original, entertaining, and very very good .......2007-12-18
This could only happen in Germany. A long summer tour of performances in castles around Germany. Castles and Dreams is a celebration of music from this period, with the spectacular Ritchie Blackmore brilliantly playing just about every instrument he picks up, new and old. The charasmatic Candice Night is the perfect front for the vocals. The whole band work as a highly efficient team, which enjoy a huge cult following in Germany.
The style of the music, is at least 200 hundred years old, but is unberlievably entertaining. Of course, a little Deep Purple material creeps in near the end and don't the crowd love it.
If you think this is not your scene, fine. Most adults will find this very enjoyable and will probably seek to see the band live, when they tour over here. Check out the bonus DVD, and all will be explained by the man himself.
Sad end of an era.......2006-08-24
Even the audience don't seem to be enjoying this self indulgent and rather tedious incarnation of Blackmores work. If you loved Deep Purple and Rainbow don't sully your memories with this sad end to a great career.
Remember the girlfriend in Spinal Tap who became manager? Well this time she became lead singer! Instead of playing puppet shows, they're playing German village Fetes!
Watching this is a truly gutting experience, so much so it's hard to put into words how disappointing it really is. Lame and uninspired, falling broken between the rock and jester camps.
Awful.... avoid......
Very Good!.......2006-06-01
Pros:
Excellent show, real festive mood, good selection of songs, masterly performance.
Whole extra DVD with bonus features: acoustics, videos, documentaries, etc.
Fine booklet with photos and relevant info. And all this practically for the price of one DVD!
Cons:
Only moderate quality of video on disk 1 (some documentaries on disk 2 are shot better!).
The audio tracks on disk 1 also leave much to be desired in terms of sound recording in 2004.
But since some technical imperfections of the disks are more than compensated for by magnificent show itself, the verdict is: go get it!
an official DVD at last.......2006-02-21
Blackmore's Night, the project involving former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and his partner Candice Night, released this first official DVD comprising videos, short documentaries, and concert footage.
With a running time of several hours, it doesn't disappoint. There is quirky stuff about the couple, some animations, and lovely menus to navigate through. There are also a couple of videos made specially for the DVD ('Once In a Million Years' is the best and very funny).
A welcome addition to the huge number of unofficial DVDs which have come out recently showcasing Blackmore's Night.
