Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Dissapointing effort from Massive Attack.......2005-08-05

I have a slightly different angle on why this collection of promos is 'dissapointing.'

DVD is a fantastic opportunity to really give something worthwhile to the fans of a group like Massive Attack, and I feel that in putting only the promos on this has missed that opportunity completely.

So many Cd's now come with an accompanying DVD that includes the promos and so much more for free. (Such as Feeder's Pushing the Senses.) I look at how jam-packed DVD's from artists such as Moby and Depeche Mode are, and at the amazing Director's label DVD's such as Chris Cunningham, and this just pales into comparison.

Another reason to be dissapointed is Massive Attack are actually well known in the Art world, not just for their music, but for their paintings, photography and installations. This would have been a great way to archive some of this and allow us to see how they put things together.

This gets three stars for the fact that you cannot fault the music, it is after all one of the greatest bands on the planet.

1 out of 5 stars no stars for mono sound.......2004-09-21

Massive Attack's promo videos are works of art, I really like the atmospheric setting of the early videos, but the others are great too. However, why on earth is this DVD in mono????? Technically, it's definitely not worth buying. This is a DVD and not some scrummy old video!!! Somebody should have told them. Except for Angel, which was never shown on TV, I taped all of Massive's promos when they were on, so I've got a fabulous video tape in stereo!

3 out of 5 stars A LITTLE DATED.......2002-09-03

Theres no denying Massive Attacks greatness. Their music conjures up all kinds of great images due to the huge amount of atmosphere. And simply because of this, pop promo videos just don't do them enough justice. Other than Unfinished Sympathy, which would be great even if the video contained just a blank screen, and Be Thankful for What You've Got (containing a stripper who takes everything off, pretty shocking for 1992!) and Teardrop, they don't really amount to much. Just 3D and Horace Andy sitting around looking moody in black and white, very late 80's/early 90's. Risingson is especially dissapointing, given how intresting and atmospheric the song is. But then again, Massive Attack aren't the most commercially compromised band, so for them they're just going through the motions of what bands have to do to get a hit single, and other than Unfinished Sympathy, they really are a band who craft better albums than singles (I was amazed to find out album filler track Daydreaming was actually their first single, before Unfinished Sympathy!).

5 out of 5 stars A simply stunning offering.......2001-11-29

I've always been a fan of Massive Attack and to have all the videos here in one place is a bonus. Seeing and hearing 'Unfinished Sympathy' reminds me that this is perhaps the best song ever made.

Being an American and a die-hard fan of MA, the chances of this disc being released in the US are slim to none.
Good news - this DVD is region free! i'm watching it right now using my Region 1 set DVD-ROM and i've already watched it successfully using my Region 1 Pioneer DVD Player connected to a multisystem TV. So, if you have a DVD-ROM drive and/or your TV can handle PAL - you're in luck!
