Amazon.co.uk Review
For Doors completists only, this shapeless gathering of rare film clips of the band performing in Europe is hampered by the same old, frustrating problems with attempting to convey, through lousy camera work, the band's power as a live act. The packaging tells us the Doors swept through London, Stockholm, Frankfurt and Amsterdam during a 1968 tour documented here, but there is no way to appreciate that save for a random clip or two of Jim Morrison milling about outside concert venues, talking with fans. Otherwise, we see the same sort of obfuscating on-stage close-ups of Morrison you can see in any footage of a Doors gig, stumbling around, crooning and reciting poetry to minimalist accompaniment by Ray Manzarek on keyboards, John Densmore on drums and Robby Krieger on guitar. Unless one can see, in the mind's eye, what the band is up to from the point of view of a kid in the 30th row, there is no way to really get the hypnotic, Dionysian effect for which the Doors were justifiably famous. Thus, for anyone who can imagine such a thing, or take it on faith, there is good reason to enjoy performances of "Spanish Caravan", "Five to One" and two versions of "Light My Fire". There is even a relic of pre-MTV, pop promotion: a silly-looking performance of "Hello, I Love You" shot before a baffled crowd on a London street. --Tom KeoghSong list:
1. Light My Fire
2. Love Me Two Times
3. Back Door Man
4. Spanish Caravan
5. Hello, I Love You
6. When the Music's Over
7. Unknown Soldier
8. Light My Fire (II)
9. Five to One
10. Alabama Song

An ultimate 'The Doors' collection.......2006-02-26
THIS release, on the other side, embodies a very high level of respect for a true fan, with everything that goes with it.
For almost symbolic price, you get 3 extraordinary separate DVDs which were previously released as single editions, all packed in beautiful box and served for your own pleasure.
The reason for my eulogy is that the politics of this studio company (Eagle Rock entertainment) have deeply touched me, because everything is professionaly done and you get the real thing, not some rip-off or company's "immediate cash injection". You get real respect! If you've never met an opposite, just buy any edition., and you'll understand what I am talking about.
So, what is so special? Well, anything. Instead of old release of "Live at Europe 1968", you get a new one, with better menus and audio in DTS and Dolby 5.1 surround. It is remarkable addition (although the footage is same), because sound was the main low-point of former release.
I will not go to so in-depth exploration of the contents of DVDs from this set, because you can read it in reviews of the separate editions.
Soundstage Performances is an absolute delice. You get full performances of The End from Toronto Show 1967 (edited for edipal section in original cutting), Danish TV performance and PBS Show performance. Plus many comments from 2002 of Ray, Robby, John and Danny, including commentary of every song that is on DVD. Extraordinary! Menus here are superb - you can choose either commentaries + songs, only songs, or just commentaries of the songs. Very, very well done. As if some fan did this.
'No on here gets out alive' is another great hybrid of documentary and performance, and although somewhat weaker than the former two, fills just perfectly their gaps. It's just an hour long, and features only 3 complete songs - Changelin, Touch Me and LA Woman. Nevertheless, it is a great time-capsule that is actual today as it was back in 1981 when it was made, and provides an invaluable inputs from the key people related to the Doors: surviving members of the band, Danny Sugermann, Paul Rothchild and Jerry Hopkins. It was made a little bit 'trivial' maybe (I don't mean of contents, but of cutting and video effects), but to me it is even more attracting because of that - you get that late 70's TV feeling and that almost 'childish' approach to cutting and alternating the footage.
This documentary is a perfect companion to the self-titled book of Sugermann and Hopkings, and you can see here that these two guys are truly commited to what they had wrote.
Overall, a great and cheap package 4 hours long of so precious 'The Doors' video material, and together with DVD "The Doors: 30th anniversary collection" (which is another collection of 3 separate releases) provides an ultimate video collection for any true, commited fan. A definitive must!
