Master of DVDs ! ! !.......2007-08-22
Don't believe the two previous reviews! I usually don't buy these unofficial documentaries but this one blew me away! Seriously.
First of all, the last 5 minutes of the copy I got played fine. The guy that was having problems shouldn't put down this DVD just because his copy was faulty. Dude, exchange it for another one!
Second, I personally think it's good the journos don't brown-nose Metallica the whole time. I watched it with a couple of mates and it was fun to argue about stuff. And one of the journos went out and stayed with the band while they recorded MoP, so it's not like they're Total nobodies.
Also, yeah, the footage of the band isn't the best quality in the world but, Hell, neither was the stuff on Cliff 'em All and we all dig that, right? Besides, no other UNOFFICIAL Metallica DVD has ANY Metallica music in it, let alone footage of the band playing.
So, this documentary ain't the greatest, but it sure ain't the worst. And considering you can get it for little more than a fiver it's all good.
Get it. Watch it. Use it as a conversation starter.
Metallica........2007-06-20
The Cover maybe good. But the DVD apparently isn't. Just like the rest of the "Album" Titled DVD's.
Yet another pointless band cash in/rip off.......2007-04-01
You. like me have probably seen DVDs like this one beofre. Unnoficial band biographies and the suchlike. This is exactly the same. This DVD, about the album Master of Puppets, DOES have the music from said album.
BUT, it's either by a covers band called The Four Horsemen, or it's mega bad quality bootleg concert footage. BOTH of which never once do any of the songs any justice. Especially seeing as this DVD is supposed to be about celebrating how fantastic the album is. Hearing the songs in the context of this DVD really takes everything that's great about it, out.
The interviews are actually pointless. You are paying good money for people's opinions who are people who's opinion is just as worthless as you or I. No-one from Metallica or their crew speak.
It's 4 music journo nobodies telling you what they think of the album. I mean, how is this insightful or having any point?
Especially as two of the snotty, rather smug interviewees actually talk down about Metallica a lot during the interviews. Of course, Metallica aren't perfect and aren't untouchable but, sheesh, this is a DVD apparently for the fans. They wanna hear good things about the album, not what some music magazine writer thought should've/could've been better! I mean, wtf??
And to top it all the last 5 minutes of the DVD play WITHOUT SOUND. There's an interview going on but you won't hear whats being said! Utterly useless. I knew this DVD was going to be bad when i bought it, as usually these are good unintentional fun, but this was just painful. DO NOT BUY THIS DVD PLEASE!
