Prematurely cancelled.......2008-01-01
I hate that this series was cancelled. It had so much promise, and totally blew other series' of the time - "Invasion", "Surface", "The 4400", etc. - out of the water!
The basic premise is that an alien race, bent on taking over the Earth as its own, instead of invading, sends a 'signal' (as such) to bio-form the planet ready for habitation. It's clever, and original. An opportunity missed due to the basic requirements of standard American audience's.
There's a depth to the characters and, though the story is far-fetched, you can really get involved. Each episode leads nicely into the next. The dream sequences are visually stunning and lend a great deal to the story as a whole. It would be nice to think that, one day, someone capable of making a difference will recognise the mistake in cancelling this show.
Threshold - the undiscovered masterpiece.......2007-07-08
I generally avoid special FX laden cheap US Sci-Fi series as they are, by and large, written without skill, wit or depth. I know each has it's devotees but some feature truly appaling dialogue and acting which at best could be described as 'wooden'.
Threshold stands head and shoulders above these for originality, suspense and character empathy in an adult Sci-Fi series with tinges of horror/thriller thrown in for good measure. I simply cannot understand why they only made one series when trash like Stargate goes on and on.
Better than The 4400 in many ways yet with similar attributes there's no other Sci-Fi series quite like it. I am forever grateful to the team that produced this as I will continue to watch it despite knowing how it ends - it's that good.
another cancelled series.........2007-06-14
it's a little "mannered" and the format of a young woman leading an heroic charge against "summat" is getting less and less interesting with every incarnation..(maybe if she were 45 years old, over-weight and not terribly attractive this might be interesting etc)
BUT it still doesn't explain why the series was cancelled so abruptly, with even the final four episodes not being screened..fortunately these episodes are on the DVD's...no idea what the logic behind cancelling series has become..the genre must be well understood by now..
anyhuw threshold is interesting , the dream sequences are excellent and add a lot of spice to the story, some interesting (again) concepts crop up and even the really puzzling plot "holes" are reasonably well covered through the dvd extra features..with two major actors involved (Data from star trek and the head prisoner from alien 3)it rumbles along very nicely
it's becoming a hobby of sorts collecting cancelled sci fi series..lol
and this one is well worth adding to any collection...I would have prefered them to have used something similar to the "traffic jam sequence" as the final scene rather than the forced semi "happy dream" ending (under the circumstances) as this would have been food for thought...but other than that.. ok
