Farscape 3.2 [1999]

Amazon.co.uk Review

With the third season well under way, it's clear that Farscape has developed into a grown-up show. There's a new self-confidence and a new maturity here that's entirely welcome after the often wildly erratic tone of the second season. The production design and high-quality effects work remain true to the show's original quirky style, although both the look and the more adult-themed scripts have become progressively darker.

This second box set of Season 3 features five of the nastiest, most shocking and incident-packed episodes to date. Things start badly when psychotic madman Kaarvok kills D'Argo and Chiana and sucks out their brains. Only later do we discover he's "twinned" them when the same fate befalls Crichton--though both Crichton "twins" survive. Life just gets more and more complicated thereafter. Crichton twin 1 stays on Moya with D'Argo, Chiana and Jool, while Crichton twin 2 transfers to Talyn with Aeryn, Crais, Rygel and Stark. Talyn is being pursued by a Peacekeeper retrieval squad led by Aeryn's mum, Xhalax Sun, and is then swallowed by a Budong (in the Ben Browder-penned episode "Green-Eyed Monster") before Mrs Sun catches up with her daughter and pals. Back on Moya a mysterious "Energy Rider" possesses the crew in turn. Meanwhile on Talyn, Aeryn and Crichton twin 2 have been blissfully having sex, while Crais lusts vainly for Aeryn. Just wait until Scorpius gets involved.

On the DVD: This box set contains the usual "Info Pods" and other extras, plus the first Region 2 commentary, for the episode "Relativity", with actor Lani Tupu and director Peter Andrikidis; it's a shame that they don't have a lot to say. --Mark Walker

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Farscape!!!.......2002-05-14

This is VITAL sci-fi viewing!!! Catch up with Astronaught John Crichton Officer Aeryn Sun, Ka D'Argo, Chianna, Rygel, Jool, Stark, Crais, and the wonderfully Evil Scorpius in this the most recent Farscape DVD set (Season 3 set 2). If you haven't seen this wonderful series yet, then get a hold of the series 1 box set DVD and prepare to be amazed. I stumbled across this show by accident. Although I had previously heard of it, I dismissed it as another "Star Trek" yawnfest. I decided to give it a go and I'm so glad I did, because now I can't bear to miss it. This most recent DVD set again proves that it's the best thing on the box. It's funny, thrilling, touching and wonderful entertainment that doesn't insult the audience. Sci-Fi fans will revel in the truly stunning special effects (you'd think you were watching a big budget Hollywood production at times) and bizarre creatures that inhabit the Farscape universe. All the main cast are perfect and play off one another beautifully. It just seems to go from strenghth to strength as each season passes and it's very interesting to see how each season brings subtle changes to each character and how their feelings towards each other develop as a family. Catch the repeats on the Sci- Fi channel and see what the fuss is about. I promise you wont be disapointed. Very impressive all round! Long may it last.

5 out of 5 stars An extremely interesting series.......2002-03-27

Farscape is one of the more involving television programs that I have seen in a long time. The story line keep you interested from start to finish. While Season 3 is a bit darker than the previous two, these episodes are still worth watching.

      Amazon.co.uk Review

With the third season well under way by now it's clear that Farscape has developed into a grown-up show. There's a new self-confidence and a new maturity here that's entirely welcome after the often wildly erratic tone of the second season. The production design and high-quality effects work remain true to the show's original quirky style, although both the look and the more adult-themed scripts have become progressively darker. It's also clear that anyone who has not followed Farscape extremely closely from the very first episode of Season One will be utterly baffled by the convoluted plotting and complex character interactions.

All the principal actors know their characters inside and out by now, and delight in showing off their many weaknesses and flaws. Refreshingly, the crew of Moya are a squabbling, bickering, selfish bunch most of the time, who somehow and against expectations manage to pull together (just) at the crucial moment. The writing has matured, too, remaining as witty as ever but equally unafraid to push both genre and censorship boundaries as villains bloodily torture their victims (usually Crichton) and the main characters become more and more obsessed about their sex lives (or lack thereof). Farscape is a galaxy far, far away from the clean, cosy world of Star Trek.--Mark Walker

4 out of 5 stars Oh! Extra Stuff!.......2002-09-26

This was a good buy although a little pricey. But if you're like me and you'd like a nice presentation box, some cool piccies and a mousemat to boot, then you should buy it! I bought this merely for the collectable side of it rather than the DVD itself, but then, I already own that box set!

It's worth buying if you want memories of a sci-fi
series in the years to come. It looks great and may be worth something one day!

5 out of 5 stars Farscape, Season Of Death.......2002-06-25

This was classic farscape in everyway, mixed emotions, mixed storylines, mixed up lives, just brilliant, a love story set in a Budong who could ask for more, tension and Stark starting to go absolute bananas. And Rygel up to his usual self serving.

I say BUY IT and if you havent got Deluxe Box set 3.1 buy that too the extras are well worth it.
