The weakest series of Moonlighting.......2007-08-16
Firstly, if you're from the UK or Europe, you will need a DVD player that can play region 1 DVD's.
The four-episode story arc in the previous series of Moonlighting paved the way for things to come. Series (or season) 4 starts with one of the worst-ever episodes of Moonlighting. A Trip To The Moon indeed! This episode is painful. The script is terrible, and you can sense that the writers had no idea what to do with the characters now they had finally "done it".
A major problem was Cybill Shepherd's real-life pregnancy (later written into the story). Her character had to be written out, which had Maddie de-camp to her parents' house in Chicago. The reason? Because she couldn't deal with her relationship with David Addison. What was her problem? It is David that gets all the viewer sympathy as he is left to mope in LA with Maddie's detective agency to run. Maddie does appear in most episodes, but as her scenes were filmed early on (prior to Cybill Shepherd's maternity leave) there is little interaction with David.
The rather annoying character of Herbert Viola takes over Maddie's role in solving cases with David, though some episodes have no cases to solve as the show becomes more and more like a soap opera. Moonlighting could rarely be described in this series as a romantic comedy/ spoof detective show. Not much detecting, no comedy and little romance.
David again finds himself wrongly put in prison, something that had previously happened in the third season. Yawn!
When Maddie does eventually return to LA towards the end of the series, she has done something so out of character that the credibility of the series starts to come into question.
Bruce Willis is faultless throughout and really carries this series, even though he had his heart set on a career in movies by this point (the first Die Hard film was released in the same year). Cybill Shepherd is also brilliant in the scenes she appears in, but the show appeared to be badly in need of some new writers. A real-life pregnancy to deal with was not an adequate excuse.
For fans only, if you have the first three series/seasons, this is worth getting. However, if you are only going to get one series/season, it certainly shouldn't be this one.
miss this season.......2007-08-05
With pain in my heart i can't give to this season more then three stars. This season really don't goes in line with previous three ones.
I was so exited when i bought it, but then came disappointment. The fact that Mady is pregnant and apart from David - and they stay away from each other almost all season. Mady lives with her parents and thinks all the time about life.
David wanna get to her but by mistake he placed in jail where he spends minimum 1 from 3 dvd's of season. I really couldn't watch that moments and went to next chapter where was at least some bright moments of season, but there was not much of then (unfortunately).
Seems last 5th season is better then this one and i definitely will buy it for collection.

Good, innit.......2003-07-15
The team just get stronger by each episode. The second series highlights the structure and confidence of their humour and characters. Occasionally, a joke gets worked to death but overall an excellent DVD.

Genius! ALF is back on DVD. Christmas Episode appears to be uncut! Strange!.......2006-05-01
This series hasn't dated (apart from the clothing) The central concept is still very appealing. The idea of an alien crash landing through a family's house and becoming part of the family is still a great idea. This collection features all 26 episodes from season two (1987) and every episode is hillarious. The Christmas special is a two part episode; which is why this set has 26 episodes and not 25 as stated. the DVD menus are excellent with all new Alf footage. Alf will also tell you abit about each episode if you want him too. There is two bonus episodes from the ALF cartoon series. Overall this is a very good collection. It loses a star because these are the sydicated episodes and not the full uncut versions. strangely though the Christmas two parter doesn't appear to have been edited; it runs longer by about 5 mins. The picture is also a little sharper on this episode. Did Lions Gate take this episode from the original negatives and not the sydicated ones? I don't think the Christmas episode will have been placed into sydication. If this is the case then how come this episode is better quality? I thought the original negatives were too bad to take copies from? Hm... If they can take the Christmas special from the original negatives (IE: Uncut) then why can't they take the rest of the series from them? I don't think they'll ever release this series in the UK or again (uncut) so you should buy this set from Amazon and savour the old Alfer once again. The picture quality is very good and the sound has been remastered into Dolby 2.0. Now, all we need is for them to release Alf's hit talk show on DVD and we'll be laughin' Ha ha! I kill me! No problem...
