Always shining.......2007-05-11
First let me say, this film should be given more than five stars, its brillant, its about two old guys who used to be comedy partners on stage, but george burns said I think we should end the partnership as we are getting old, but walter matthau wants to continue, so they fall out and go their separate ways, walter matthaus nephew tries to get him jobs, advertising products, at the start of the movie he has to advertise a packet of crisps, which is very funny, but he doesn't get, then his nephew hears that a network is putting on t.v, some of the old acts that only appeared on stage, so he has to try to get the two guys to work together, get ready to laugh through the entire film, he goes to his uncle who says no way, and then he goes to george burns and george burns agrees, but only because he will put the money towards his retirement, of course they have to rehearse one of their old sketches, so george burns goes to walter mattaus apartment, and here's one of the best and fun sketches I have ever seen, walter mattau puts a cup of tea down on the table for george, and you know they still care about their friendship when walter says he was sorry to hear about george's wife dying, then they talk about what sketch they will do. This takes a while, and they discuss why they ended the partnership, with walter saying that he's still got it, walter says I will be the doctor in the sketch and you the patient, so george says ok knock knock, walter replies, well go outside and knock, george says we're only rehearsing, can't you believe, and walter says, sure if you were a better actor, they argue with each other and then walter picks up a knife and chases george around the room, then the phone rings and george picks it up and walter says out loud who is it, who is it, and george says behave your self, and he talks to the person on the phone who is his daughter, and says he's mad, he chased me around the room with a kitchen knife, it was still dirty from earlier, so then walter speaks to her and says no there's no argueing just stupidity, and so they agree to continue rehersing, and so george goes outside and knocks, the door gets stuck, and after george gets back in, walter says enter, to which george replies enter, what happened to come in, walter says I'm changing what we said, I'm trying to freshen up the act, George says, you want to freshen up something, get some flowers for this apartment, George says say come in or i'm leaving, walter says just say knock knock, George says are you going to say come in, my clothes are beginning to stink from this apartment, Walter replies just say knock knock, so George says knock knock, to which Walter says enter, george calls him an idiot and leaves his apartment and you see walter following him along the corridor saying enter, and george calling him names, and the part where they go to the studio and they have been put in the same dressing room because no one knows of their feud, and they both get ready and walter does everything to try to anoy george is brillant, and when they reherse at the studio, also brillant, if you are not sure about buying this film see if you can rent it, as its one of the best films ever, and it shows up all the silly modern american comedy films that have come out over the last few years, if you don't laugh at this, well, I don't know what you will laugh at.
simply the funniest movie I have ever seen.......2006-10-24
I have been an entertainer all my life working with the greats of British comedy. The Sunshine Boys represents the best that the comic world can offer. Two legends of the theatre at their very best performing at a level that cannot even be approached by their so called comic peers. Mattheau and Burns are sadly missed but gave me and millions side splitting moments in a sometimes confused and disappointing world. I have never laughed so much at a movie or even a live performance as much as I did whilst watching this classic film.
Region 2 version perhaps?.......2005-07-23
This is a brilliant film when I get to see it on television as I do not own a DVD player that can play Region 1 dvd's. Any chance a Region 2 version could be released?
a classic.......2003-10-03
a superb film.an all time classic, george burns an walter matthau are so convincing as a ageing double act you'd think the had really been together 50 years.any one with elderly relatives will relate to the humour and ways off the original odd couple .this film is a must for any comedy buff.this film will make you laugh everytime you see it....
Amazon.co.uk Review
Astoundingly silly but incredibly popular, Police Academy is the first film in a seemingly endless franchise that takes aim at the men in blue. After a police academy drops all of its entrance requirements, all manner of misfits flood in, hoping to make it onto the force. One of these misfits, a lazy, aimless cadet played by Steve Guttenberg (Cocoon, Three Men and a Baby), was forced to enlist and tries whatever he can to get kicked out. But once he decides to stay, he tries anything and everything to finish his training, even as his drill instructor tries to shove him out. Featuring a wild bunch of strange supporting characters, from a female trainee who speaks below a whisper to a dominatrix instructor to a human sound-effects machine, Police Academy is mindless but fun. --Robert Lane, Amazon.com

[2.5]--"Make the money, don't let it make you.", .......2007-06-25
When this movie first came out I thought it was a good flick but when I recently watched it again I wonder why. First-time director Ice Cube makes some pretty bad decisions in this movie, mainly in that his movie is dreadfully dull. You may wonder how a low-rent black version of "Showgirls" could be dull, but then you've yet to see "The Players Club." Personally this movie could have been made over twenty years ago starring Pam Grier. It's like that. Apparently, it's perfectly OK to perpetuate and even celebrate cuttingly negative stereotypes, but only if you belong to the minority you're exploiting.
In here we have Good girl Diana, played by Lisa Raye, who just wants to make enough money to finish college and do right by her baby. So she starts stripping at some sleazy dive. Much to her surprise, not everyone who works (or hangs out) at a strip club is very nice. The slimy owner of the club is played by Bernie Mac, whose back then performance is notable solely and not that funny because during that time Bernie's been great in small roles in his previous films. (Think of him in Friday or as Uncle Vester in House Party 3.) Bernie gets a subplot all to himself! He's a cheap and corrupt individual, so the local mob boss wants him dead.
For some reason, 2 Live Crew shows up at one point, acting like a band that's had a hit record in the past ten years. They must have stopped by to pick up a cup of ice and was invited to be in the movie. To be even a little fair, Jamie Foxx is pretty likeable as the club's DJ, and he gets to work some stand-up type material into his scenes.
The Players Club is a slow-moving and completely unoriginal movie. While some entertainment value could still be gained from a movie like that, no such luck here. You'll know every single plot point before it arrives, and when it gets there it's delivered in a bored fashion.
poor plot but nice women.......2001-12-13
this film is not one of the greatest of all times.
it is not even one of ice cube's better films however it is slightly redeemed by one of the most brutal and bloody female fights recorded on film. lisa raye is gorgeous in the film but she deserved a much more substantial story to get her teeth into

Humour For All.......2007-06-04
Totally Hilarious, Russell Peters combines a fantastic blend of cultural/historical facts about all people over the world and the funny silimarities we all share. Should be viewed by all young and all, black, white, red or what ever your hair colour is, its for all the family.
Original comedian taps more potential than ever before.......2007-03-07
Having seen Russell Peters' first DVD, this is clearly a marked improvement. Most of his bigoted opinions have been superseded by intelligent observations using social caricatures, making this the original view-point stand-up comedy set that the previous DVD should have been throughout.
He seems to have read-up a little on Britain and India's 400 year history. Hopefully, he's had a few Indian writers point out to him that his Christian ancestors would probably have been killed off had it not been for the British occupation. Such aspects of social history are seldom uniformly good or bad.
In any case, he's traveled the world now, and it shows.
The only real down point in his performance (to my mind) was the encore, where he blurted out his now trademark piece on modern parenting. If he'd spend another two minutes backstage sitting and drinking some water he may not have ruined it.
