Amazon.co.uk Review

Kylie's back with Fever--Live in Manchester and both the budget and the bangles are bigger than 2001's Live in Sydney. This is very much a new-wave pop concert, combining the best in visual imaging, storytelling and costume design. We are offered a range of stunning Kylie-personas, from Metropolis Queen (an ingenious mechanical silver costume) for the opening "Come into My World", to Clockwork Orange-style aggression for "Spinning Around" and a hip hop-infused policewoman for "Confide in Me". Most impressive are "GBI", a stunning piece of avant-garde Japanese pop, and the electro-clash section for "Light Years". (Unfortunately there's little she can do with "Lucky", since the original is imprinted on our brains forever!)

Take note, all pop star wannabes: part of Kylie's success can be attributed to her refusal to mime, and her concerts are all the better for it. The other part can be seen in the canny way she has surrounded herself with the best in the business, from her stylist to her choreographer to her stage director. If that's not enough, her stage persona is a knockout too. She easily commands the audience's attention and, despite her diminutive size, dominates the hugely elaborate set that combines stairs and movable video projections. This is as much a piece of performance art as it is a big-budget pop concert. It appears that audiences are now ready for the grown-up Kylie she wanted to give the world nearly 10 years ago.

On the DVD: Kylie: Fever's special feature on the stage projections is a little dull out of context but hypnotic nonetheless: it's ideal for playing on a loop at a party! The digital programme presents the story behind each look and chapter of the concert and the documentary doesn't just focus on the lady herself, but diverts to look at the logistics and problems in creating such a visually stunning show. As you would expect from such a mixed-media production, the sound and visuals are pristine. --Nikki Disney

3 out of 5 stars No Fever, just luke warm........2007-11-08

I was actually at the show that was filmed for this DVD, and wanted to recapture the memories of the performance. All in all the show was satisfying, with music from all 3 of Kylie's record labels. Kylie interacted with the crowd brilliantly and brought the roof down with her bum wiggle!!

However, his DVD fails to satisfy; I personally think it's the worst one from Kylie. But viewers can make up your own minds about that.

So let's take a walk down memory lane and look back on the good, the bad & the ugly (the costumes)...

Let's start with the positives:

Kylie's rendition of classic hit `Shocked' is the best live performance of this song she's ever done.

The ballad section is amazing. `The Crying Game', `Put Yourself In My Place' and `Finer Feelings' allow Kylie to show us how much her vocals have improved over the years. With a simple backdrop and no dancers the focus is on her. Sometimes simple is best.

`Confide In Me' is one of Kylie's best songs, and I loved the dancier mix. The song's intro is killer.

The Latin Section is interesting. In Your Eyes' and `Please Stay' is in a medley together with Gloria Estifan's classic `Rhythm Of The Night'. I don't rate either Kylie single too highly, so the lively performance added some passion to it.

Her encore started with non-single `Burning Up'. Fantastic song should have been a single. I also loved her entrance for this one. Very well done.

Her final song was the New order's `Blue Monday' bootleg of her massive single 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'. I used to love the original version, but it has been wildly overplayed, so I really loved the fresher mix.

Unfortunately, I do have some negatives to feedback:

Actually at the concert the music was so loud, that at times you didn't even know what Kylie was singing. The sound on the DVD has been improved. But is still poor compared to Kylie's other concert DVDs.

The constantly changing camera angles are quite nauseating. Let's have Kylie centre stage. then cut away to zoom in on a dancer, spin out over the audience, back to Kylie - from the left side. It gets very annoying.

Also annoying is having little icons superimposed over concert footage. Distracting.

Remember Australia only single COWBOY STYLE? Thought not. How about non-single LIMBO? The Japanese 'hit' GBI? I suppose it's nice to cater to us fanatics who acually know these songs, but the casual viewer will be bored & hitting the `forward' button.

While it has no bearing on the actual performance, the costumes - aside from the Clockwork Orange' bit - were disappointing.

Also disappointing was the stage and backdrops. Not a major thing, but it lessened the impact of the show to me.

Last gripe - the dancers routines were quite boring. Normally, your head would be bopping side to side to try and take everything in. Not here. We still love `Manchester Boy' though.

5 out of 5 stars What An Entrance.......2007-01-17

I've never really grown up as a Kylie fan, not a bit into her Stock Aitken and Waterman years back in the day, but from "Spinning Around" where she amazed us all in her gold hot pants I've been hooked on her, and her material just keeps getting better and better.

Having just seen the Showgirl tour Live in London, which was an absolutely fantastic spectacle, I thought I'd have a look at her previous tour video - Fever. I remember trying to get tickets to that show in Manchester, but they had sold out so quickly I never managed it.

The intro to this video brought tears to my eyes and made all of my hairs on my arms and neck stand up. It is an immensely powerful intro and entrance - you can't help but to fall instantly in love with Kylie when she comes up from the floor in her robot costume. She looks incredible. The video is worth it for this alone, but in fact, this standard is kept up throughout the show.

If you only ever plan to own one concert DVD in your entire life by any artist, this should be a contender.

5 out of 5 stars This is the show that made me a Kylie fan.......2006-02-11

If it wasn't for this show i wouldn't be a Kylie fan, i saw it on TV then bought the DVD because I was absolutely amazed by it. I wish I had seen Kylie live for this Fever tour because it is out of this world. I have seen Showgirl tour live and Kylie was brilliant in that, she sang with a powerful voice and it was completely live like all of Kylie's tours. The Fever shows sold out in record time and broke records in the major arenas but for Showgirl Kylie broke even more arenas' records topping her own record as best selling female tour and breaking some of the records still held by the fever tour. Fever is a fantastic show visually and vocally and i absolutely recommend it to everyone even if you are not a Kylie fan because you will be converted.

5 out of 5 stars Feel The Fever!.......2005-01-17

I was a huge pop fan and after the Steps, S Club 7 and Spice Girls tours I couldnt see how they could be beaten. Kylie obviously did. Hands down, the best music concert I have ever seen.
Only 2 album tracks off Fever and it is still amazing. If you love the album (which you should), you may be expecting more album tracks, but dont let it get you down. The concert rocks.

Kylie enters in a skimpy sexy silver number with the rocking Come Into My World. She moves into Shocked amazingly and brings the house down. The fan fav Love At First Sight is next with Fever rounding off the Set. The whole theme is space and technology and is excellent. The dancing is excellent and basically it is great.
She moves into Spinning Around with the whole Clockwork Orange theme. The musical arrangement is different but great.
The next bit and one of the highlights is the Crying Game. The songs "The Crying Game" "Put Yourself In My Place" " Finer Feelings" and "Dangerous Game" are merged into a 9 minute medley. When i heard it i was so shocked at Kylie's vocals. I knew she could sing but not like this. Beautiful.
The next track is her rare collaboration GBI. Although she doesnt appear on stage it is great to hear such a weird song. She then returns with a street version of Confide In Me. The acrobat is amazing and the extended rockier version well, rocks! She moves into the IP album track Cowboy Style. Nice little dance routine, tonnes of dancers....hang on, the arrangement is 10 times better. And i love the original! Much harder and fiercer but danceable. I love it. She moves into Kids and does the business and finishes off the set.
The Sex In Venice set comes next with a naughty routine to go with On A Night Like This. She then does a classic, The Loco Motion Rnb Stylee. It is great and so sexy. She finishes off with In Your Eyes/Please Stay latin medley which is also great.
The next set is Cybertronica. Neon lights etc mixed with I Should Be So Lucky, Light Years/I Feel love and my fav performance of the night, LIMBO! It is amazing.
She returns with a mellower track, Burning Up and finishes with Better The Devil You Know. Or does she?
She returns to the stage for CGYOOMH. She is on her own all through the track and to be honest i felt it could have ended in a much bigger fashion. The first 26 tracks rocked so we can let her off as CGYOOMH is a great track.
OK. Bye it. Enjoy. You'll love it

5 out of 5 stars Tiny Kylie, massive show!.......2004-04-29

You can't help but hold your breath as the lights go down and the Feverhots up!
Kylie appears through the smoke from the floor, decked out in a sci-fiinspired costume complete with helmet. As she stands facing the audienceyou can feel her gaining power from the screaming crowd, and that's it -you are hooked.
Those first words 'Come, come...come in my world' make the hairs on theback of your neck stand upright and they do not go down until she says herfinal goodbye.
The show is filled to the brim with songs old, new and borrowed! It's anabsolute gay festival on that stage, big colours gorgeous dancers andenough energy to power the world for a night!
I was lucky enough to get to go to the show and have to say that the DVDreally is just as good as being there in person, well, almost. BUY IT.
