The cover image on the DVD is enough to sell the video - but what did I think?.......2007-02-16
I suppose watching this DVD is a bit like interspersing Pro-Plus pills with Nytol.
Get excited by a flash of Dodge Challenger, nod off to someone explaining, in depth, the pro's and con's of downdraught carburettors.
Be invigorated by a roar of a flame-spitting Camaro, develop narcolepsy due to American with square shaped hair explaining the entire production cycle of a new Mustang.
For enthusiasts, and people with insomnia, it's a good watch with plenty of explanation of little details about muscle cars.
For petrolheads who get aroused by hot metal, it's a good DVD so long as you fast forward now and again.
Escapism at its best.......2006-01-13
Forget global warming for about 60 minutes. Nobody can argue the rumble of a large V8 reaches parts other noises cannot reach. This DVD has an hour's worth of both recent and archive footage of the golden age of the American muscle car and includes most of the greats from the 1950's forerunners to the Mustang and up to the 2005 Mustang and 2006 Dodge Charger.
The chapters are split as follows:
Silver State Classic - A time and speed challenge on a stretch of highway;
Big Red & Z2Z - A big snorting Camaro Z28 attempts the Z2Z (Zero to Zero) against a dodge viper;
Camaro up close - a little bit about the Camaro in its various forms;
Mustang up close - as above but for the Ford Mustang;
Ericsson & the 2005 Mustang - An interview with the designer of the gorgeous 2005 Mustang;
National Mustang Racing Association;
1969 AHRA Nationals;
1957 Chevy up close;
National Muscle car association, proving that a love for the V8 is still alive and kicking. The National Muscle car association appears to have something for everyone - drag racing on a budget or purpose built beasts that run into the $100k and beyond.
Dodge charger, one of the icons of the muscle car golden age. This chapter explains how it developed and has interviews with some owners.
Plymouth Hemi & Road runner, a bit about these two types of V8's, recognisable by their different shaped combustion chambers.
Hemi under Glass - a purpose built charger with its engine at the back so it travels with its nose in the air;
Dodge charger 2006 - A look at how Dodge have resurrected the Charger for the modern age;
1969 Nascar - Archive NASCAR footage;
General Lee - A bit about the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard, plus a bit about the stunt driving in the new movie;
Redneck rampage - a bit of tire bursting and messing about.
This is excellent for anyone with a love of raw horsepower and the muscle car scene, although it does stick on the less interesting bits for too long and the narrator sounds like Troy the documentary guy from the Simpsons.
