Enjoyable Old School flick.......2007-09-10
Eddie Murphys directorial debut, 'Harlem Nights' was always going to draw criticism (Its Vulgar, Predictable etc), such is his polarizing effect on Cinema goers, but ignore the below review, this movie has its merits.
The style and feel of the film is perfectly evocative of the thirties, and although the plot is rather derivative, its pulled together by a great supporting cast including Redd Foxx, Charlie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. The one major flaw is that Richard Pryor is miscast as the straight guy to Eddies hot headed youngster, but on the other hand it shows he could play more subtle roles if needed. If you're a fan of Eddies movies before he started doing those lame family flicks in the mid nineties then this is easily recomended.
"What? The good-guys loses? NOTTT !.......2007-04-23
Every time the movie tries to "fool" you into believing the good-guys are going to lose, you know those scenes: "What? The good-guys loses? Oh.. I see, it was just a trick", it's done so terribly bad, you can spot it a mile away.
It had 2 or 3 funny moments, but not enough to save the day.
It's a little silly that these comments has to be 5 lines now. A lot of people will fill it up with crap, for it to be eligible. Being brief is an art.
