5 out of 5 stars A Window to Society Or a Great Comedy?.......2007-12-22

I love this television show but sometimes I watch it and think "my god people really are like this and live like this". Other times, more often than not, I watch it and think "what a great piece of writing and acting". To think of it as a window to society only complements the programmes writers and actors, which is what I certainly do.
I don`t think I`m a snob but in real life this is a trap I would not like to fall into.
Great series that has a beginning, a middle and end. The last show breaks your heart but be prepared to have your heart broken again when you watch the deleted scenes.

5 out of 5 stars Happy Tears.......2007-12-10

I had waited until Christmas day to watch this. To say l am a fan of the Royle family, is an understatement, l quite simply adore all the cast who appear. Being lucky enough to have met Ricky twice, and he was a Gentleman.
I wanted to savour the show and what a day to do it. Anyway the show.....
We all cried at Doris Day's Ka sar'a,and her passing and we all laughed at a surprise appearance of Twiggy (Geoffrey Hughes),and the dance laying the laminate, Nana's hair extensions, and her posh nails. One of my favourite bits was Jim dancing in the hall with Norma. Could it have been better? NO WAY, l would go as far as to say it was TV History in the making.
Anyone who has lived in Wythenshawe in a council house will understand where all this comes from.
If l had to find a fault (and l cant really) it would be that Caroline Aherne wore a tad to much make up, as she is beautiful enough, l know thats her character, so it isnt a fault..
There are so many funny bits in it, l could write all day. If you have seen one episode of the Royle family and liked it, you will love this.
Its one of the 10 things l would take on a desert island, can l say more?
Well, done Craig, Phil AND OF COURSE CAROLINE,

3 out of 5 stars Very Good My Arse .......2007-07-26

This was the worse series ive ever seen after watching it on the televison. I was Very disappointed, Pulled an all nighter watching the Series and then spent the day after some sleep, watching the Queen Of Sheba, and was throughly disappointed. Apart from great acting from Ralf Little, and Liz Smith and Sue Johnston, the Queen of Sheba was pure crap. Craig Cash's son can not act and is very disappointing, Craig Cash is also very disappointing a case of like Father like Son. Caroline Aherne is annoying and Ricky Tomlinson just reverts back to the old Jim. The supporting cast is also disapointting and although this was a second hand copy bought form Amazon i was soooo disappointed. Jessica Stevenson has done better work than this "crap", e.g Joan in Doctor Who. All in all i found the extras much better, especially the Interviews and of course it still leaves some questions unanswered, such as what happened to Emma and Anthony and where the hell did they get that Massive Television???

5 out of 5 stars Piece of class!.......2007-01-27

Excellent series - don't do as Amazon recommends and buy it with the Queen of Sheba, as this is IN this edition, so you'd only end up with it twice. We watched this over Christmas, and by New Year felt like honorary members of the Royle family! It's feelgood (because we all know someone like Jim, even though we might not say it to the person in question!), homely (to have so much go on around a TV is just amazing - and the only time we feel as if we're missing out is when we miss out on seeing Denise's wedding...) - and just a pure piece of comedy genius. The only downside, if I had to find any, was that the only DVD bonus features come with the Queen of Sheba programme, they're hilarious, but I would have ADORED to have seen some of the other out-takes from the other three series.

5 out of 5 stars Not a review........................2007-01-12

as "scousescona" has summed it up perfectly, but has anyone else noticed that the Second Season Christmas Special has a minute of footage missing at the beginning? What happened to the scene with Noel Edmonds on the box and Nana snoozing on the sofa?! My copy starts with Barbara in the kitchen, so I hope it's not faulty.

3 out of 5 stars crapper is right.......2006-07-02

Awfull, blooming awfull thats all i can say about this film. But there in lies it charm.Any fans of really bad horror must buy this film.Basically 2 films (one about a monster from outta space killing strippers and 3 vampire call girls eating their clients, one who is Hurely from tv series Lost!)edited together with the usual troma inserts and filmed scenes.

The film does not gell at all its obvious where one film starts and ends and its obvious where troma have tried to hide the seams. But this is the fun of it all.Julie strain stars in both parts and is quite fun to watch in a b movie way and its very very funny just for all the wrong reasons!

Another reason to buy it is the awesome making of documenatry explaining why it was made, the problems occured while shooting inserts and Llyod bascially saying how bad he let it get. This in its self is worth buying it for.

3 out of 5 stars See it and laugh yourself into a stomach cramp.......2008-02-06

"Good Luck Chuck" is one of those movies where you don't really know whether to admit that laughed your way to stomach cramps through the entire film or that the movie was a bit over the top.

"Good Luck Chuck" is about Chuck/Charlie, who is a dentist (why doesn't my dentist look like that?) and quite the good luck charm. After a woman's been with Charlie, the next man she dates will be a keeper. And of course the hexed Charlie falls in love. Okay, so far it sounds like a chick flick that will make every guy yawn, but first of all Jessica Alba plays the love interest/penguin-obsessed catastrophe waiting to happen and the comedy.... "Good Luck Chuck" is full of one-liners, physical comedy, slap stick, and at times so bad humour that you will jump out of your seat doing the secret you-got-it-dance.

Enjoy!!

Louise

PS. I am sure that this movie could even make penguin-fetish more acceptable to the general public.

4 out of 5 stars A quirky and thowaway yet strangely good film.......2007-12-26

This is a good Rom Com masquerading as a very bad one. It's very crude, often goes for cheap laughs and has alot of sloppy dialogue yet it has more heart, philosophy and wit in it than at first meets the eye. That is part of its charm. At first one thinks, this film is awful. It has a throwaway, flippant quality to it that is almost like a porn film. If you stick with it, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised. It's sort of like Knocked Up or the 40 year old Virgin in that respect, but it's made by a different team.

5 out of 5 stars Good Luck Chuck(les).......2007-11-15

While I was waiting to enter the Cinema, the previous showing was ending and people leaving looked completely bored. They must have had a sense of humour as stiff as wood. This film is non stop laughs from beginning to end (and that includes the credits!!). Jessica Alba plays the role as the ditsy accident prone blonde to perfection.

A tip...

The laughs come so quick and often you'll be choking on each piece of popcorn!!!
