A PRETTY GOOD LEAD UPTO WRESTLEMANIA.......2007-10-09
The WWE's second PPV of the year was a fairly good effort and provided a decent set-up for next month's WrestleMania XIX. The crowd, also, in Montreal proved entertaining during a number of matches due to their complete unpredictability. Anyhow, here's the matches in the order in which they occurred: (each match is rated out of 10)
MATCH 1-- CHRIS JERICHO vs JEFF HARDY. I was disappointed with this match the first time I saw it, but it gets better each time I watch it.
As an opening match it's good- it's allowed to go for a nice 15 minutes or so & there's some good near falls (for Hardy, his Swanton and Old school expulsion-like Twist of Fate and for Jericho, a soft-looking Lionsault and a Sleeper drop). There are a few faults with the match though- Jeff messes up a fair few spots (a weird roll-up near the end and a jawbreaker where he falls flat on his back) which sort of took away from the action.( Plus, Jeff looks like he's come straight from a paintball tournament.) In the end, Jericho powerbombs Jeff off the second rope and locks in what they're calling the Walls of Jericho, but what is actually just a run-of-the-mill Boston crab. Jeff taps anyway to this butchered Walls. HBK saves Jeff from the "Walls" after the match- he comes out to boos (Survivor Series 97) but ends up being cheered, which is weird because Jericho started off the match to boos, but the crowd switched to his side halfway through. (7.5)
MATCH 2-- STORM & REGAL vs RVD & KANE. OK match. Not wonderful. Storm hits a nice DDT halfway into it, but that's about it. The finish is, like one later in the evening, one you'll either like it or you won't: Storm messes with Kane's mask so he can't see, RVD is pushed into him and gets Chokeslammed. Regal covers RVD for the pin. (5)
MATCH 3-- MATT HARDY (v1.0) vs BILLY KIDMAN. Another match that grew on me after a second viewing. Matt & Kidman are two of Smackdown's greatest talents and this is a fine match. Hardy has some good offense during the match (his Side effect is impressive and Kidman takes Matt's Twist of Fate perfectly) and pulls out the win w/ a top rope Twist of Fate for the pin and the Cruiserweight Title. The crowd wasn't into this at all, which is a pity since it was one of the best matches of the night. (8)
MATCH 4-- THE UNDERTAKER vs BIG SHOW. Ugly. It's so slow at one point that Show hits 6 elbow drops (slowly) in succession as well as 5 headbutts. The only highlight of the match is Taker's plancha to Heyman and Albert (I refuse to call him A-Train- it's ridiculous). 'Taker wins with an abnormally quick chokeout w/ the Triangle hold. (The ref called for the bell way too quick) (3)
MATCH 5-- LESNAR & BENOIT vs TEAM ANGLE (HAAS, BENJAMIN & KURT ANGLE). Edge didn't compete due to a neck injury that will keep him out for a year, so they had it that Team Angle ambushed him in the back before the match. Good match as expected. Bit slow in the middle, but some great action towards the end. Lesnar F5s Angle while Charlie Haas is trapped in the Crossface. Haas taps out and Lesnar and Benoit win. (8)
MATCH 6-- TRIPLE H vs SCOTT STEINER. Big surprise as the Montreal crowd boo the crap out of Steiner and cheer The Game. The match is marred by too much interference by Evolution (though Flair's eyerake to Steiner and subsequent strut is pure gold!). Triple H manages to escape the Steiner recliner and blast him in the head with the World title. One Pedigree later and HHH leaves with the gold. Not a bad match. (6)
"MATCH" 7-- STONE COLD vs ERIC BISCHOFF. No surprise here. 4 Stunners to Bischoff from Austin, who's enjoying himself. JR goes way OTT and is advis ed by Tazz, after, to switch to decaf. Funny stuff. OK return for Stone Cold.
MATCH 8-- THE ROCK vs HULK HOGAN. New entrance vid for The Rock (very cool). Short return match between these two with a weird but excellent ending. Hogan hits the Legdrop and a guest ref (local guy) counts 1-2.. lights out. When the lights come back on, the ref is unconscious and there's a chair beside him. (I was thinking Vince at this point, then Goldberg when Vince was on the ramp, but it turns out it was the ref who was crooked). The Rock nails Hogan with the chair and Rock bottoms him. The ref springs to life and counts the 3! Interesting. (7)
Overall, No Way Out was pretty good- both Hardys had good matches, the 5 man tag was impressive and Rock-Hogan II was short, but sweet. It also set up feuds leading into WMXIX- Jericho vs Shawn Michaels (should be a classic), 'Taker vs Albert (should stink up the card), and Vince vs Hogan (should be awful!) A good night's entertainment.
Decent.......2005-02-01
You may look at this pay per view and see The Rock vs Hulk Hogan,Stone Cold vs Eric Bischoff and Triple h vs Scott Steiner
this may all look like good matches but none of them were half as good as I expected them to be.
Triple H vs Scott Steiner for the world heavyweight championship was boring entirely because any match with Scott Steiner involved is usually rubbish and slow.
Stone Cold vs Eric Bischoff was boring because Eric Bischoff didn`t fight back and Stone Cold dominated the whole match.
The Rock vs Hulk Hogan - The Rock was playing a pointless heel at the time when most idiot fans thought he was evil when he was simply just having a change of character.
But as for the match it was the second worst match on pay per view I have ever seen, but the first worst pay per view match being goldberg vs Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania xx.
The Rock simply just kept leaving the ring for no reason and the lights went out for Rock to get the win.
So the 3 main events were totally dissapointing but if you want to see some good matches they are all the earlier matches like
Brock Lesnar and Chris Benoit vs Team Angle
The match was fast paced and Entertaining 9/10
Chris Jericho vs Jeff Hardy
Great athletes in a great match, my favourite matchof the pay per view . 9/10
Billy Kidman vs Matt Hardy ( cruiserweight championship )
Not bad but the whole match was dominated by Matt, not your typical cruiserweight match. 7/10
Kane and Rob Van Dam vs Lance Storm and William Regal
This match was exciting and unpredictable until the pointless ending which nobody was expecting. 7/10
Big Show vs The Undertaker
This match was supposed to be Undertaker`s big match of revenge after Big Show took him out,the match was a bit too long and got a bit annoying when Undertaker couldn`t pick up Big Show to do any of his finisher moves. Not great. 5/10
So this DVD is not worth buying for THe Rock vs Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold vs Eric Bischoff or even Triple H vs Scott Steiner
because they are all a let down but the matches before are deffinitely worth checking out.
Pretty dam good!.......2004-01-27
Chris Jericho vs Jeff Hardy
A nice contrast in styles here. Jericho is someone who always gives 110%, and Jeff Hardy's high flying techniques make for a very good match.
8/10
WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Rob Van Dam & Kane vs William Regal & Lance Storm
Run of the mill tag title match with a nice ending.
7/10
CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Billy Kidman vs Matt Hardy
Not great but not bad either.
7/10
Undertaker vs The Big Show
A rare off night for Undertaker with a messy ending (it just doesn't seem to fit).
6/10
Kurt Angle & Team Angle vs Brock Lesnar, Chris Benoit & Edge
This became a handicap match when Edge was attacked backstage, but it was one of the best matches of the night (an especially good match from Lesnar).
8/10
WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Triple H vs Scott Steiner
I reviewed their first encounter for the Royal Rumble 2003 PPV and it was perhaps the worst title match in history. I was really expecting more of the same but fortunately it managed to improve on that match. It's funny listening to the crowd booing everything Steiner does :)
6/10
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Eric Bischoff
A novelty match, funny but more of a card filler really. Nice to see Austin back though.
7/10
The Rock vs Hulk Hogan
Their Wrestlemania 18 match was one of the most memorable matches in history, the crowd was unbelievable and both athletes really delivered. This time the heel Rock takes on face Hogan (roles reversed from last time, although the crowd were backing Hogan) and it's a different type of match, although still very entertaining. Hogan once again moves away from his normal predictable, linear style although once again The Rock steals the show. A really good screwjob ending concludes a suprisingly good PPV.
9/10 (1 point for the ending)
No Way Out and why not?.......2003-11-28
A very good PPV which I bought originally only to add to my collection. I thoroughly enjoyed the event a lot more than I did the first time I saw it probably because I enjoy watching it at the original air time of 1 am.
It did begin with a very interesting match between Jeff Hardy and Chris Jericho which could have gone a lot better. A part which I found funny was the appearance of HBK where the Canadian crowd didn’t know whether to boo or cheer for him in his first appearance in Canada since Survivor Series 1997.
The next match was a letdown in result but not in its quality. Lance Storm is terrifically underrated and his performance against Kane and RVD almost allows for William Regal’s poor ability. As a fan of Kane I did enjoy this match immensely.
The cruiserweight match next as per usual had some great moves comparing the excellent Billy Kidman versus the underrated Matt Hardy. Both have a good ability and so does Mattitude follower Shannon Moore and this all leads up to a great title match.
The next match is a good attempt at a match between Taker and the man that can’t wrestle- The Big Show. In other attempts it might have been OK. Why they had to drag the Storyline onto Wrestlemania IXX I will never know. If you’re looking for a fight between two giants pick up a WWF match between Big Show and Kane. Much Better.
This handicap match I found much, much better and even voted for it as match of the night. The superb athleticism and ability of Team Angle and the technical ability of Chris Benoit made this match that much better. Only Drawbacks- No Edge, out with an injury and also the novelty act known as Brock Lesnar. Power only lasts as an attraction for a limited time when you can’t wrestle.
Steiner Vs Triple H. Let us never speak of it again.
Next is Austin’s return not exactly a match but a Stone Cold ass whuppin’. It’s fun but not technical. (Bischoff was in it. What did you expect match of the year?)
Rock/Hogan II. This wasn’t the best match purely because it didn’t have the atmosphere of X8. Hogan has never been technical but the pure genius of the screwjob more than makes up for it. Roll on to IXX.
what a load of crap.......2003-11-23
Im not gonna lie, this event sucked so badly, one of the worst i have ever seen. Heres some match info:
Chris Jericho vs. Jeff Hardy
Not terrible, but not great. Predictable winner 5/10
World Tag Team Championship Match
Rob Van Dam & Kane vs. William Regal & Lance Storm
Not amazing, but funny to see Kane chokeslam RVD 6/10
WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match
Billy Kidman vs. Matt Hardy
I like Kidman, so i was kinda annoyed when that big-mouthed cruiserweight-wannabe won. Not a bad match though 6/10
The Undertaker vs. The Big Show
Dull, and very slow 5/10
Handicap Match
Team Angle vs. Brock Lesnar & Chris Benoit
The one good match. Definitely the best of the ppv and provides more buildup for wrestlemania 8/10
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Triple H vs. Scott Steiner
Oh my god, didnt they learn from the Royal Rumble that Steiner cannot put on a good performance to save his life? Thank god Steiners not in main events anymore 1/10
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Eric Bischoff
Austin's return, and it was great to see bischoff get his ass kicked, not much of a match though 7/10
The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan
I personally have never really liked either of these two, especially Hogan, i mean come on, what kind of finisher is a leg drop?!?! This match was the worst of the night, worse than HHH vs Steiner, the Rock just pussied out for most of it. Only good bit was at the end when Hogan got screwed, im just glad neither of these guys are around much anymore 0/10
