Bright Lights, Big City.......2006-02-05
This movie should be taken in context, it is not you usual MJ Fox movie by any means.
The film is a slice of life, with no begining or end, merely a real view of how life can be grim and bleak.
See this if you want a real Fox film.
bad.......2003-07-31
I found this film awful. I found it dire, slow and not really much happening. I do like Michael J Fox's films but I found this one very hard to comprehend. If you like MJ's normal fun, comedy films like Doc Hollywood and Secret of My Success, don't bother with this one.
One of his worst films I have ever seen.

Please Stop Making Me Laugh.......2007-03-16
This film is one of the funniest film's EVER!!!!!.
Bette Milder & Lily Tomlin are pure gold to watch.
It's got a really simple plot, In a small town of Jupiter Hollow, two sets of identical twins are born in the same hospital on the same night. One set to a poor local family and the other to a rich family just passing through. Then the story flashes forward to the 1980's where the mismatched sets of twins are about to cross paths following a big business deal to closedown the Jupiter Hollow factory. The film is shot in New York.
Bette Midler is Fxxxing brillant in this film and will have you laughing every second of this film as the poor Sadie,
"Sometime I find Myself So Bored I'm Just Praying For A UFO Sighting And I'll Stand Here And Say 'Come And Get Me Come Get Me'
Please Buy it.
I loved this film!!.......2006-02-09
I loved this film! Reminds of being a child and sitting at home with my mum while we were chilling out. It is a bit predicatble and a bit silly but what better way to spend a cold Sunday afternoon, curled up on the sofa watching a cheesy film!! Love it!
Big Business.......2005-01-06
While there was nothing essentially wrong with this film, it was dated, with a cliched plot, and it is true to say you knew the end within the first ten minuites. That said it was watchable, and you can enjoy it, its just not one you'd want to watch again in a hurry.
Big Business, Big costumes, Big jokes, Big acting, Big laugh.......2001-02-08
To be honest this film is quite corny, it has a farily predictable plot as well as a slightly clichéd script.
HOWEVER.It is a formula that, though predictable, works. It is a film that is very very funny. The comic timing of the two principal actresses is excellent, and the supporting cast also provide hearty and comedic performances that add to the general revelry of the film.
There are several hilariously funny scenes in this film, which coupled with the tried and tested 'mistaken identity' plot make 'Big Business' a film to watch over and over again.
Other points to note on this film;
The production is good. It is a classic 80's film - making it fresh and optimistic, even though the plot has be used many a time. The comic acting of Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin is excellent, Tomlin holds her ground very well next to Bette!!!
This film has a 3 star rating because;
-the film is a little predictable
- the script is a little clichéd
get it ,simple as that!.......2000-09-10
If you like comedy and the optimistic humour of the eighties, this is for you. Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin really show thier comedic talent in this non-stop action comedy that has you yelling 'shes behind you' like a kid at a panto. I love it and any sane person will too.
Amazon.co.uk Review
A perfect marriage of novel but incisive writing, acting and direction, Big is the story of a 12-year-old boy who wishes he were older, and wakes up one morning as a30-year-old man (Tom Hanks). The script by Gary Ross(Dave) and Anne Spielberg finds some unexpected ways of attacking obvious issues of sex, work, and childhood friendships, and in all of these things the accent is on classy humour and great sensitivity. Hanks is remarkable in the lead, at times hilarious (reacting to caviar just as a 12-year-old would) and at others deeply tender. Penny Marshall became a first-rate filmmaker with this 1988 work. --Tom Keogh

Hanks' best ever role?.......2008-03-02
In his first Oscar nominated role, Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump) gives an outstanding performance as teenager Josh who makes a wish on a fair ground machine to be big. The next morning, Josh wakes up to find his wish has come true.
Director Penny Marshall's second film is a wonderful tale about the differences between teenage life and the grown up world with Hanks a catalyst in perhaps his best ever role.
The film contains many typical elements of both the young and the old world. From playing computer games at home to organizing promotion meetings, Big truly captures how life can transform quickly; just overnight for some of us (which was a brilliant idea to capture the true meaning of growing up).
It's a very good natured comedy and some very clever jokes are encoded to justify the genre beautifully.
There are some good feel moments, watch the piano scene in the toy store, comedy and enjoyment at its very best.
Jared Rushton (Honey, I shrunk the kids) has a marvellous role as Josh's best friend. Their song is really heart warming and humorous and the adventures they have together are great fun and epitomize childhood.
But its Hanks who steals centre sage with his dedicated performance as Josh. On build up to the film, he followed David Moscow around, who played young Josh, to see how he acted in real life and portrayed his actions in the film, a wonderful achievement and a great role.
Though the film follows a few clichés towards the end it is one of the best family comedies ever made.
Tom was and is a great actor and that film was a BIG step!.......2008-02-27
A very good cast helped of course!...
In a way, it makes you think what Calvin would do without Hobbes if ever his megalomaniac dreams got suddenly realized...
A very good family film... of course a precursor of such others as the one with Jamie Lee Curtis in which she changes bodies with her daughter...
Curiously enough even P.G.Wodehouse indulged in the theme in "Laughing gas" a novel where a young man and a Hollywood star child exchange bodies at the dentist!... (Of course IT IS hilarious).
A MUST SEE (and what's more I have been able to see it several times at decent intervals without switching to other things...).

PS: It makes you wonder why guionists can't push more FUN in scripts...
ZOLTAR SAYS YOUR WISH IS GRANTED.......2007-08-23
I often wonder why it's so damn hard to just be a big kid no matter how old you are. Big is a movie about hanging on to that carefree child even when you grow up. It's about not getting caught up in stringent rules and routines, remembering those things that made being young so great, the outlook on life, especially when facing the mundane world of adulthood. Big strikes the balance between the two.
This is one of those movies that nearly everyone has seen. And, I suppose it's the precursor to that movie, 13 Going on 30, despite some differences in how the metamorphosis occurs and the result and everything.
Big is the story of 13 year-old Josh Baskin who is tired of missing out on all the privileges of being an adult. He's tired of simply being a kid. One night, he makes a drastic wish at a carnival arcade machine, and in the next day, he wakes up 30 years-old (or so). So the kid gets his wish, and while trying to return to normal, is a 13 year-old kid faced with a 30-year old's responsibilities. And it's a lot of fun. He works at a toy manufacturer. He gets the most excellent loft. I remember wanting a place like that when I was a teenager. Eventually, the 13-year-old must balance with the responsibilities of being a 30 year-old when Josh falls seriously in love with Susan (Perkins).
Big is one of the greatest movies ever simply because of the idea of a kid trying to be an adult and an adult still trying to hang on to being a kid, and all that things that Josh Baskins gets to experience while doing that.
As one of Penny Marshall's most notable production, this is enjoyable for nearly any age group. Everyone in it is fantastic--Hanks, Perkins, Loggia, Heard, Rheul, Moscow, and Rushton. It's a tough thing trying to hang to being young when you get older, but Big's a good reminder to keep trying.
A CLASSIC, HANKS AT HIS BEST, CLASSIC 80'S.......2007-07-20
oh how this movie is lovely. its beautiful, funny, uplifting, emotional and just good fun. tom hanks is outstanding and creates this film to be one of the best films of the decade. watch again, again, again and again, and let it brighten your day. and this review is written by major cynic!
Film that got Tom Hanks noticed.......2007-04-16
Despite however mature sounding our denials may be, we all have the kid in us; from management role plays to our childhood memories ;reliving your childhood experiences is a great thing and Tom Hank's Peter Pannish performance is memorable. One scene which merits attention is the one where he attends a high powered management board meeting to discuss the virtues of a child product and manages to impress the boss by convincing him that he not only thinks as a board member but also as the target kiddy market. This is the film that got Tom Hanks noticed.
Amazon.co.uk Review
Michael Douglas won an Oscar for perfectly embodying the Reagan-era credo that "greed is good." As a Donald Trump-like Wall Street raider aptly named Gordon Gecko (for his reptilian ability to attack corporate targets and swallow them whole), Douglas found a role tailor-made to his skill in portraying heartless men who've sacrificed humanity to power. He's a slick, seductive role model for the young ambitious broker played by Charlie Sheen, who falls into Gecko's sphere of influence and instantly succumbs to the allure of risky deals and generous payoffs. With such perks as a high-rise apartment and women who love men for their money, Charlie's like a worm on Gecko's hook, blind to the corporate manoeuvring that puts him at odds with his own father (played by Sheen's off-screen father, Martin). With his usual lack of subtlety, writer-director Oliver Stone drew from the brokering experience of his own father to tell this Faustian tale for the "me" decade, but the movie's sledgehammer style is undeniably effective. A cautionary warning that Stone delivers on highly entertaining terms, Wall Street grabs your attention whilst questioning the corrupted values of a system that worships profit at the cost of one's soul. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com
