Entertainment X.......2008-01-24
This may be no better than the SE version that the previous reviewer mentions but if you don't own that (and I don't) then theres nothing wrong with this, especially at the right price. The extras are pretty substantial and mostly very interesting.
The film itself maintains the standard set by its predecessor. The secret of both the first two movies is giving Sir Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart plenty of screen time. Notionally Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is the lead character, and he is good, but it is the sometime Shakespearean actors who give these films the touch of class that many comic strip films lack. Add in the ever reliable Brian Cox and you actually have a classy cast.
My favourite scene is Magneto's escape from his plastic prison, which is perhaps the highpoint of the film. This scene looks as if its came straight from the comic book form and it works perfectly on film as well. Bryan Singer, who also directed the first film, keeps the excitement levels high throughout, without going completely over the top.
I felt the film was a little to long, but that aside, I found it an entertaining film that holds up to repeated viewings.
Nothing new here except a a new scam.......2007-07-15
Well I just bought this DVD and the only difference is that it has apparently better graphics and audio. You really can't tell at all. It was a waste of money. I knew they were holding back on material as in the commentary where all the mutants are being killed it is stated by Singer that they were going to have Beast in that part in his furry form but that it never made the final cut and we'd see it in the deleted scenes... well we didn't.
Calling this definitive made me think that the material they'd been holding out on would be on this. but no it's just another lame attempt to make money by giving the audio another mix and apparently tweaking the graphics. I feel so incredibly cheated. This is by no means definitive but the title implies we will never see the footage that Fox is holding out on. This DVD is the same as the SE version, the only discenable difference is the cover.
Pathetic!

"Are you ready? Are you ready? LET'S GET IT ON!".......2007-02-14
I bought my mother UFC 5&6 for Christmas but after watching it myself I was hooked. This really is the ultimate combat sport.
UFC 13 "The Ultimate Force" features the Octagon debuts of two UFC legends - Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz. The bouts are: Christophe Leininger vs Guy Mezger/ Enson Inoue vs Royce Alger/ Dmitri Stepanov vs steven Graham/ Randy Couture vs Tony Halme/ Guy Mezger vs Tito Ortiz/ Steven Graham vs Randy Couture.
The main event "Superfight" pits David "Tank" Abbott against the "phenom" Vitor Belfort. Anyone familiar with a fully prepared Belfort will have a good idea of the result.
UFC 14 "Showdown" features a bout between UFC Champion Mark Coleman and World Kickboxing Champion Maurice Smith. The other bouts are: Yuri Vaulin vs Joe Moreira/ Todd Butler vs Kevin Jackson/ Mark Kerr vs Moti Horenstein/ Daniel Bobish vs Brian Johnston/ Tony Fruklund vs Kevin Jackson/ Mark Kerr vs Daniel Bobish.
For me the real star of the UFC is the referee "Big" John McCarthy whose professionalism and obvious concern for the fighters has made him a legend - and rightly so - everyone knows what he says before a fight.
There isn't a bad fight to be seen and at 360 minutes of action you bet it's five stars.
