A Documentary Not A Concert !.......2008-03-14
First of all this is not Thin Lizzy's 1978 gig at the Rainbow Theatre in London it's a unofficial documentary looking at the classic Live And Dangerous album. Track by track analysis are provided by rock critics and journalists such as Total Rock's Malcolm Dome and Jerry Ewing and includes contributions from Phil Lynott's mother Philomena. The most plentiful clips are from the concert at Sydney Harbour Bridge and not of the Rainbow Theatre and does not feature many sound clips from the Live Dangerous album either. This I admit would have made the DVD so much better. I can understand the bad reviews as some people may have been misled but if you look at it for what is is, it's quite an interesting documentary. At the end of the day if you want the Live & Dangerous concert then just buy the Live & Dangerous concert DVD (Which is now available to buy) otherwise if you want an interesting look at a great live album then buy this. It's worth the price.
Neither live nor dangerous.......2007-09-28
This is a rip off - I wish I had read the other reviewers below who very accurately describe this rubbish. I bought this from a record shop and only saw the reviews when I came to post myself. If you want to see the band get something else this will only cure your insomnia.
Not what I'd expected.......2007-02-04
Live and Dangerous was and is one of the hottest live rock albums ever released and when it came out in 1978 it was accompanied by a VHS recording of Lizzy's 1978 gig at the Rainbow Theatre in London. Released under the title Live and Dangerous, this was an excellent concert with all four Lizzies at their peak and the band even better than the sum of its parts. Since the dawn of DVD technology I've been on the lookout for this concert on DVD in order to give my worn-out old VHS recording - which I still watch - a rest. Seeing a DVD advertised as Live and Dangerous, I immediately bought it and when it arrived through my door I set up my speakers, amp and DVD player and settled in for an evening of fireball Lizzy entertainment. What a disappointment. This is not a DVD version of the Live and Dangerous set from 1978. It's a mediocre documentary and only for collectors. Not what I'd expected.
A total con!.......2007-01-08
I feel completely conned by this DVD. What I had intended to buy was a DVD version of the Live and Dangerous album from 1978. This is anything but! Instead we get a bunch of talking heads (God knows who they are or who they THINK they are) talking about Lizzy's songs interspersed with concert footage from the Sydney concert (i.e. NOT from the Live and Dangerous tour). It is simply dreadful. The sound and visuals from Sydney are poor (I already have this DVD) and the commentaries are banal. Don't waste your money on this garbage!
Not what we're waiting for.......2006-04-07
Bought as a wrinkly fan (in permanent mourning) from the early days who saw the band numerous times at their peak in the late seventies and who rarely has Live and Dangerous missing from the CD changer in the car. This is not the DVD version of the album that old fans are waiting for. It has different commentators, one admitting to never even seeing Thin Lizzy live, talking saying how marvellous the album/group/performances/songwriting etc was but not enough video of the band performing. The most plentiful clips are from the much used footage of the concert in Sydney which wasn't the Live and Dangerous line up but none of the clips last for more than a few moments at a time anyway.
One for the avid collector maybe but the band members talking in the interview section on the Gary Moore and friends tribute DVD is much more interesting than this. Overall disappointing as I'm sure most fans will agree we "just" want a DVD version of the album.
