I have been racking my brain trying to remember the name of a wonderful christmas film I used to watch at christmas when I was younger. Once I read some of the reviews I realised this was the film. Its got to be one of the best christmas films ever made it just makes me feel so christmassy!! I have just ordered it and can't wait to sit and watch it with my own children now.

1 out of 5 stars Santa claus the movie.......2005-11-09

I have this on vhs and it is excellent but the copy I received from amazon the sound is out of sync with the movie and it is very frustrating. I am a 58 year old grandmother and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie when it was on tv but this is just a joke. I will be returning it ASAP

5 out of 5 stars A Christmas Treasure Forever!!!.......2005-06-09

'Santa Claus the Movie' is, without any doubt, the most beautiful movie you could ever own in history! It has the most beautiful soundtrack, a heart-warming story-plot and more importantly, a blend of very talented actors.

The story is about a man named Claus. Every Christmas Eve, he travels around his homeland on his sled of Reindeer with his wife, Anya, delivering presents to all of his friends and children. However, one Christmas Eve, his wife, reindeer and he are caught in a terrible snowstorm. Later, they're rescued by a group of friendly elves (one of them named Patch is played by Dudley Moore. May God rest his poor soul) and they take them to their new home in the North Pole. There, Claus begins his new life as 'Santa Claus' and ever since that day, is able to fly on his sled and reindeer delivering presents to good children all over the world.

Eventually, during the story, the elf, Patch, believing that Santa no longer likes him, decides to leave and make it big in New York to make Santa like him again. It's up to Santa and his two new friends, a young boy named Joe, and a young girl named Cornelia, to bring him back before it's too late.

'Santa Claus the Movie' is definitely a movie that everyone should have in their Video/DVD collection. I've loved this movie ever since I was a baby. I've grown up watching it every single Christmas and have made it a personal tradition of mine to watch it every single year.

This is not the kind of movie that you will eventually get bored of watching. The story, soundtrack and characters are all so loveable that no matter how many times you've watched this movie over the years, you will always be really excited to watch it again the following Christmas. The creators of this most wonderful story have really succeeded in capturing my heart and it absolutely fills you up with the most wonderful feeling of the Christmas Spirit.

The special features on this DVD are really cool! You get to see a really long documentary on the making of the movie, as well as a few words from one of our main stars, Dudley Moore. You also get two special trailers from many years ago when the movie was only just released.

'Santa Claus the Movie' looks absolutely gorgeous on DVD format. I've always thought the picture quality was very good when they showed it on TV every Christmas, but DVD-format really takes the prize. The picture has been digitally-remastered, giving you a beautiful widescreen, crystal clear image. Not to mention that the audio-sound has been greatly improved!

If you want to make your Christmas one of the most memorable and special Christmas ever, then BUY THIS DVD NOW!!! You will NOT be sorry...!

4 out of 5 stars Mickey and Santa save my Christmas.......2007-12-30

My 2 yr old daughter had this for her Christmas eve pressi and the whole family sat down to watch it ... We felt very disappointed that only the 1st episode was Christmas themed and the other two were just nice episodes. Pity. They missed their chance to put an awesome DVD together. BUT, the Christmas episode is really good!

3 out of 5 stars Hmmmmmmm.......2007-12-04

I bought this dvd for my son after he had seen a Mickey's Clubhouse episode where Mickey saves Santa. I thought that the dvd would be a longer, more in depth version of the tv episode. The dvd is actually a 20'ish minute episode (the same one from the Playhouse Disney channel) plus a couple of non-christmas extras. Great episode, but the whole dvd should have been christmas themed.

Andrea Bocelli - A Night In Tuscany [1997]

Amazon.co.uk Review

Part concert, part documentary, part travelogue, this video hit duplicates the success of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli's albums and underscores his unique crossover appeal. Critical response to Bocelli has been confined to fusillades of scorn from classical and opera writers, but the bullet-proof superstar is better understood in the context of a mainland European tradition of pop-classical fusion. Bocelli cheerfully ignores the supposed wall between high (classical) art and low (pop) kitsch with his mix of operatic chestnuts, soft pop and traditional Italian songs.

Indeed, despite interview segments in which he proclaims his love of opera or proudly recalls an apprenticeship to operatic veteran Franco Corelli, Bocelli comes across as more fan than virtuoso. But if his voice can prompt technical cavils from hard-core opera buffs, the blind singer's emotional directness and relative lack of onstage preening explain much of his populist appeal. Featured songs include warhorse arias, leading off with the "Louie, Louie" of tenor showpieces, Turandot's "Nessun Dorma" and duets with gruff Italian pop-rocker Zucchero and sopranos Nuccia Focile and Sarah Brightman (who buddies up for the tear-jerking closer, "Time to Say Goodbye"). Even with the marquee bonus of those guests, however, A Night in Tuscany gets its biggest boost from the seductive Italian countryside, prominently featured in between-song segments, and in the romantic concert setting, Pisa's Piazza dei Cavalieri. --Sam Sutherland

5 out of 5 stars Andrea Bocelli - A Night In Tuscany [1997] .......2007-11-09

This DVD is worth it for the last 2 tracks alone. Duets with Zuccero and Sarah Brightman, the rest is a bonus. As for the poor picture quality mentioned in a previous review - it is shot in high contrast - for effect in my opinion. I am a photographer so picture quality is important to me. This is within DVD quality tolerance.
Summary: - WONDERFUL - BUY IT.

4 out of 5 stars Sumptuous sound - enormous enjoyment........2001-03-11

OK , forget all you might have heard about the "classically trained" debate - if you are prepared to relax and straightforwardly enjoy someone singing their heart out in the land he loves, then this DVD is for you.

The occasional film clips of Tuscany and AB's family are brief and appropriate, and the warmth of this man and his voice reaches out, wrapping around you like a sulty Italian evening. If it's an illusion, it's a particularly seductive one which I was very happy to enjoy at its own pace and for its own sake.

Many of the songs are the staple "3 tenors" fare with which we have all become familiar, but they are presented here with a sincerity and perhaps even simplicity which make them appear much fresher than seems reasonable, given their exposure. It is a tribute to the singer that the overall effect produced by the DVD is entirely one of enjoyment - an enjoyment distinctly enhanced by his ventures into the realms of pop, where the change in his voice is as marked as it is appropriate.

Full marks - if only the video quality had been better than VHS-standard the DVD would have justly deserved five stars.

5 out of 5 stars a true vocal masterpiece for all lovers of music !.......2001-01-27

a grand tour of pisa and the life of andreas is just one of the side lines on this dvd only adding to the music and perfect vocal talents of this warm and expressive vocalist no matter what type of music takes your fancy be it opera or punk youll soon find a small place in your heart melting as you listen to this wonderful tenor , put aside your preducies about them or us in music and just listen and enjoy a journey of discovery through true vocal talent and down to earth passion.

4 out of 5 stars Very interesting. Love story or Horror? Endearing either way........2007-06-13

I didn't find this so bizarre as to lose my way/interest.
I like the odd diversion from the predictable norm and so quite enjoyed all the jolly goings-on and hallucinatory visions. It was only the elephant butchering celebrations I didn't really understand. (I don't think that qualifies as a spoiler as It's not plot-relevant... is it??)

The strong characters are all superb.
I suppose it does drag a little towards the end but it would be a challenge to keep-up the pace of nutty goings-on. Besides, it needs to slow down a bit I suppose 'cos it all gets a bit emotional in the conclusion.

*SPOIL*
Yeah, the ending was a bit of an anti-climax but fairly just. Or bitter-sweet perhaps. I reckon some graphic nudity would have enhanced the ending... If you'd just been re-united with your very beautiful (and now adult) childhood sweetheart who's also the first girl you could sh@g without subsequently stabbing to death, and were facing an imminent and lengthy jail term, what would you do before giving yourself up??!
*SPOIL OVER*

There seems to be an almost continuous musical accompaniment through the whole film which I felt helped carry the viewer along very nicely indeed.

There's lots of talk of 'Horror' in these reviews but I think this is more of a drama/'coming-of-age'/love story with a bit of dismemberment thrown-in!!

I loved it, actually. Should've watched it again before returning.

Odd that it was in English. Although I'm not complaining -the dialogue sounded perfectly natural.

Will get the soundtrack if it's available.

5 out of 5 stars Psycho-Horror In Latin Flavour.......2006-11-02

I liked this movie form the very first scene. Really good cast and acting, beautiful colors and costumes all way up to the end, I loved the Latin soundtrack, the bizarre parties and characters (i.e. Moncha Hands) and the crude yet delightful details, such as the fight between Moncha and her husband...
Watch it and re-watch it
;)

3 out of 5 stars Umm, BIZARRE kind of sums it up!.......2005-02-25

The big question about this film is this: Do you need to be on drugs to watch it or was the director on enough for all of us when he made it? I guess since I'm drug free it must be the latter.

Certainly bizarre, one passage sees a group of down syndrome people excitedly eating fruit, three of whom are then taken into the city where a pimp offers them some cocaine which they snort & then proceed down a street of prostitutes who sing and dance like they're in a Hollywood musical and then the three of them walk off with the biggest, fattest, ugliest hooker you ever did see. Or maybe she was a Madam, to be honest I gave up trying to understand, it barely matters with this one!

Oh, there's a midget, an elephant that's torn apart, cripples, a tattooed lady, a mute, a muscle bound female wrestler (or to be more accurate, a man with breasts wearing a wig!), not to mention a band of annoying clowns that follow people around playing songs, in there too.

Did I mention the word bizarre? I didn't even get to the part where it rains chickens. The fact that I've missed out dozens of other things I could've mentioned points to the fact that there are just far too many ideas being thrown together for any real coherence and chances are that you will lose interest several times due to your brain liquidising. Although that said, thankfully the plot is pretty simple, believe it or not, and it is kind of a fun ride all the same.

Add all this to the boy who's so traumatized after witnessing the death of his father (wonderful sequence including wig removing, throat cutting, acid to the genitals & slicing off of arms) he takes to sleeping in a basket and living up a tree like a monkey. I think I'll join him.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant..........2004-08-13

I had been searching for this film for years after having read an interview with Jodorowsky. I was simply overwhelmed by this wonderful man's intelligence and character. And, living in South Africa, where one has to really search for a video store that would even contemplate thinking about ordering a film like this (El Topo? More chance of finding rocking horse poo...)I was delighted to finally be able to get my grubby little mitts on this film.

The storyline is simple enough, but what sets this film apart from many other "horror" films (I hate to categorise it, as it is more a performative theory than a drive-in classic) is the sheer beauty of the repulsion, the guilt-ridden internal pleasure one feels at being so utterly enthralled by the sight of a knife entering someone's back...

It is this beauty that really makes this transfer to DVD stand out as a necessity, and just goes to show that technology can actually help in delivering deep-red-surreality the way the director sees it in his head... Fellini? Bunuel? Well, I like to ignore imitations, and drop ice down the back of the postmodernists (Jameson has just been done so many times before *groan*) and am able to see beyond the homage to the vision that is uniquely Jodorowsky's. [insert huge futile and possibly violent debate here]

This vision, beautiful juxtaposition that it is, sees brutality emerging from the joy of the circus (some of the most beautifully photographed scenes I know)and eneveloping itself in the gestalt mind of the family, finally leading to redemption, absolution, and, dare I say it, love...

It seems to linger, Santa Sangre does, with one as a pastiche of set-pieces, and this episodic quality again reinforces the dreamlike hyper-surreality Jodorowsky and his "women" seem to inhabit. The elephant scene, for instance, would probably repulse many people, who would find themselves suddenly, and a week later, replaying the scene in their head, picturing it as it is on the screen, as it was in Jodorowsky's mind...This glorious quality is the property of so few films recently (one or two leap to mind, but there they shall stay) that Jodorowsky can truly claim filmic alchemy as one of his arts...

The second disc to me was definitely as good as the movie itself. The feature length documentary "La Constellation Jodorowsky" enhanced this package for me beyond words. Seeing Jodorowsky talk, synaesthetic though it may with the subtitles, is a sheer joy. Finally, this documentary (more a celebration than a mere retrospective) together with the onstage interview with Jodorowsky filmed more recently, carries one away with the spirit of the Jodorowsky, and leaves one almost mournful of the fact that his output has been sparse, and that the pictures he has made are almost impossible to obtain. So, if anybody from Anchor Bay is reading this, you know what to do...

That is all that needs to be said of this film. Buy it, watch it, then really watch it, then watch yourself, and let the cleansing fire wash over Jodorowsky and bless his heart...

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD presentation of a modern horror classic.......2004-01-31

This is one of my all time favorite movies - I consider it one of the greatest items from the crossover zone between arthouse, cult movie and taboo-breaking horror, along with Polanski's "Repulsion", Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" and Lynch's "Blue Velvet". Technically Jodorowsky, who's spent more of his career writing influental French sci-fi graphic novels than directing movies (I guess movie producers can be forgiven for being a bit nervous about financing his stuff), may not be quite as accomplished as the three other directors I mentioned, but the sheer power of the story helps making this movie completely memorable. There are some obvious influences here from Fellini, Bunuel, George Romero, Hitchcock's "Psycho" etc, but Jodorowsky is enough of a visionary to make the end result seem completely original: an accessible, entertaining and moving freudian magical realist splatter horror movie. (and if you want an appreciation of the movie from a better writer than me, use Google to locate Roger Ebert's perceptive review of Santa Sangre from his "The Great Movies" series.)

The DVD transfer is nice, anamorphic with vibrant colors. Don't expect super THX surround sound, but it sounds okay. The 90 minute decumentary is informative and good fun, and it has some pretty mindblowing footage, including video footage from weird 1970's surrealist happenings featuring topless women. And the fairly long time spent on live recordings from Jodorowsky's weekly seminars in Paris on the Tarot deck and self discovery doesn't make him look too much like a weird self-indulgent guru, at least not in my opinion. I thought that it was fairly interesting and charming and funny. There's a also very interesting deleted scene. Unfortunately the soundtrack for this seems to have been lost, but it has a commentary track from Jodorowsky. And no, I haven't sat down and listened to the commentary track for the entire movie yet. Getting through Jodorowsky's broken English can be a bit of an ordeal!! But when I get round to it I'm sure it will be fun even though it will probably make my head hurt a bit. Conclusion: Classic movie! great package! five stars! Nine out of Ten! Two Thumbs up! etc.

Bad Santa [2003]

Amazon.co.uk Review

Instantly qualifying as a perennial cult favorite, Bad Santa is as nasty as it wants to be, and there's something to be said for comedy without compromise. The Coen brothers conceived the basic idea and served as executive producers, but it's director Terry Zwigoff who brings his unique affinity for losers and outcasts to the twisted tale of Willie T. Stokes (Billy Bob Thornton), a hard-drinking, chain-smoking, foul-mouthed sexaholic safe-cracker who targets a different department store every holiday season, playing Santa while he cases the joint with his dwarf elf-partner Marcus (Tony Cox). With comedic support from Bernie Mac, Lauren Graham, Cloris Leachman, and John Ritter in his final film, Thornton milks the lowbrow laughs with a slovenly lack of sentiment, warming Bad Santa's pickled heart just enough to please a chubby misfit (Brett Kelly, hilariously deadpan) who may or may not be mentally challenged. As dry as an arid martini and blacker than morning-after coffee, Bad Santa is an instant cure for yuletide schmaltz, and if you think this appropriately R-rated comedy is suitable for kids, your parenting skills are no better than Willie's. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

2 out of 5 stars There was comedy in there?.......2007-12-09

I bought this dvd expecting it to be hilarious due to the positive feedback from other critics. I've given it two stars out of the misguided illusion that the settings were right and the actors should've been right but the writing was appalling!!
I think this film under used it's assets, and I am totally lost as to how people even said it was remotely funny? His character was one of a guy with a chip on his shoulder. This was fine if he'd had some redeeming qualities but the story was wafer thin and relied on obvious swearing to make it appeal.
Comedy comes in all forms which this one defies as a category. Personally I found it a waste of money!

4 out of 5 stars Wholly Inappropriate but Wickedly Funny.......2007-12-09

While this movie aims to offend almost every sensibility, it is a feel-good movie at heart. There are a number of cliches and conventions in this film, but there are also moments of truly subversive humour. As well, the performances are remarkable. It's a nice little film for those of us who have a love-hate relationship with the holidays.

It's the perfect antidote to Yule-fuelled madness.

3 out of 5 stars Billy Bob has a blast.......2007-11-22

It was funny but it was predictable. Worth a watch if you are in the mood for something light. BBT does the job and the supporting performances are good but there is just nothing new once you get past the sleazy Santa gag.

5 out of 5 stars My new favourite christmas film.......2007-03-07

Billy Bob Thornton stars as Willy, a drunken loser and criminal who, once a year, dresses up like Santa for one of those shopping mall jobs where kids sit on your knee and tell you what presents they want. He's not doing this to share the holiday spirit, though - this is a scam that culminates with Willy and his elf sidekick Marcus stealing the Christmas Eve takings from the mall's safe. Things take a turn for Willy, however, when he finds himself making an unusual friend in earnest but deeply oblivious kid Thurman Merman (Brett Kelly), who loves Santa so much he'll put up with whatever foul-mouthed abuse Willy throws his way.

Thornton is on very course and funny form in this one as possibly the worst incarnation of Santa Claus christmas has ever seen. He falls asleep in his chair, pees himself, cusses out any kids he doesn't like (which is pretty much all of them), and seems almost impervious to sentiment. Young actor Kelly is also very good as the lovable and naive Thurman, even when he has snot dripping down his face. Oddly, the relationship between these two is similar to the one Thornton had with Lucas Black in Sling Blade, although with more swearing and comedy violence.

More than anything else, Bad Santa is just flat-out funny from start to finish. Adding to the enjoyment, though, is the way it neatly avoids the torrent of sickly sentimentality that, for some reason, always tends to engulf christmas films. Although it does have its touching moments, it was nice to see a film that dared to take a look at the festive season from the perspective of characters who don't give a stuff about yuletide joy and all that. This is an excellent dark comedy and is recommended to all.

Santa Clause 3 : The Escape Clause [2006]

Amazon.co.uk Review

The third entry in this popular series of festive family comedies, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause brings Tim Allen back as Scott Calvin, a man who has to juggle his family life with a dual role as Santa. This time, there's a newborn in the offing, an invite to his in-laws and a house full of people all ready to enjoy the festive season. What could go wrong?

Well naturally things don't quite go to plan, as entering stage left is Martin Short as Jack Frost, who has plans of his own for the Christmas season. Thus, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause sees Scott Calvin and his family continuing to try and keep Christmas on schedule, whilst trying to foil the antics of Mr Frost, sticking closely to the formula that's made this franchise a hit in the process.

It's hardly surprising that there's nothing radically different about The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, but then that's hardly the point. This is a very much an easy holiday crowd-pleaser, that bundles in solid family entertainment and a good number of chuckles across its running time. It's worked for the series before, and it works again here, proving to be a welcome seasonal treat, and a fitting third part of a very family-friendly trilogy. Roll on Christmas! --Jon Foster

4 out of 5 stars Ho Ho Ho.......2008-01-12

Well it had a few Ho Ho but not the best out of the others.

But still nice to watch on Christmas eve before the real Father Christmas set out to work.

Also has subtitles for the deaf.

1 out of 5 stars one to far.......2008-01-05

Ah well, was to much to hope that this would be as funny as the first 2 films in the trilogy, at least for the older generations. I suspect that young children may still like this family film, the older folk would be better off leaving them to it. The elves seemed like the children they were, American shmaltz layed on thick at every opportunity, they even gave the reindeer stupid chipmunk voices - as for Jack Frost? well, words fail me. Best part of the film was the last few minutes as they showed the "bloopers" during the end credits - at least i laughed.

1 out of 5 stars Worst of the three.......2007-12-26

Santa clause 3 is by far the most boring movie of the trilogy. While on the first movie we got to see how scot became santa and in the second how he found the love of his life in this entry we see NOTHING. Scot is a happy santa living with his family and giving presents for the christmas. So what the heck ?
Of course after a long time in the movie the villain reveals himself and he was the most laughable villain i ever saw. Frost wanted to take santas' place because the movie HAD to show something and santa "axcepted" saying the fateful words "i wish i was never a santa" thus, jack became the new santa clause until ofcourse the real santa changed his mind and decided to take his job back BUT by that time i walked out of the theater because i had ENOUGH.
If i were u i would have sticked to Santa clause parts 1 and 2. Avoid this one by any costs.

4 out of 5 stars Santa Faces a Third Clause.......2007-11-20

Christmas is coming, and things are busier then ever at the North Pole. Not only does Scott Calvin, aka Santa (Tim Allen), have to get ready to deliver toys all over the world, but his wife Carol (Elizabeth Mitchell) is getting ready for a delivery of her own.

She is also missing her family. So Scott decides to invite her parents (Alan Arkin and Ann-Margret) to visit for the holiday. Scott's ex-wife and her family also manage to get an invitation as well. But the visiting family only adds to the stress load.
But that's the last of Scott's problems. Jack Frost (Martin Short) feels left out. He wants his own big holiday, not just to be the front-runner of the big red guy. When he is almost tossed from the Society of Enchanted Beings, he talks Scott into letting him help get everything ready for the big day.

Unfortunately, Jack's real mission is to sabotage Santa's job and learn the secret of the escape clause. If he can do that, he'll take over the role of Santa and leave Scott with nothing. Will he succeed?

I love the first film in the series and enjoy the second. This one is just as enjoyable. Yes, the story is predictable, but it is entertaining and heartwarming. I felt like cheering at the end.

And the actors continue to do a great job. The entire cast from the first two movies is back, with one noticeable exception. David Krumholtz wasn't able to return as Bernard. While his character was missed, it didn't hurt the film too much.

There is lots to laugh at in this movie. There are lots of great puns on the word elf and some great visual gags as well. Unfortunately, the Canadian jokes (they pretend to be Canadian for the in-laws), do where thin fast, eh? I especially enjoyed the way they worked bits of the first film into this one.

Is this the magical classic the first one was? Nope. Is it still an entertaining Christmas movie? You'd better believe it.

5 out of 5 stars JUST WHAT I EXPECTED.......2007-11-18

Up north at the Pole, Santa (a.k.a. Scott Calvin) is busier than ever before. Balancing your family life and your work is never easy, especially if you're Santa Claus. Scott's had to deal with delays in the toy factory and his wife Carol was due to give birth to their first child at any time. As if this weren't enough, Scott had been called to an emergency meeting of the Council of Legendary Figures. Easter Bunny, Sandman, Father Time, Tooth Fairy, Cupid and Mother Nature were all there. The point of the meeting was to determine discipline for that sinister and jocular figure of winter: Jack Frost, who has been trying to upstage Santa Claus on numerous occasions. Jack appeared before the council and pleaded his case, begging for one more chance. Scott decided to give Jack the benefit of the doubt and took him under his wing, making him a trustee at the workshop, helping the elves, working under the command of the rigid Number 1 Elf Curtis. But Jack had something cooking up his frosted sleeve...

Carol wished her parents could be at her side and so, Scott decided to bring her parents, Bud and Sylvia, to the North Pole and protect his secret at the same time, thus making the Pole seem like Canada. He also reluctantly invited his niece Lucy, along with Neil and Laura. Scott tried his best to make a good impression with the in-laws, while Neil, Laura and Lucy were tickled to death at the elves and the workshop; Jack Frost, meanwhile, began sabotaging the equipment and nearly burned down the kitchen. Big-mouth Curtis accidentally let it slip about the snow-globe room that housed snow globes of all past Santas. Scott Calvin had one too. It was his veritable "escape clause". Jack saw it as the perfect opportunity to make himself Santa, so using his usual trickery, he used his icy breath to freeze Neil and Laura and locked them, along with Lucy, in the closet then tricked Scott into using the snow globe and instantly they were transported back to 1994 where Jack--not Scott- put on Santa's robe. Flashforward back to 2006, Scott Calvin is his old miserable self again. Laura and Charlie wanted nothing to do with him. He had never even met Carol, and worst of all: Jack Frost had turned the North Pole into a tourist trap, which Neil and Lucy were currently visiting. So, Scott hopped the next commercial flight to the Pole.

Santa's old village had become a nightmare. It now represented everything wrong with Christmas: commercialism and greed. Parents could even buy their children a spot on the "nice" list. Utter chaos! In fact, the holiday known as Christmas was now Frostmas! Well, Neil and Lucy wanted nothing to do with Scott, but he was somehow able to charm Lucy into helping him. So, when Santa (a.k.a. Jack Frost) put on a Broadway-style show for the guests, Scott jumped him and tricked him into using the snow-globe. So once again, back to 1994 in which Scott manages to put on the coat and, once back to the present, Scott is Santa again. He immediately made amends with his wife and in-laws, but there was one little problem: Laura and Neil were still frozen and Jack could only unfreeze them by unfreezing himself, which he refused to do. But it was thanks to a warm hug from a little girl that melted Jack's icy heart--as well as Laura and Neil--and he became a new man! So, with their help, as well as help from Charlie and the Legendary Figures, they got the workshop back on track, and before Scott knew it, he became a father again! Buddy Claus was born. And so, Santa, Mrs. Claus, their family and friends and all the elves lived happily ever after...

Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause...it's a good movie. A little slow to start and corny at times, but it's a good movie. Tim Allen shines again as jolly ol' St. Nick! Martin Short is Jack Frost. The iceman cometh! The sexy Elizabeth Mitchell is back as Carol Calvin (Mrs. Claus), Judge Reinhold returns as Neil, Wendy Crewson returns as Laura, Eric Lloyd returns as Charlie, Liliana Mumy returns as Lucy, and Spencer Breslin returns as Curtis. We've also got Alan Arkin and Ann Margaret. All very good performances. Fans of the series will notice David Krumholtz is missing as Bernard. It just wasn't the same without Bernard. I think they could've used him. Well, his loss; I also like how they edited scenes from the original Santa Clause into this movie. And I've always wondered what would happen if Santa had children of his own. Maybe that's why he brings toys to all the children of the world as he had none of his own...until now. So anyway, if you're in the holiday spirit early this year, and you saw the first two Clauses, then by all means see the third and final yuletide outing. It's got heart, it's got humor, it's got a lot of cool things. I recommend it! And be good for goodness sake.

The Santa Clause 2 [2002]

Amazon.co.uk Review

Considering how lame this sequel could have been, The Santa Clause 2 makes for a pleasant seasonal diversion. It's got the familiar smell of Disney marketeering, and more than a few parents will object to this further embellishment of the St Nick legend, but Tim Allen's amiable presence provides ample compensation. As a divorced dad who inherited the jolly man's job in The Santa Clause, Allen now faces another Yuletide challenge. According to the "Missus Clause" in his North Pole contract, he can't continue to be the real Santa until he gets married. As luck and five credited screenwriters would have it, Allen falls for the Scroogey principal (Elizabeth Mitchell) of his son's school, while a phoney, power-hungry duplicate Santa wreaks havoc on the North Pole's overworked elves. It's all as sweet as spiced eggnog, with that warmed-over feel of a mandated sequel, but the Christmas spirit does prevail with the sound of sleigh bells and Allen's rosy-cheeked "Ho, ho, ho!". --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars STILL FUNNY.......2007-11-18

Premise: Scott Calvin has been Santa Claus for the past eight years, and his loyal elves consider him the best Santa ever. But Santa's world is turned upside down when he's dealt a double whammy of bad news: not only has his son, Charlie, landed on this year's `naughty' list, but if Scott doesn't marry by Christmas Eve, he'll stop being Santa forever. Desperate, Scott turns to the elves' new invention - a machine that can replicate anything - to create Santa II and he leaves his double in charge. Things quickly go south at the North Pole when Santa II institutes some strange redefinitions of what's naughty and nice; worse, when Scott finally falls for a potential Mrs. Claus, she threatens to drive a wedge between him and Charlie. In a climactic battle pitting Santa, Charlie, the new Mrs. Claus, and the elves against Santa II and his army of tin soldiers, the future of Scott's family, the North Pole, and Christmas itself, hangs in the balance.

After a horrorific Halloween, the last thing you would expect would be a Christmas themed film. But here we are with the sequel to the 1994 smash hit, The Santa Clause. The movie opened modestly but soon gained popularity and was selling to packed houses over the Thanksgiving weekend. It just made natural sense for the Walt Disney Company to return with a sequel. The Santa Clause 2 was originally slanted for release in 2001 but the executives at Disney became aware that sequels to moderately old films won't automatically become the same hit as the original after 102 Dalmatians flopped in 2000 thanks in part to The Grinch. After the script was revised, Tim Allen finally returns as the big guy after eight years. But this time around, he doesn't have his hit TV show to bring in the sure-fire crowd like before. Will The Santa Clause 2 be as magical as the original or will the sequel follow the same steps as 102 Dalmatians?

The story goes that Scott Calvin has been Santa for eight years and it declared the best Santa ever by his elves and the children of the world. But his helper elves find that they missed a clause in his contract that states that he must get married before Christmas Eve or else he will not be Santa ever again. On top of this delema, his son Charlie has been found on the naughty list for incidents at school that involve his principal, who Scott soon falls head over heels for. But he soon must return to the North Pole as the temporary toy replacement takes in new order at the North Pole. The story was very well done. It introduced all the original characters in very nice fashion and brings good attention to brand new ones like Curtis, the keeper of the Santa handbook. One of the especially good parts was how they introduced Miss Mitchell and how she soon came to be the love interest of Scott Calvin a.k.a. Santa Claus. There were little or no problems with the story that tries hard to live up to the original.

The characters in The Santa Clause 2 are very funny and do a great job of bringing the audience into the holiday world of the North Pole. Tim Allen is as funny as ever reprising his famous role as the big guy himself, Santa Claus. Spence Breslin is very amusing as Curits and really shows off his mature acting abilities in a comedy, which will be needed when he appears in The Cat in the Hat with Mike Myers in 2003. Elizabeth Mitchell is great as Charlie's principal. She really brings the romance into this familty comedy that is needed to offset some of the goofiness that happens all around but doesn't draw too much attention away from other important scenes. All the original characters are back and do a extraordinary jobs returning to their old roles.

Overall, The Santa Clause 2 is as funny or better then the 1994 original in many areas of the story and characters. Though the movie does seem perfect but there are slight flaws to this beautifully wrapped package. The main problem is the moral lesson expressed in the film. They are stated in lines of the film and come off as way too tacky especially with the emotional music playing. This is okay for a family audience but can get on nerves to older audience. This does not ruin the film in the least. The Santa Clause 2 does everything it sets out to achieve and does so with great flare. If this film does well enough, you might expect another sequel but even if this is the last chapter in the Santa Clause films then it goes off on a fabulous note. If there is one holiday film to take your kids to see this November, take them to see The Santa Clause 2. You won't forget it and neither will your kids after they are done laughing their heads off. And no worries for adults, the jokes appeal to both children and adults. Look for hidden Disney jokes and even a few Buzz Lightyear lines slipped into the story. One of the few films that lives up to the original.

4 out of 5 stars Santa Wants a Wife for Christmas.......2007-01-08

Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) has settled into his new role as Santa Claus. In fact, he loves it. And kids the world over have never been happier.

Unfortunately, this Christmas Scott's hit a couple snags. First, his son Charlie (Eric Lloyd) is acting up. In fact, after he's caught spray painting the school, he winds up on Santa's naughty list.

Even more pressing, elf Curtis (Spencer Breslin) has discovered another clause. It seems Santa needs a Mrs. Claus or he will stop being Santa. In fact, he's already loosing weight and returning to his original form. If he isn't married by Christmas, he'll cease being Santa forever.

Naturally, the month before Christmas is the busiest time of the year for Santa and the elves. So he leaves behind a robot duplicate of himself and heads to his ex-wife's house. He hopes to reconnect with Charlie and find someone willing to marry him. So why is the first person to catch his eye the Christmas hating principal of Charlie's school (Elizabeth Mitchell)? Will it work, or is Scott doomed to cease being Santa forever?

The first movie is one of my favorite Christmas films. In fact, I watch it every year. While this sequel doesn't capture all the charm of the original, this is still a fun movie. It's nice seeing the entire cast of the first movie back, and they do a good job. The climax is funny and sweet. And the special effects are wonderful.

This sequel is just a step down from the original. It's not a must watch, but if I have the time I enjoy it.

5 out of 5 stars Santa Clause 2 - hohoho.......2006-05-08

Wanna get into the Christmas Spirit? Then watch this on Christmas Eve cause I always do. If you want to get back to being the person you used to be before we all grew up then watch SC2 either the nite before Santa visited or just before you go down stairs to see if the Big Guy with the white beard has decided if you have been naughty or nice. Great cast - Tim Allen funny as usual. Elizabeth Mitchell proving what a great actress she can be with the right film (check out Frequency by the way). Rumour has it there will be a Santa Clause 3. Will I be there. you bet I will.

It is very good film and quiet interesting in different scene. It more enjoy it watching it and more christmas fun movie.

Having loved SC 1 I recently bought SC 2. It is different, the characters having grown up, etc. since the first film, but still the importance of being Santa Clause is confirmed and accepted by both children and adults alike. As usual though it is the adults who need more convincing. But once alongside their loyalty seems to be total. So there you are, out there, all you adults, this film gives you permission to accept your 'inner child'.

    Amazon.co.uk Review

Tim Allen makes an impressive screen debut in Disney's well-written seasonal film The Santa Clause. Divorced toy company executive Scott Calvin is pleased to have his son Charlie for Christmas, though the boy himself isn't happy about it. But when Santa Claus accidentally topples off the roof of the house and falls with a thud in the snow, Scott finds himself taking the merry old elf's place and earning new respect in his son's eyes. When the night ends, the reindeer take them to the North Pole, and Scott discovers that by donning the fabled red suit, he's inadvertently agreed to become the next Santa Claus. The next morning he wakes up in his own bed and thinks it's all a dream--but Charlie remembers it with crystal clarity. Scott now has to deal with his suspicious ex-wife (Wendy Crewson) and her psychiatrist boyfriend (Judge Reinhold), who both think he's playing tricks with Charlie's mind, and also with his own out-of-control body, which is putting on weight and growing a prodigious beard. The Santa Clause probably won't supplant It's a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street as anyone's favourite Christmas viewing, but it's an enjoyable, straightforward family film, anchored by the affable charisma of Allen. --Bret Fetzer
