Good, but..........2004-03-17
This is a good dvd, but I would suggest the Greatest Videos Compilation as a better purchase. If you already have the Greatest Videos, and want more, then get this.
Having said that, I must say that this dvd covers all the Pumpkins eras (up to Darcy's departure) admirably. The quality varies, but is mostly more than acceptible. The extras are so-so. But, if you want the Pumpkins live, this is the way to go. A little expensive perhaps?
Wow!.......2004-02-18
The smashing pumpkins are actually my favourite band ever ever, so this review may be a little biased but this is an excellent dvd. although it is not really dvd quality due to the time during which it was filmed, the sound is excellent - which just goes to show how good the band sounds. The dvd contains 10 live performances, my favourites of which are a super fast Silverf*ck, with the incredible jimmy chamberlin giving his best, and the amazing summery, chilled out acoustic Mayonaise. In additon there is a whole concert from '94 to watch, including many favourite songs. unfortunately the quality of this is not too great since the tapes were lost for years (hence "lost '94 Tapes"), but it is still great to see a whole show - especially for somebody who never saw the pumpkins play live. This dvd may have limited appeal for les avid fans of the band and for them i would recommend the greatest hits video collecton dvd, but for those of you like me, all i can say is that i wish there were a dvd of more recent performances - the latest of these being 94, just before the pumpkins went huge. If you like the pumpkins, buy it. Its a really good experience.
SPs live. Need I say more?.......2003-05-23
Taken from the early years of the band, this DVD is an enhanced version of the VHS, and let me tell you, is quite simply essential. For somebody who never saw the band live, I value every piece of live stuff I can get my hands on, from any videos to live cds, and this is an essential purchase for any fan. Kicking off with the ever explosive Quiet, the DVD takes you on a journey through tracks from Gish and Siamese Dream I Am One. Through a brilliant Today, rocky Disarm, the ever great Geek USA, a lovely acoustic Cherub Rock, and Mayonaise in a London park, the DVD is packed full of classics, with Soma being another high point, performed live in London. I can't really think of any other track that would be so quite astounding live, and this does not disappoint. 14 minutes long, performed live in London, this is an astounding version of the hidden classic, extended to euphoric heights of guitar and drum perfection, and if you ask me, combined with a goose bump inducing Today and Soma, and the hilarious (Japanese) video of Slunk, worth the admission price easily.
Of course, the tracks available arn't the only things, oh no. In between every track are small little clips of the Pumpkins at play, and an extended one at the end, with the epic Why Am I So Tired? playing over it. Brilliant stuff. Then, as a DVD addition, the Lost 94 tapes are included, with an entire gig for you to watch as well as The Unbearable Likeness Of Manny with James Iha being massaged. Great. Anyway, all the extras are suitably Pumpkinsy, and the live gig is extremely valuable too.
I can only hope they do another one, for their later albums. Quite simply astounding, and a priceless item for any true Pumpkins fan. You know what I mean.
the standard is set.......2003-04-29
This excellent DVD brings a great set of performances by the Smashing Pumpkins in the days of Siamese Dream. If you like the album (siamese dream) you will definitely like this DVD. Most of the performances come with excellent sound, actually only a single performance for japanese television has lower quality than the rest, so this is not a big issue. Inbetween the performances are sort-of-"behind-the-scenes" clips and 'home-videos' shot by the band which do give an excellent insight in the deviant minds of the bandmembers (it would have been great if these could be automatically skipped (once you've seen them once)... but unfortunately there's no option for this). Furthermore the DVD contains a live show of the band of almost and hour in length, but I must admit I haven't yet taken the time to watch it.
This DVD is a perfect addition to your collection and I sincerely hope DVDs like this one will be released containing material from later albums, soon!
The vhs was superb, this is better!.......2002-12-09
Well, the vhs version has some of the best early live performences of the band. Mainly filmed around the release of siamese dream. A stunning performance of Today and an excellent hard version of disarm are priceless. The new dvd has some extra off stage footage and 2 more additional performances, not on the vhs. Also the digital sound and picture quality are an additional bonus. If you like the pumpkins, this is worth getting even if you have the vhs, if you love the pumpkins- you have to get this.

Avoid the region 1 DVD.......2004-06-04
I just want to share a little caveat here, AVOID the region 1 Vieuphoria and settle for the region 2. I bought one of the first region 1 copies and the thing is (you won't believe it!) censured on certain words, meaning that whenever Billy says the s- or f-word there will be a pause of silence, disrupting the flow of the music. To be honest, I was flabbergasted by Virgin's decision to completely ruin a great viewing and listening experience through patronizing moralism. 'Old Europe' nevertheless seems to have the uncensored version. Don't waste your money on a region 1 disc.
