One Blue Voice is a superb snapshot of a manificent singer at her very best. Alison Moyet shows here what is possible with her voice - to make it in to an instrument in its own right. Her control of the music is a pleasure to hear, particularly on God Give Me Strength, Almost Blue and the spine tingling rendition of Melanie's Momma Momma.
Ms Moyet also shows enormous respect to her fellow musicians by quietly moving to the side of the set during the periods where the other instruments take centre stage. No stage hog here, unlike some of the far less talented divas around.
Anyone who enjoys real music will enjoy this DVD. If you though she was good on record you won't believe how stunning she is live.

What more can be said about Alison Moyet that hasn't already been said? Everyone knows she's Britain's finest voice. Everyone knows she was one of the major players of the 80s but then strangely fell out of favour with the record buying public as a whole and also her cloth-eared old record company (Sony, of course...).... but whatever happened to Alf after all this?

The faithful, and obviously many casual observers, are aware that she released her career masterpiece a few years ago, the stunning 'Hometime' and that she returned to the top 10 recently with her album 'Voice'..... so it may surprise some that 'One Blue Voice' is her first live DVD.

Recorded earlier this year in Covent Garden, One Blue Voice sees a singer at the peak of her powers. Looking poised, relaxed and totally non-plussed by the whole thing, Ms Moyet hits every spot here. Accompanied by a 3-piece string section, a drummer, bass player and a fantastic pianist, this is the way these songs were meant to be heard - in a live, intimate setting with the lights down low.

As ever, she's vocally spot-on, even when dealing with difficult material (ask any singer and they'll tell you what a bum Windmills of Your Mind is to sing.... Moyet doesn't bat a gorgeous fake eyelash).

You'll get goosebumps throughout. Purcell's 'Dido's Lament' is stunning, and her renditions of Alfie, Cry Me A River and Elvis Costello's Almost Blue are as good, if not better, than the originals.

The extras on the DVD are worth the entry fee alone - among others you get a stripped-down, no nonsense version of That Ole Devil Called Love but the warm, beautiful version of Yazoo's 'Only You' is simply breathtaking. There's also an interview with the lady herself explaining the show and song choice, the promo for the slinky 'More' single (from Hometime) and a photo gallery.
