For those who are unfamiliar with SPACE: 1999.......2005-06-19

To put it simple: If you liked the original STAR TREK tv-series, you will also like SPACE:1999. (If you did NOT like STAR TREK; then stay away from SPACE:1999!!!). Although SPACE:1999 is NOT a copy from STAR TREK, there are some similarities in the type of stories it presents. Effects are slightly better than those in the original STAR TREK series, however the acting is of a slightly lesser quality (possibly also caused by a few meagre scripts). The ideas behind the stories are however very interesting, and the idea of having humans with VERY CONTEMPORARY TECHNOLOGY hurled into deep-space is very interesting (NO warp-engines, NO mega-starships, NO phasers, and NO superpowerful photon-torpedos!)...If you like SF from the early days (70s) Go for it and buy it!

Space 1999 ROCKS!.......2005-05-17

It's slow, predictable and the scenery is both shaky and unbelievable. SO WHAT! It was made way before CGI and for it's time was cutting edge television. Take a welcome trip back to when men were real men (even if they couldn't act that well), women were real women and the aliens trying to kill or eat them were hysterically scary.
You just gotta love it for it's "good old days" charm and lack of the modern day gorefest bloodbath approach.

Terrible.......2004-10-27

This series boasted a single memorable episode. A one eyed shrieking monster with waving tentacles versus a two eyed squaking Italian with waving arms and you're hard pressed deciding which one to avoid first. Even this episode has you scratching your head. After having encountered so many strange alien life forms by this point in the proceedings, not many of them over-friendly; why should the Alphans still be sceptical about Cellini's story?

The rest suffered the handicap of covering ground already boldly gone by the starship Enterprise and was just plain bad in execution. Take a random episode like 'End Of Eternity'. Could of been a terrifying and tense little thriller with a spider like sadist stalking prey in the exposed and anti-septic confines of a moonbase. Instead, they mis-cast the actor, give him a dodgy haircut and ridiculous pantaloons, campy dialogue and petulant little smacks. The result is yet another dire episode.

Actor Landau is a walking liability. According to his own script notes, he felt his character was written as a 'shmuck', which couldn't have helped what actors call their 'moduvashun'.

I bought it. Which is why I wish to remain anonymous.

space 1999 year one box set.......2003-11-25

This is a fantastic series that has everything you could want from Gerry Anderson. With Martin Landau and the Bewildered Barbera Bain.It made my childhood and even had me scared at some stages at the age of about eight. The Special effects still look good on this brilliant set. Carlton have done a first rate job with heaps of extras that are to many to list here. My best episodes are, 'Voyagers return' & 'The guardian of Piri'. The list price for this is a snip and it should be snapped up before it is deleted.

A real treat for you alphans.......2003-07-09

Space 1999 was one of those shows I remembered from my childhood, particularly the opening theme tune and the montage of images, my favourite being the eagle spinning round and slamming into the moon's surface.
I bought this box set even though I had every episode on video from the time ITC released it originally, needless to say those videos have gone because the DVD releases are superb!
From the moment the eagle does a fly by you know you are in for something special and Carlton have done a masterful job of remastering the series. Each episode looks fantastic, colour and sound is superb and the special effects somehow look better.
The special features are also high quality and I would urge any fan of Space 1999 to go out and buy this now! You won't be disappointed
