Romek my friend, you are in a minority!.......2008-01-23
I don't know what the previous reviewer was expecting, but it was clearly undeliverable let alone undelivered!
This is a fine concert, with Greg's vocals sounding fuller and deeper than they were when most of these tracks were originally recorded, and all the better for it - absolutely wonderful. The band are great and the sound quality of this DVD is truly awesome.
Greg is relaxed and the crowd are clearly transfixed (the look of joy on their faces during "Pictures at an Exhibition" is clear to see) and the beefing up of the rockier numbers in the set is a great contrast to the more melodic passages. Songs like "From the Beginning", "Take a Pebble" and "Lucky Man" are allowed time to breathe to make you really realise how beautiful both the melody and lyric are and i'm not ashamed to say that "The Sage" and "The Great Gates of Kiev" had me teary eyed with nostalgia for the days of such wonderful prog rock pomp. Emotional and powerful - like good music should be.
I recommend that you see this DVD if you ever liked any of these songs as you won't regret it. If you are disappointed however - then there is simply no pleasing you i'm afraid!
A big disappointment.......2007-03-31
I bought this DVD after heaving read the above reviews. And all I can say now - after watching it - A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!
I've been a big ELP & King Crimson fan since mid seventies. So I expected a lot from this one. Well ... ELP tracks - the same he's been playing with ELP for the last several years. Nothing new, nothing different. The versions are a distant echo of ELP originals. Two Crimson tracks also very weak. In the Court of the Crimson King Greg changed a melody line - awful. 21st Schizoid - a very compact version with a few heavy riffs instead of improvisation in the middle section. The only plus is picture and sound quality and that's why I rate this DVD three stars.
Great Concert.......2006-04-10
I went to the Greg Lake concert in Preston last November and it was the best gig I've been to since Floyd back in 94 at Earls Court. As soon as I heard that a DVD was going to be released of the concert I couldn't wait. Well now I've got it and I am not disapponted at all. Great DVD 2 disc set with a very good and informative extras disk. Any fan of ELP King Crimson et al will love this DVD. Wonderful musicians and fabulous music. Cant wait until the next tour this year. Worth every penny and the wait.
A BREATHTAKING PERFORMANCE.......2006-03-28
A brilliant DVD, well packaged hides one of the best performance I have ever seen. For all of you who are into King Crimson will found who was the real soul of the early incarnation. For all of you who are into progressive music he's the man. Greg Lake was the guy who "invented" and produced and defined that peculiar sound. For all of you who are into great songwriters Greg's songs are second to none for the words quality, the way they melt with music and THE VOICE: Greg Lake always was one of the very best male singers of all rock music. Now that his voice is deeper he's even better. Backed with a first class wizard band his voice thunders like hell and is sweeter than honey. The arrangements are modern, classy, out of time: what a taste, mr. Lake! The sound is of demonstration quality, the video is superb. It is worth to have waited all those years for this brilliant comeback event. The DVD of the decade!!!
