it is so great to see julia roberts play a total bitch instead of the pathetic ditzy romantic comedy type female that she has done oh too much of....the best thing about law and order is the complex powerful female characters...thoroughly enjoyed this DVD...please bring out more L&O on zone 2 dvd.

Superlative.......2001-11-29

Second film by Takeshi Kitano. Not for everybody, but this is one of my favourites, next to "violent Cop". This is a surreal tragi-comic film, in a way that I've never experienced before. The characters seem resigned to the fact that they're done for - but this is also an absolutely hillarious film. If you don't get this type of humour then you'll miss out on a big element of what Kitano's about. Maybe its a select humour though, quite dark. And check out the bizzare ending!!? His best film after "Violent Cop".

CLOSER TO REAL CINEMA THAN 99.9% OF ALL FILMS.......2000-08-07

This film may not be as accessible to watch as some of kitano's others, but it is still more inventive, profound and humorous than most and is more rewarding with subsequent viewings. By no means is it Kitano's personal best but it does come close and for me, that is enough.

Watch out for the lollypop scene, that's what friends are for.

Pails in comparison to previous Kitano films.......2000-07-11

I have to say boiling point was a bit of a dissapointment for me. The story seems week, with a brief change of scenery in Okinawa a welcome break from the winding tail about a young mans life and his encounters with Yakuza. If you like yakuza films, i suggest you check out Violent Cop or Sonatine first. For diehard Kitano fans only.

I watched every episode of this show and loved every minute. There are not many shows that take the risks this did. I would love to watch it again but sadly it is not available on region 2 for the UK. I don't want to start getting into multi-region players so please release this in old blighty!

Excellent and underrated show - well ahead of its time.......2007-03-19

Profit was ill-timed. Released today it would surely be a huge hit - people are more used to subversion, corporate machiavellian tactics and even the term 'white collar psychopath' is more widely accepted. Back in the nineties people were shocked and turned off - leading to the cancellation of this great show. Adrian Pasdars Jim Profit is very, very much like Patrick Bateman (American Psycho). Even more so than Christian Bales rendition. What really makes this show involving and interesting is the excellent use of dynamics - the characters weaknesses, strengths, intentions, motives, fears and histories are all used and played with like toys against one another. To me this is what makes for great viewing - not endless shoot-outs and explosions. The end of every episode is so interesting - Profit sums up his deceitful games and then climbs into a cardbox box in the middle of his luxury apartment to sleep.

Profit is another one of those dark series that american tv loves to create but then doesnt know what to make of. Mostly because it raises the citical question; "What kind of person do you end up if you are raised by the tv set?" If the answer is Jim Profit(as played by Adrian Pasdan, best known for the film Near Dark), a very scary one. Crawling up the corporate ladder one very greasy rung at a time Profit is willing to cheat blackmail and destroy anyone who gets in his way. And if you think that he's evil you should meet his mother. Dark,disturbing and very funny, this is one of those programmes that got cancelled so suddenly that you will never get the chance to find out just how far the witers would have dared to take such an amoral character. Highly enjoyable but you may wish to ban your kids from ever being allowed a tv set again
