Where's Frank.......2006-08-04
Chris Rock is one of the best comedians the world has ever seen. Even though this DVD seems like a censored version compared to his solo-stand-ups, where he swears a lot more, this special is just great. With the exception of the Overacting Negroes Sketch there's no filler on this DVD, every sketch hits its mark.
However, I could see the american version before and I can tell you that for some reason the UK Version has been altered. The order of the sketches has been changed which shouldn't bother anyone, but there's one sketch, that seems to be missing.
It's the one called The Sinatra Group, which in my opinion was the best sketch in the US Version even though you couldn't really call it a typical Chris Rock Sketch. It is a shame that they cut it. The fact that the sketch didn't focus on Chris Rock might have been the reason, but then again, "not gettin' any" isn't Chris Rock focused either, and that one made it.
Still, this DVD is worth every penny and even without Frankie it can't be anything less than five stars.

I think you have to be a fan of Saturday Night Live to enjoy this kind of humour.
Personally I loved this DVD, highlights being Operaman, Zagats, Canteen Boy and The Gap Girls. Sandler also get to show off his talent on the guitar and at singing with skits like the Hanukkah song. Plus great guest appearances by other SNL alumni like David Spade, Chris Farley and Rob Scheider and an appearance by Alec Baldwin.

If you're a fan of Adam Sandler then NEVER watch this DVD. My view that the Americans have a good sense of humour has gone straight out the window. Not once, in this 1hr 10min compilation of the "best of" did I laugh. It doesn't even deserve the one star I gave it.

Funny, but not better than the original VHS version.......2005-01-26
Having seen the original version of this on VHS, I eagerly awaited it's delivery. After watching it I was horrified to discover that it was not the same as the original at all. Although some of the sketches are, the new one's on the DVD are by no way better than the ones that have been missed off. No James Brown sings Annie!!! Very disappointing if you have seen the VHS version, otherwise a good collection of early Eddie Murphy stuff. Why they didn't just port the original over I don't know.

Some of the sketches are really funny, some of them (every other one it seems) just aren't. This isn't the best of Will Ferrell at all, if you like his extreme randomness then maybe this is for you, but if you are buying it on the basis of his genius performances in films such as Old School, you'll be quite disappointed.

I started downloading some of Will Ferrell's saturday night live sketches and when I found out there was a 'best of' on dvd I went straight out and bought it. Overall it's pretty good but some of the sketches seem to be a let down as some of the ones I downloaded were so much funnier. So that was a little disappointing.
The sketches included are quite funny, but I found the extras on the dvd hilarious. If your a fan of Will Ferrell then it's definatly worth getting, if you just like comedy however, it may not be everyone's first choice.
If Only they would bring out a dvd of every Will Ferrell sketch ever on the show! that would definatly get 5 stars.
Hilarious, Well worth the Money........2005-04-11
I watched this dvd at a friends and i havent stopped talking about it since, this man is a pure comic genius, he can even rival peter kay or bill hicks. The sketches on this dvd show him at his hilarious best. Whos that Spartan in my teapee, its me, its me....

The Best of Mike Myers is a compilation of sketches from his six seasons on the American show Saturday Night Live, and features the star in his pre-Austin Powers days appearing in various garbs and characters, though not as Powers himself. There are, however, two Wayne's World segments, Myers' other great cinematic triumph (in collaboration with Dana Carvey), in which he plays the zonked-out heavy-metal dude who presents a cable show from his basement. One features Aerosmith guesting, waylaid by Wayne's mum and given the tour of the house, or "walk of shame"; the other has Madonna, in a parody of her In Bed With... era.
Other characters include Sprockets, a stern and Teutonic techno-obsessed host, and Lothar of the Hill People, an ancient chieftain. Considering he is Liverpool-born, Myers is happy to peddle some curious American stereotypes of the British: that they have bad teeth, as in the "Hedley & Wyche" sketch ("one tube lasts a lifetime") or that they all behave like characters from a Terry-Thomas movie. Among the featured guests in these sketches are Steve Martin, Tom Hanks (as Aerosmith's roadie), Nicole Kidman as a six-year-old girl, Roseanne Barr and Danny DeVito. Sometimes, as is SNL's wont, the sketches go on several minutes too long and lack sharpness, while the star guests don't always put in Oscar-winning performances. However, amid the self-indulgence there are a number of very funny moments.

This best of version DVD has a great collection of his best characters! You'll see his original Wayne's World sketch (with guest stars Aerosmith and Madonna) and his ever popular character Linda Richman- where he plays the New York Jewish Mother talk show host (a portrayal of his REAL mother-in-law!!). Two Thumbs Up!!!.......2005-09-28
If you are a fan of Chris Farley's work this DVD is a definite must have! It is a tribute to him and contains Farley's best work in the American show 'Saturday Night Live'. Farley whose life came to a tragic end in '98 will always be remembered by his fans as one of the greatest, if not THE greatest talent since John Candy and will live on in the minds and hearts of all those who loved his work. This DVD contains hilarious sketches such as "Matt Foley, the man who lives in a trailer down by the river", Chris doing some "Dirty Dancing" with Patrick Swayze and many more of the characters he created. We'll all miss him, but thanks to this DVD he will not be forgotten.
