THE FIRST SMACKDOWN PPV.......2007-10-10
This wasn't really bad for the first exclusive Smackdown PPV of 2003, although it wasn't the best, but it was still good.
FIRST MATCH- CHRIS BENOIT VS. EDDIE GUERRERO IN THE FINALS OF THE US TOURNAMENT FOR THE WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP What a way to start Vengeance with two former best friends battling each other. The match took very long & it was good. While the referee is knocked down, Benoit has Eddie in the Crossface, Eddie is tapping out but there is no referee. Suddenly Rhyno interferes & nails the Gore on Benoit, followed by a Frog Splash by Eddie Guerrero. The groggy referee gets up just in time to count to 3 as Eddie has won the tournament & has became the new WWE United States Champion. 5/10
SECOND MATCH- BILLY GUNN W/ TORRIE Wilson VS. JAMIE NOBLE IF JAMIE NOBLE WINS, HE GETS TO SLEEP WITH TORRIE FOR ONE NIGHT IF BILLY GUNN WINS, THEN JAMIE NOBLE WILL NOT SLEEP WITH TORRIE Pretty boring match, Jamie Noble wins after a roll-up, but I don't think anyone cares. Guess Jamoe Noble gets one night with Torrie Wilson. 2/10
THIRD MATCH- WORLD'S GREATEST TAG TEAM {SHELTON BENJAMIN & CHARLIE HAAS} VS. REY MYSTERIO & BILLY KIDMAN FOR THE WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP This match was really good & long with great Cruiserweight moves from both Billy Kidman & Rey Mysterio. Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas get the hard fought win against Kidman & Mysterio to retain their WWE Tag Team titles. 5/10
FOURTH MATCH- BAR BRAWL INVITATIONAL {This was like a Bar Brawl match organized by APA, whoever knocks everybody out first are the winner. The wrestlers involved in this bar brawl are APA, Matt Hardy, Sean 'O' Haire, Doink The Clown, Dr. Love I don't remember the rest, sorry}. Cool I like this bar brawl, APA win after brutally knocking everybody out with beer bottles & other items etc. 4/10
FIFTH MATCH- STEPHANIE MCMAHON VS. SABLE Just a Diva match, nothing to see here as usual. A-Train interferes & nails a huge running charge on Stephanie {After the referee was distracted with Sable}. Sable covers Stephanie for the 3 count to get the win. 2/10
SIXTH MATCH- VINCE MCMAHON VS. ZACH GOWEN Zach Gowen is a good wrestler even though he has one leg. To me Zach Gowen in his first debut match here was really, really impressive. He made Vince McMahon busted so wide open. Vince McMahon got the win but the damage was done to him. 3/10
SEVENTH MATCH- UNDERTAKER VS. JOHN CENA Believe me this was really a good match. It was a bit long & it was perfect. Undertaker is busted open during the match. Cena nails whatever he can to try & wear Taker down but Taker fights back & nails a Chokeslam for the hard win here against Cena. 5/10
EIGHTH MATCH- BROCK LESNAR VS. KURT ANGLE VS. BIG SHOW IN A TRIPLE-THREAT MATCH FOR THE WWE CHAMPIONSHIP As the match starts both Angle & Lesnar gang up on Big Show & slam him through the announce table knocking him out. Then both Angle & Lesnar take it to each other as both these wrestlers know each other very well. Later Big Show comes & tries to get the advantage but Lesnar knocks him out. Then suddenly Angle comes from behind & nails an Angle Slam on Lesnar for the 3 count & for the win to become the new WWE Champion. 5/10
This wasn't really a bad Samckdown PPV even though it was the first in 2003. Raw in my opinion is way better than Smackdown.
Some great matches on the card.......2007-02-04
United States Title Match
Chris Benoit vs Eddie Guerrero 9/10
An excellent match between two great wrestlers
Indecent Proposal Match: If Jamie Noble wins he gets to spend a night with Torrie Wilson
Billy Gunn vs Jamie Noble 4/10
An ok match that felt like a card filler
APA Invitational Barroom Brawl Match
Participants are: The Acolytes, Brother Love, Brian Kendrick, Sho Funaki, Johnny Stamboli, Chuck Palumbo, Nunzio, Danny Basham, Doug Basham, Matt Hardy, Shannon Moore, Matthew Cappotelli, John Hennigan, Orlando Jordan, Easter Bunny, Doink The Clown, Los Conquistadores, Sean O'Haire, and A-Train 6/10
Very funny to watch but other than that it is very boring
WWE Tag Team Title Match
Billy Kidman and Rey Mysterio vs The World's Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) 7/10
A very fast paced match with lots of high flying moves
Stephanie McMahon vs Sable 3/10
A pretty boring cat fight
John Cena vs The Undertaker 6/10
Not that great of a match but Taker makes it worth while
Zack Gowen vs Vince McMahon 5/10
Not one of the best matches ever but I will give it something and you have got to give Gowen a bit of credit
WWE Title Triple Threat No Disqualification Match
Brock Lesnar vs Big Show vs Kurt Angle 8/10
A brutal match that was a bit short but was still one of the best triple threat matches around.
Very very interesting piece of work, you have here Vince!.......2006-07-11
I thought this event was pretty hit and miss, not a superb Pay-Per-View but not a total downer either. The opening bout is very good, a slow burning technical affair, really putting the show on good tracks. The APA brawl is also very entertaining, basically just a silly hardcore bout set in a mock bar (below the titan tron) with plenty of nostaglic stars to keep old fans happy and newbies to entertain. Then there is the best match on the card, the tag title bout is very strong, easily the match of the night, with an exciting fast pace and a series of great high-flying moves. Steph vs. Sable, and Undi' vs. Cena are both pretty ardous affairs, and the only highlight of the Vince bout is seeing his head get cracked open, as blood sprays the ring. The main event is pretty good but not brillant either, which I think sums the whole event up. Shame about the lack of extras too.
big disepointment.......2005-02-02
this ppv was a big disepointment the whole thing was very predicteble even the main event big show vs kurt angle vs brock lesner was very dull and predicteble i sugest you stay away from this one
WWE Vengeance 2003.......2004-03-14
The first all Smackdown pay-per-view event, Vengeance, is considered by many to be the second best card of 2003, behind only Wrestlemania XIX. After the previous month's pay-per-view, RAW Bad Blood, didn't meet the expectations of many fans, Vengeance absolutely blew everyone away with a collection of five-star matches. On the DVD, there are actually no extras, usually there are a couple of bonus interviews and promos, however, Smackdown markets itself as a no-nonsense programme, with a reliance on almost purely match quality, and considering the quality of the matches at this event, Smackdown is a thriving brand. A real gem for any pure wrestling fan. The matches were as follows;
The opening match saw Chris Benoit and Eddie Guererro compete in the final of the tournament to decide the new United States Champion. Once WCW's secondary belt, likened very much to the Intercontinental title, the U.S. title was re-activated to serve as Smackdown's secondary belt. Many think that this match should have been placed higher on the card, being such an important match, and being of such amazing quality. This was a great effort from both participants, and gave excellent prestige to the U.S. title, fantastic.
Next up was Billy Gunn vs Jamie Noble, in an indecent proposal match, the stipulation being, that if Noble won, he got to sleep with Gunn's valet Torrie Wilson on Smackdown. Rather a strange storyline, this match had an extremely hard act to follow. However, both competitors do work hard to make this match entertaining, and it is.
Then came the APA Invitational Bar Room Brawl, not really a match, more of a fight. This was an excellent chance to show some under-carders on pay-per-view, but does have a rather predictable ending. Serving only seemingly as an opportunity for an interval, there are a couple of stiff stunts in this brawl.
John Cena is up next to take on the Undertaker, in a good match. Cena's pre-match promos are of an exceptional standard, and the Undertaker worked so hard in this match, it looked as if his contract was up for renewal. He really sold Cena's moves, and helped along Cena's push amazingly.
Next up was Stephanie McMahon against Sable in a mildly entertaining match,
Quickly followed by the contest for the WWE Tag Team Championships, Haas & Benjamin facing Billy Kidman and Rey Misterio. This match was truly spectacular. Real time was given for two of the best cruiserweights to ever step inside a ring to showcase some of their talent on pay-per-view, and it certainly worked well.
The brutal affair of Zach Gowen against Vince McMahon was up next, and time for Vince to further advance his evil persona. Despite having one leg, Gowen is capable of working an entertaining short match, and displays his talents here. A great effort.
And then we come to the main event, the Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship, the Big Show vs Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar. A returning Kurt Angle (now babyface) and Brock Lesnar create a good build-up, giving an extra competitive edge to this match, and a fantastic match it is. A main event worthy of topping a tremendous card.
Great matches make this card a classic. WWE Vengeance is pure brilliance, and is certainly a must see for any wrestling fan. An excellent event.
