an absolute classic epic surf film.......2006-09-04
mike hynson and robert august travel the world in search of an endless summer in 1964. and that is it, simply put. travelling to various places including, west africa, south africa, australia, new zealand, tahiti (where there aren't any waves, only things) and of course hawaii! there are plenty of perfectly formed waves and incredibly long rides.
i love the old classic style of this film, both with the style of surfing (all on longboards) and the style of filming. but i think the best feature of this film is the running commentary by bruce brown. it's given with a completely hilarious dead-pan humour style.
any surfer, longboarder or shortboarder, must, i repeat must watch this film.
The Endless Summer.......2006-07-21
Bruce Brown's first Endless Summer is now mainly of historical interest. The age of the film makes no easy viewing at first. The sound is somewhat muffled, the music somewhat outdated and the camera work is that of the 1960s. However, I have seen the movie several times and each time it grew on me more, and I now like it. The story has no plot, the action is on the sport of surfing and the search of surf in the various countries visited. Bruce Brown's The Endless Summer is a good movie to have in your surf movie collection.
Interestingly, Bruce Brown comments on the arrival of porpoises at a Durban beach that sharks and porpoises have yet to integrate in South Africa [stress placed on 'in South Africa']. Porpoises and sharks will not be found together in the water. To the finer tuned ear a clear comment on the racial policies in South Africa during those years.
Bruce Brown's humour has improved in wit in his second Endless Summer which shows that his mind has definitely become younger over the years! The minds of surfers usually do.
Best Surf film EVER.......2004-11-02
I first watched this film on an out door screen on Manly Beach in Australia, with the surf breaking behind me.
The film sums up what surfing is all about. The best line has to be 'You should have been here yesterday'. It seems that where ever the guys travelled to, the surf was always better the day before. If you are into you surfing, this film is a must see!
living the dream.......2003-09-06
this film/documentary is about two surfers straight out of california living every surfers dream - the endless summer. Travelling to places that have never been surfed before and ripping it up they meet many strange and interesting locals on their travels. Combined with some hilarious commentary this really is worth of all five stars. A must for any surfer or surfer to be.

I first saw this film way back whilst off school one day, It so impressed me that I can still remember the great surf scenes cool dudes and hot chicks (60's speak not mine) years later it inspired a very hot and enjoyable stay in the heart of surf in the UK where the surf was good and the life easy. More recently I have returned to this Holy place to find non of the magic has gone, in fact with the Body boarders its even moor surf city. So if you have any surf in you see this film when/if you can it will inspire you to be and become. Oh and visit Uk surf city and drink at "Walkabout" and the "Sailor" the list goes on, just try you will enjoy....

IF YOU CAN GET PASSED THE SOMETIMES MISTY AND NOT SO HOT QUALITY IN DEFINITION, CONSIDERING WHEN IT WAS MADE,LATER CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE SHEAR SIZE OF WAVE KICKING UP DUST OBSCURING DEFINITION , BUT OTHERWISE REALLY WORTH HAVIN IN THE COLLECTION ,GETTIN EATIN BY A 40 FT SWELL AND SURVIVING TO TELL THE TALE WHETHER IN TOW IN SKI'S OR STRAPPED TO A BOARD ,IS QUALITY ALL ON IT'S OWN ,REALLY BIG SWELL AND REALLY IETHER CYCHO OR DONT LIKE THIS LIFE WANNABE'S RIDE THEM, LAAID , BUZZY,ROSS CLARKE , KEN BRADSHAW TO NAME A FEW ... GET IT.

perfect sequel to the classic epic.......2006-09-14
after 30 or so years, bruce brown decided to follow up his classic "endless summer" with this. whereas a lot of sequels are disappointing, this is just as good as the original, apart from it not being the original and obviously being from a different era!
this time round, surfers, 'wignut' the longboarder, and pat the shortboarder, decided to follow the original film and chase the summer round the world looking for perfect waves. they travel to more and different places and catch some awesome, perfectly formed waves with bruce brown giving the same style of humorous commentary
highlights for me are an amazing wipeout section, pat getting his best ever wave every time and one of wignut's waves where he loses his board due to riding leash-less, so he body-surfs in on a wave, grabs his board whilst still on the wave and stands on it. pretty amazing you may say, but what's even more amazing is that his board is actually upside down with his fin up in the air!! must be seen to be believed.
there are many other excellent moments on this film, and like the original, this film too is a must for all surfers. although its already been 12 years since this film was made, time will prove it to last as long as the original.
The Endless Sumer 2.......2006-06-26
The Endless Summer II is a very enjoyable film which you can watch over and over again. Bruce Brown's humour is infectious. On the serious side, the film shows everything from big wave surfing to boogie boarding and characteristics of the different countries visited during the endless summer. This makes it easy for every water nut to relate to the film. It contains the spirit of surfers and backpacking travellers alike. The film is uplifting and inspiring and may change your outlook on life. At a price of under 7 British pounds it is a bargain.

A Sequel of Endless Quality.......2001-12-31
30 years after the original, Bruce Browns updates the classic Endless Summer by again taking 2 Surfers on a holiday of a lifetime. They visit exotic locations following the summer sun around the world and on some occasions retracing the steps of the original film. Director Bruce Brown takes us round the world superbly with his informative narration of the Surfing hot spots.
This sequel is a classic that can be enjoyed by both surfers and non-surfers alike as all the locations are stunningly shot. There is not only great surfing action but also amusing land-based action. On one occasion whilst the 2 stars are on Safari in South Africa they have a close scrape with a pack of wild lions who decide they would like a ride in there Buggy.
Pat O'Connell and Longboarder 'Wing Nut' meet some of the top Surfers from the pro circuit as well as Robert August and Nat Young from the original. The Surfing footage with the Pro's shows 2 styles of surfing. This creates a great balance for the viewer who knows and enjoys his surfing techniques. The Endless Summer 2 shows and proves that surfing is a love to young and old around the globe.
A remake of the 1960's classic.......2000-03-10
The remake of the 1964 classic Endless Summer. Starring Robert 'Wingnut' Weaver and Patrick O'Connell who are determined to travel the globe in search of waves and sun. They use old surfing buddies and legends to find un-crowded waves all over the world. The film has some great comical moments from the narrator. Not quite as good as the original but if you live to surf then you should still watch this film.
