Superb coaching DVD for the beginner or improver.......2006-02-07

I am fairly new to the world of golf, and I have watched a few golf DVDs that provide instruction on the basics of the game. However, none have come close to the clear and detailed information provided by this DVD.

Something that most beginners and high-handicappers need help with is their swing, and you will do well to find better instruction on building a consistent swing than the one Simon Holmes provides. Holmes covers all aspects of the swing, breaking it down and slowly progressing in stages to the full swing. He also demonstrates a number of drills you can try on the practice range to cement the aspects you need to improve on. There are additional shorter sections on Bunkers, Chipping and Putting which also provide useful techniques you can use on the course to help improve your game and your scoring.

It is very welcome to find a DVD not aimed at the US market - the coach is British and the DVD concentrates solely on the content with no extra baggage. The content doesn't feel scripted at all and the presentation is simple, effective and different in style to the coaching lessons on say, the Golf Channel.

In an ideal world, I would like to have seen more detail on the short game, but the content provided is more than enough to warrant buying this DVD.

It's the next best thing to visiting the Pro at your local course and I hope Simon produces more DVDs in the future. Currently (February 2006) this is the No 1 Golf DVD and deservedly so.

read the hogan book, read the nicklaus book, watched a woosnam video... and then i gave this a try. If like me you are starting out and playing off of a high handicap i can only tell you this... if you want to improve your swing buy this dvd!!
It is explained so easily, the chapters on swing, putting, chipping is broken down nicely.
I took a small part of the dvd and applied it to my swing to make it more consistant and the results are already very pleasing!! Well done Simon Holmes... thankyou!

Deeply explanatory, perfectly paced- Excelent all round.......2005-10-28

I've played club golf for 30yrs off 17ish handicaps. Listening and watching Simon explain things clearly and in detail has hugely improved my understanding of how to use a golf club. I can hit a ball relatively well but what i struggle with is consistency of direction. Since listening to Simon, i'm able to take what i've learned to the range and understand what i'm aiming to get repeatedly good at and why it matters. I'd reccomend this to anyone with the patience to listen hard and to think about what is said, plus the perseverence to practice until the improvements become your routine. If you are looking for a quick fix, this DVD will not help- take up an easier sport.

I can't really add much more to laurentiuz's review apart from to emphasise how good this DVD is. What sets it apart from other products that I've seen is the way in which Simon Holmes explains WHY you should do things in a certain way and HOW faults at address and in your swing actually manifest themselves in the end result.

Sure this is explained in other products, but it's just the way that he explains it that makes it so clear. They've also taken the time to give an exhaustive description of all the components of the swing and how they fit together, with drills/exercises in between, allowing you to built up your technique.

Overall, the DVD is around 2.5hrs long, so it's very good value. I very much recommend it.

Very comprehensive golf lesson.......2004-09-26

This guy knows what he is talking about! Every aspect of the game is talked about in great detail, and Simon Holmes make it all seem very straight forward. The DVD is set up so that you can focus on different aspects of the game, such as the swing, putting, chipping, and bunkers. Then each of the sections has many sub sections that explore the area in detail.

After just one watch of the dvd, I had picked up many aspects of my game that i was doing wrong and the corrections made have already lowered my score and made me more confident on the course.

Myths dispelled.......2007-07-09

Purchased the DVD a week ago and have been pleasantly surprised so far. Simon Holmes has a rather quirky manner but seems to get away with it. Possibly something to do with the excellent instruction. The myth that has been dispelled for me was the initial move away from the ball. I have purchased many books and videos in the past all of which advocating moving the club and body away from the ball at the same time. Holmes is totally opposite, showing how he prefers to start the club away. His explanation as to why he makes the move he does, rather than the body move made perfect sense, and explained a lot about my own game.
The DVD has a good menu which does in fact make it easy to dip in and out of depending on what you need to work on.
He is also one of the first instructors I have seen that makes it clear that not everyone is the same and what suits one person is not always right for you.
The DVD medium is excellent for golf instruction as freezing at any point is a lot clearer and simpler than any of the old videos I have.

As a complete golf addict who has struggled to find a product to releive me of my golfing faults I was delighted with my wifes purchase of Simon Holmes Digital Golf School as a present for her husband. Its the first instruction package [i have tried many] that I have really managed to get a hold of and understand from the offset.

Good clear instruction, not overdone, just simple and clear, just as most amatures require. The quality of the actual DVD is the best I have ever seen, simple chapters alow you to locate the section you most need to work on and just get on with it, no fuss, again quick and simple. if instead you want to watch the whole film, you can, without chapters.

At 2.5 hours long its such good value for money, my only complaint is that no one had told me about it earlier.

I have never written a review on a product before as I have never felt the need too. This was different, I had too, its simply so very very good.

Great golf dvd.......2004-05-11

This dvd is great. I have seen at least four of leadbetter's video's (noe dvd's), and this is one is so much better.
First of all, Simon Holmes is a great teacher. Unlike most instructional guides, he is not interested in teacing you "the perfect and only correct way to swing" or something like that. What he does is tell what the different parts of your swing motion do, and explains why you should try to put the to use. Basically he gives drills and tips that are easy to understand and to learn.

The dvd consists of four parts. The swing (also a small section for the driver, and of course the fade and the draw), the chip (three different chip shots here), the bunker and putting. These parts are again devided into several parts, making it easy to look back on certain areas of interest right away. This is very helpful.
There are also easy drills for curing slicing and hooking.

The only things that are not covered are medium to long putts. Some might also miss the pitch shot, but you can easily use the other techniques in the dvd to understand this shot.
