3 out of 5 stars good but some shocking matches as well .......2007-12-20

One month prior to wrestlemania 20,no way out occured,a totally smackdown brand event, this event relied heavily on storylines which started weeks earlier to give the event added hype and interest.
The events first two matches were patchy enough so the signs werent good on that basis, the opening match had scotty 2 hotty and rikeshi in a handicap match against the basham brothers along with shaniqua who is no ordinary woman, she was bodyslamming like a good one.The match was sludgy and not that captivating and passed without rasing any pulses.
The next match came with vast hype, jamie noble had previously 'blinded' his girlfriend nidia after he saw her as money grabber, when she revealed that for months she had faked the blindness it was decided that they should fight and that he should be blindfolded and so it was,the match was poor with a novelty value stamped to it that tried to gain laughs and frolics, nidia creeping up behind jamie and kicking him in the behind and so on,thankfully it doesnt last long but it certainly stopped the flow of this,oh yeah the event hadnt really got going yet, could the next match make up for things?Yes!
The worlds greatest tag team, once known as team angle, benjamin and haas against the APA,this match was lively and forceful and pleasing so all good there then.
Next up was hardcore holly against rhyno, this wasnt that memorable but contained some good moments, holly performed well here and ryno huffed and puffed his way through but did his reputation no real harm, not a classic but not really a filler.
Next up was the cruiserweight title match between chavo and rey mysterio, this was a fiercely fought contest with yards of scientific wrestling, skill and intent, this match flew by and contained more thrills than all the previous matches put together.
Next up was a triple threat match with the winner getting a title shot at the following months wrestlemania,we had john cena vs the big show vs kurt angle. This was another good match with three men wanting the prize at stake with all they had,it didnt last that long but didnt waste any moments of its time, the ending was good and paved the way for the main event nicely.
The main event was an epic,in fact it was half a hour long, the champ lesnar who was leaving the company shortly after against eddie guerrero who waited so long for this moment. The match was packed with ability, for long parts of the match eddie looked outclassed, brock was one of the industries great powerhouses who also could wrestle any way you wanted him too, watching him being locked in figure four leg lock and pulling eddie along the ground was something i could barely believe ,it was the way he did it that impressed. The match was filled with close calls, some blood, refs flying in knocked out stance, everything, packed to the rafters with ability, guile and heart and in the end a winner was found and what a way to end this event.
It has always been my view that RAW was and is better than smackdown and that didnt change with this event which had to be dragged kicking and screaming to its eventual greatness, look no further than two months after this and the all RAW event backlash for proof of that, but in saying that this event has some classic matches but certainly some poor stuff,3 stars and not a star more.

5 out of 5 stars fatty thoughts.......2007-10-29

the match of the night is eddie vs lesnar great and emotional match with a great ending

4 out of 5 stars Viva La Raza.......2007-02-04

WWE Tag Team Title Handicap Match
Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty vs The Basham Brothers and Shaniqua 6/10
A decent start to a decent match but I don't know why they have made it a handicap match by putting Shaniqua in it

Boyfriend vs Girlfriend Match: Jamie Noble is Blind folded
Jamie Noble vs Nidia 5/10
This was a funny match even though it was short

The World's Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas) vs The Acolytes 6/10
Another decent tag team match with two contrasting styles and to see who will be the main contenders for the tag team titles

Rhyno vs Hardcore Holly 5/10
Some good wrestling but was a bit to long and could have been left off the PPV for all I cared

Cruiserweight Title Match
Rey Mysterio vs Chavo Guerrero Jr 7/10
Two of the greatest cruiserweights go at it in one of the best matches of the night

Number 1 Contenders Match for the WWE Title
Big Show vs John Cena vs Kurt Angle 7/10
Another great match but it was a bit short for a match of this calibre

WWE Title Match
Brock Lesnar vs Eddie Guerrero 10/10
This is the match of the night with excellent performances from both men and ever since this match Eddie has been pushed to the main event status that he finally deserves

SmackDown's first attempt at their first PPV of the year and they do a good job but if it wasn't for the main event, triple threat match and the cruiserweight title match this would have been terrible

4 out of 5 stars Eddy captures the gold.......2005-02-08

No way out had its rubbish matches then it had the great matches the first four mathces were pointless but the last three were great but the last three matches made the event especially when eddy beat brock for the wwe title it went down as one of the best moments in wwe history A must buy for any wwe fans just to see eddy climb to the top of the wwe mountain eddy on that night wount be known as addict he will simpley be known as wwe champion.

4 out of 5 stars One of my all time favourite matches!!!!!.......2004-11-25

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars SmackDown's downfall.......2004-04-18

SmackDown usually delivers great Pay-Per-Views but this one will be remembered for one, maybe two matches and one segment and nothing else.

WWE Tag Team Titles Handicap Match:
The Basham Brothers & Shaniqua vs. Scotty 2 Hotty & Rikishi
This match is absolutely dire. Five of the worst in WWE all put in one match. Shaniqua fails to sell her moves, and not one of the participants is over. A dud and nothing more.

Boyfriend vs. Girlfriend Blindfold Match:
Jamie Noble vs. Nidia
Good for comedy, but a pointless match nonetheless. This match makes Jamie look like a coward, and while it is entertaining, it's not a PPV-calibre match

The World's Greatest Tag Team vs. The APA:
Even the aptly-named World's Greatest Tag Team couldn't carry the APA to a decent match. Crowd was behind the match, and it wasn't awful, but way below the level expected of Benjamin and Haas.

Hardcore Holly vs. Rhyno
Absolutely pointless. Not even a basic rivalry, this match had no structure. Neither man was over, and I, along with the crowd in San Francisco, was glad when it ended.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match
Chavo Guerrero Jr. (w/Chavo Guerrero Sr.) vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. (w/Jorge Pias):
A match of the night contender, definitely. The underrated Cruiserweights Guerrero and Mysterio gave their all and their efforts paid off. The crowd was hot for this match, involving outside interference. The end result saw Chavo Sr. help his son win the championship, accompanied by a chorus of boos from the pro-Mysterio Californian crowd

#1 Contenders Triple-Threat Match
Kurt Angle vs. The Big Show vs. John Cena:
Decent match, but not one that will be remembered. Little rivalry, but an entertaining pre-match rap delivered by Cena to the Big Show. The crowd liked this match, and for the talent in the ring, it delivered the goods.

WWE Championship Match
Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar:
A definite candidate for match of the year. This was an emotional match in which the crowd was madly behind the underdog. The storylines to date built this match up well. An excellent match involving interference from Bill Goldberg.

5 out of 5 stars WWE at it's best!.......2004-04-14

No Way Out 2004 brought out the best in the WWE. For the past few months the pay per views had been a little dissapointing but this event showed that the WWE can still put on a good show.

Match 1: WWE Tag Team Championships
Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty (c) vs The Basham Brothers & Shaniqua
This was a good way to open the show with some good exchanges between Rikishi and Shaniqua. Entertaining match with a funny ending. ***1/2

Match 2: Jamie Noble vs Nidia
The added stipulation that Noble would have to wear a blindfold made the match a little more interesting but you could hardly call it a Match. It is mostly Nidia making fun of Noble. **

Match 3: APA vs SPWGTT
Decent match which was a late addition to the event card. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas look as though they both have very bright futures. ***

At this point Goldberg arrives in the arena and after being taunted by Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar, Goldberg enters the ring and delivers a huge jackhammer to Lesnar before being led away by the police.

Match 4: Hardcore Holly vs Rhyno
Another late addition to the card but both men put on a decent show. ***

Match 5: Cruiserweight Championship
Rey Mysterio (c) vs Chavo Guerrero
Fantastic match with many high flying manouevers and close finishes. Both competitors gave their all in this match which is a contendor for match of the night. *****

Match 6: Number 1 Contenders Match
Kurt Angle vs Big Show vs John Cena
The winner of this match would get a title shot at Wrestlemania XX and all three looked as though they really wanted that opportunity. John Cena did well despite having an injured knee and Kurt Angle always tries his hardest. Big Show is so dominant that he looks impossible to beat. Great match with the right person winning. ****1/2

Match 7: WWE Championship
Brock Lesnar (c) vs Eddie Guerrero
When you look at this match on paper it looks a certainty that Brock Lesnar will dominate and beat Guerrero. However, at No Way Out Guerrero battled more than he has ever battled before. He looked as though he knew this might be his only shot to capture the biggest prize in the WWE. This was an amazing match with Guerrero desperate to prove himslef in the business. Lesnar delivers many crushing moves whilst Guerrero delivers many techinical and aerial moves. The match is immense and has a great ending. *****

Overall No Way Out 2004 put the WWE back where it wants to be. The World and Cruiserweight Championship matches were class and the feud between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar is unbelievable. This is quality stuff and I hope the rest of the years events are as good as this one.
