/110 minutes long and not about 80 minutes as stated on the packaging.
The Acoustic Concert:-
Recorded at The Warfield Theatre in San Francisco in 1991 & has a good mix of old & new material. Crosby is thankfully in fine form (see 'Daylight Again' review) and Nash & Stills are good throughout - even though Stills sometimes uses an electric guitar, so it's not completely acoustic.
The harmonies on 'Daylight Again' are just a shade better than the ones here although nothing to be ashamed of either. Crosby being 'compos mentis' more than compensates for this - his duet with Nash on 'Guinnevere' gives the original a run for it's money - it's that good. Nash's 'Try To Find Me' & 'Our House' are other memorable tracks.
Nice intimate concert - somebody brought in their house plants to adorn the stage & simple but effective backdrops are used. If you can't catch Nash & Crosby on tour in the UK in Feb.'05 then this is a very adequate consolation.
Long Time Comin:-
Competent 1 hour documentary on history of CSN originally from 1990. Interesting footage both live & behind the scenes. Excellent peformance of '4+20' by Stills on US TV show (spur of the moment?) while being watched by Jefferson Airplane. You also get to see Stills, in someone's house, lose his temper with Crosby who nonchalantly lies in a hammock throughout.
Some of Crosby's quotes from the time are a bit cringe worthy but generally fine overview that could have been improved if the running time had been longer so you don't get the feeling that the producers are trying to squeeze everything into one hour. With the DVD format extras could easily have been added but if you're buying this as part of the box set it's a good deal with the other two discs.
Overall a good box set. Some extras would have given it 5 stars.

The DVD presents some drills that are quite good
A disappointment is that there is no drills for "hitting up on the ball" that Harold Swash talks about. I believe there is quite a distinct move you have to do to putt like Harold wants us to.
