Great Stuff.......2007-02-03
Watched this last night and my first reaction was the quality of the soundtrack. Excellent - and that's what matters the most with a music DVD.
Secondly, I can't believe just how good a voice Fish had in those days. Having just watched his DVD from 2005 (Return to Childhood) where he was all over the place vocally, this is a treasure indeed.
Lastly, although the musicianship of all involved was exemplary, you can't help feeling that Fish was totally the creative force and charisma behind Marillion as the other band members look far to dull and serious (and still do) which explains why the camera is 90% of the time focused on the lead singer.
Marillion died after Fish left as far as i'm concerned, and this is a great DVD to remind you of a time that they were in their creative ascendency. Check out "Live from Lorelei" on DVD aswell if you to want to hear music from the other three Fish/Marillion albums played live or even if you just want to see how much weight a rock star can put on in four years!
Oh yeah, and if anyone can explain the significance of the rubber plant, please let me know.
Fabulous grease-painted, fish flavoured stuff!.......2003-09-20
This really took me back! A live concert of Marillion when they were fantastic! All look very young and fresh-faced and on the brink of stardom live at the Hammersmith Odeon. Fish (Marillion's then lead singer) still has a head full of hair and the band really look to be enjoying themselves. They tear through all the tracks off their first and best album 'Script for a jester's tear'. We are also treated to some extra tracks, Grendel (all 17 mins of it, complete with a somewhat Peter Gabriel-esque mask) and some other rare footage of the band, same period from the Marquee club in London. Things to watch out for are Fish's attack on a rubber plant (yes that's right, a rubber plant), more prog rock widdley widdley keyboard solos than you could shake a stick at and an all round good show. Fab retro stuff, something you'll look at again and again and again. I have for years, this is just to replace my VHS copy which is now past it!
Back to the old days.......2003-09-16
This is a souvenir for those out there who still dream about Fish dressing up like a dragon and thus bringing an entire audiance in a trance. It all looks hopelesly old-fashioned but the music is not to be missed. Old fans as well as new ones will like this.
