This three-disc edition of George Lucas's Star Wars Trilogy is basically the same set as the previous edition minus the bonus fourth disc. That means you get the three original films--A New Hope (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983)--in their brilliant-looking and -sounding DVD glory. That means you also get both the changes that were made for the 1997 special-edition versions as well as the revisions that were made for the films' DVD debut, including Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker) being added to a scene in Jedi, Ian McDiarmid (the Emperor) replacing Clive Revill with slightly revised lines in Empire, and Temuera Morrison re-recording Boba Fett's minimal dialogue, plus some other small details.
The discs don't qualify as bare-bones because they do include the commentary tracks recorded by Lucas, Ben Burtt (sound design), Dennis Muren (visual effects), and Carrie Fisher (Leia), plus Irvin Kershner added for The Empire Strikes Back. But what you lose is the fourth disc's 150-minute documentary Empire of Dreams: The Story of the Star Wars Trilogy, the three substantial featurettes ("The Characters of Star Wars," "The Birth of the Lightsaber," and "The Force Is with Them: The Legacy of Star Wars"), the Xbox sampler, the no-longer-exciting Episode III preview, and other odds and ends. Star Wars aficionados will certainly stick with the four-disc set, but casual fans might be satisfied with this lower-priced version. --David Horiuchi

New Version Vs Old Version.......2007-03-24
Aaah the classic debate - is the re-made 1997 version better then the original. In my opinion yes. Firstly the picture quality is amazing, and the edits including Hayden Christenson appearing at the end of Return of the Jedi just makes the whole saga fit together more nicely. Thats why I prefer the new version, it makes the continuity between the 6 films flow much better.
Better box than the 4 disc edition.......2006-03-31
Although you are missing the bonus disc, the box is actually really cool as its an old style picture from the 70's. The 4 disc edition has a rubbish silver box. I'm not bothered about not having the bonus disc as I've seen it and whilst its good, its nothing you are likely to watch over and over. Unlike the actual films, of course, which you will watch again and again and again.....
NOT the 1977 original (new boba fett voice).......2006-03-03
Sadly his DVD set has all the new added 3d scenes and changes, THIS IS NOT THE 1977 version.
Personally I don't much care if there are the new 3d scenes and dance sections, all I really wanted was the version without the new Boba Fett's voice.
THIS IS NOT THAT VERSION, I'm not even sure you can get that version on DVD.
Most disappointed
One of the best trilogies ever.......2005-12-06
I would have liked there to be a FULL SCREEN version for UK (region 2) of these movies like they have in USA.
99.99% of the original trilogy is in this special edition trilogy DVD. I'm very pleased that these three old movies have been cleaned up of ALL dirt and dust and have been digitally restored so they look brand new as if produced yesterday! You've never seen these movies look so sharp on TV with excellent picture quality.
Good basic set.......2005-11-21
These are as far as we know the same versions of the Original Star Wars Trilogy that were released last September but this set is without the 4th extra features disc. This is meant as a basic set for people who just want to see the films and dont want any extra features, this is shown in the reduced price compared to the 4 disc Boxset.
A good buy for the family.

Disapointing?.......2004-11-30
Although I am a huge fan of Rossi - I did find this DVD a bit disapointing as I don't think it really touched on Rossi himself. You didn't see much of his fantastic charismatic personality. I was expecting that little bit more; an in depth story behind the legend...

Ive watched valentino since he first started racing on british tv and from day 1 realised i was watching a champion in the making but not just a champion perhaps maybe the best there has ever been?who knows but i think so so young and so talented a real pleasure to watch a master in action.
